Nowhere to go? Florida is like 99% sand - it never fully compacts, and therefore drains better than most places. Compare it to what happens to Houston with 14" in a day, getting a comparable level of rain based flooding in FL probably requires double that.

Florida is surrounded on 3 sides by tropical or semitropical oceans. This is why they get hit so often by major hurricanes. Other states have only 1 side that faces the ocean.

Well,hope all are safe,but at least it gave us a break in the Big Bend,where a large percentage of our population,has deep roots,and 3 in a year was plenty,that being said,pray all that were by the coast,and low lying areas and hope all the snow birds,and their descendents got out of all the trailer parkz and subdivisions,where there are houses 3ft apart got out of the way,,there are a bunch of old Florida family's in places like Punta Gorda, Acadia ,Wachulla and Place like St Cloud,but it's impossible to think stuff isnt gonna be a real cluster muck,with from every where south of crystal river,Clone houses full of Non Floridian born people in the last Forty years,!!!! It's really what happens when you don't have Grand parents,who can pass down from there Grand Parents what happened in the past!!! That's why it's so important to Live in the same Community that your Grand Parents ,Great Great Grand Parents put down roots,but just isn't the case in most of the State,but regardless mav God Bless all,even the bunch of folks with Yankee roots that reside in S South and Central Florida

The problem appears to be the resulting perhaps massive flooding in the most impacted regions like happened to hurricane Katrina in St Louis.
