Looks like a nice place with the grey skies and leaves changing. I myself don't like being in areas with people at all so I sympathize with you. Sucks about the book's but at least you salvaged it with some fan fiction. Never heard of somebody bringing bear spray with them when they're reading. If I were a bear I don't think I'd mess with you. Stay warm and safe.
It's such a beautiful location! A few years ago I would have whole spots to myself, and now not so much. It's ok though, nature is meant to be shared! I swear I won't forget my books next time haha! I hike solo a lot and this is a black bear region so I always have bear spray with me just in case. I had intended to hike that day but it got too cold too fast haha.

Hahaha I did. The books were right next to my backpack, and I just didn't pick them up when I grabbed my backpack 🤷♀🤣
