Back in 2000-2006 I was a member of VAR (Virginia Airsoft Rangers) and we allied ourselves with GMR. Those guys were more hardcore MILSIM than us. When VAR broke down, I joined another team called ECHO, being that a lot of former VAR members already knew the GMR guys, we seamlessly allied our selves with GMR again. GMR was about as close to a professional airsoft MILSIM team that you could get. They had our backs as much as we had theirs. Sometimes, with VAR/ECHO we could only muster a few guys on short notice to attend an away game, say in Massachusetts, and the GMR guys would absorb us into their squads. I miss those guys, glad to see them being mentioned here.
Thank you for remembering how treated you. In over 20 years, hundreds of people trained and worked with us, we always gave time and energy to those genuinely looking to advance and strive for the common goal. We are still as dedicated as ever, constantly training and attending worthwhile events. I have another 20 years left in me easy. Thank you! Ronin
Thank you Mr Jeff for answering these questions and also for sharing some of the most awesome and useful Information about the Fighting Rifle/Carbine and Pistol shooting.
When it came between me (infantry) and anybody else (like SF) we were told to never copy what we weren't taught by them specifically because we weren't 'cool guys'. It was just to keep us as simple as possible.
Fighting in the grape fields of kandahar felt very vietnam like. Sometimes we would get within yards of one another and still never see rach other during firefights. It felt almost as if whatever side made more noise and dumped more ordinance won. Very rarely did it end in a decisive victory.
I was with 1-7 at Bragg in one of their line units as their CBRN rep. I got the impression that many of the higher ups tried way to hard to be all Hooah Hooah because the 82nd and being next to 3rd group. I understand we need to be able to defend ourselves but our job was to protect high value assets not hunt terrorists. Hell I deployed twice with that unit and I remember infantry guys from 10th Mt. protected our PAT site and they were much better equipped than us.
@ was in 1-7 and 3-4 as commo and 100%. I think around 2018 we got a CSM from SHORAD and the guy was all hooah hooah and wanted to be the most hardcore almost infantry PATRIOT BN in the army. I get that yes they are basic soldier skills, but how good are those infantry skills going to apply for the ADA mission. Sucks that a lot of the Field grades came from SHORAD or other combat arms and have no experience in PATRIOT.
@ We had a few guys like that. I think bragg as a whole is like that because OH 82nd Is there and 3rd group WE GOT TO BE ON THEIR LEVEL BRO!!! I think many of the Higher ranking people did that so they can boast to their friends about how bad ass their units are.
2:31 - thank you Jeff. 2014 really showed me Afghanistan was screwed once we leave. We did missions with the SOK guys, we had ANSF with our team out in Kohesafi, they didnt give a shit. I knew Afghanistan was gonna fall to the ground hard the second we pulled out.
i wonder whats your opinion on why SOCOM adopted the MRGG rifle in 6.5mm almost inspite of the 6.8 ngsw? it seems odd to me that they adopted a short "ar10 sized" rifle with a fairly similar capability cartridge
For an assault rifle cartridge the 6MAX is better than 6ARC . IMO 6ARC really isnt assault rifle cartridge but I guess it could be . 6ARC was designed as DMR Type Cartridge for Lighter weight option to M110 / M110A1 . 6MAX was 100% designed as Assault rifle cartridge. It can be also used as DMR as well . I believe with 55g 6MAX out 10.5" barrel it running at 3100+ FPS . I think the 75g 6MAX is where it really shines when paired with 12.5 or 14.5 barrel . Its getting 2800+ FPS out of compact platform . 6MAX also uses 30 round mags. I guess you could make 6ARC be more designed for Assault rifle cartridge if you drop down in grain weight of projectile. 6ARC shines with 106g TAP out of 16" or 18" barrel . I freaking love my 12.5 6ARC but I'd for sure take 12.5 6MAX over 6ARC in select fire platform . SOLGW did pretty good video on 6MAX with barrel velocity compared to 556 shooting the same grain weight bullet . I'm not Mil nor am I LE . I'm just dude who is geek when it comes to small arms . Awesome video bro
On the subject of the NGSW, I've heard that troops are having problems with POA shift, likely caused by poor barrel lockup very similar to the problems the SPEAR-LT, as well as toxic fumes exposure.
Hey Jeff have you seen the FN .277 LICC concept "intermediate carbine" type rifle displayed I think at ShotShow last year?... Basically a 6.5 grendel (6mm ARC) sized cartridge, but with an appropriately sized bolt and extension/trunion to handle higher 5.56 type pressures in those rounds that are pushing the AR-15 magwell/bolt constraints to their limits. Very interesting rifle, even with a 3 lug bolt?! Although apparently now with the popularity of 6.5Grendel, 6mm ARC, and .338 ARC magpul is making dedicated enlarged polymer magazines for a few manufacturers planning on producing slightly larger dedicated lowers with appropriate magazine wells and possibly uppers using enhanced barrel extensions/bolts for the larger cartride base diameter... This magazine/lower development was "confirmed" at ShotShow this year, very similar in concept and building off lessons learned from the Magpul/LWRCI Six-8 collaboration from years ago... I think either of these (most likely the latter because everything on the FN including the cartridge and magazine are proprietary, and SCAR heavy magazines alone were a hassle everyone still hates 🙄) are the only actually viable 5.56 carbine "enhanced replacements" I personally believe have a chance of much success... I bet these cartridges would have already become more widely adopted if they had consistently reliable feeding 25rd+ magazines and stronger than commercially available bolts/barrel extensions. (I've been wishing for this exact solution for nearly a decade of poor magazine reliability of over 15rds in AR-15 platforms) Very interested to see if these new solutions take off within the US military, since the XM-7/M-5 is nothing better than an overpriced DMR/beltfed cartridge/system, already plauged with problems in the best possible light 🤦♂️ If you do decide to try a 6 ARC in the future it may be well worth waiting several months to see if this dedicated Magpul magazine/multiple company lower reciever design actually takes off. I have high hopes because .338 ARC supposedly competes with 8.6 blk out AR-10/7.62x51 sized rifles with a 5.56 stanag OAL using the the same cartridge geometry as 6.5grendel/6mm ARC (just without the absurd fast twist)... About 1.5 times the subsonic energy of .300BLK without risk of chambering/detonating in a 6.5G/6 ARC barrel, which may also pick up contracts for that very nice market (just a barrel swap from the former intermediate cartridges, supposedly reliable without an adjustable gas system/ other modifications or additional backpressure from a suppressor) Of all places Serbia apparently adopted 6.5 grendel for specific military/police use in AK style platforms as the bolt face diameter/taper being somewhat based of the 7.62x39 round makes production of high durability rifles and reliable magazines MUCH easier... I'm definitely curious to see how things go, and wish the FNH .264 LICC carbine would've been allowed in the NGSW trials! It wouldn't have passed the kind of ridiculous lvl 4 "penetration requirement" but I guarantee it would've won in every other possible category! Personally I think the DOD was a bit embarrassed to test a cartridge available for over a decade, adopted by Serbia, so 6mm ARC HAD to be made to fulfill certain "new caliber" requirements as the performance from 6.5 grendel really isn't extreme, and in some ways 6 ARC is less impressive 😉 These "modern" cartridges including the .264 LICC aren't quite as large as the 1951 British .280 load for their FN FAL NATO design, but we've almost come full circle back to what would've been a jumping off point for great intermediate cartridges years ago 😆 Sorry for the rambling, really appreciate the Q&As though! Thanks again Jeff! 👍

Hey, Jeff, have you been following SOCOM's Mid-Range Gas Gun (MRGG) trials? They want a new large-frame rifle (AR-10/SR-25) chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor that comes in 2 variants -- the MRGG-S (Sniper variant) with a 20" barrel and the MRGG-A (Assaulter variant) with a 14.5" barrel. Geissele has already won the contract for the MRGG-S and the winner for the MRGG-A contract has been narrowed down to 2 finalists, Geissele and LMT. The MRGG-A variant seems interesting in that SOCOM might be intending for it to be a general-purpose rifle in a potential near-peer conflict. Do you think the MRGG has a chance for widespread adoption within SOCOM units? Or will it be just another DMR type rifle?
@@ModernTacticalShooting Hello Jeff! The MRGG has just been awarded to LMT. ....with their 14.5 inch 6.5 Creedmoor variant.......it looks GORGEOUS....and seems to perform FLAWLESSLY. 6ARC is still to come as well....hopefully
You said that there were never enough pistols to go around in SF. Were you able to use personal sidearms to fill in the gaps, and if so, were there any restrictions on what it could or couldn’t be?
@ruthlessreviews1283 plenty of pistols for team guys, except for the G19s during the transition from M9 to glocks. Its the support guys short of pistols. No personal pistols.
Not sure why I can not talk to anyone about my design that I have drawn out and am trying to get a patent on. That has the laser, has full trigger reset, and recoil, which is the one thing that all of these training systems are lacking. And all you have to change is the carrier group. Good for mantis getting trigger reset down, but... Haven't watched this video yet. Yea. Airsoft works, but it's still lacking. Different rifle. It's not your system. Love ya man. Be safe.
I'm in the 101st right now but my part of the division hasn't gotten the XM7 or XM250 yet. A more modern new rifle with a suppressor is an exciting prospect and the XM157 optic shows some promise, but weighed against everything wrong with this thing, here's hoping they wise up and switch to 6 ARC; or better yet, just give us URGIs or bring back the Mk12.
As army prior service and civilian now, if I were in your shoes I would want a URGI for sure if I’m an 11B. MLOK , 1-2MOA accuracy, easy to grip, upgraded gas block, decent barrel profile , you can absolutely run it for 20k rounds with the DD barrel , and i hear the ones the army gets now come with an SSAE trigger on that colt lower , its just got everything you need and nothing you don’t . I don’t mind the recoil of the XM7 and love the damage the round can do, but the ammo capacity and recoil for most people is just a no go .
@ModernTacticalShooting one idea I'd like to float by you is that the point of the M7 and 6.8 is to get adopted. That's it. Getting adopted means near-peers for the US now either choose between giving up on body armor or severely encumbering their soldiers with something that can stop 6.8. If they start issuing armor that can stop 5.56 then it's easier to roll out the M7. If they don't issue armor, 5.56 lives on. It's 3D chess instead of picking the best rifle.

@ronsmith9251 77gr MK262. Lined up not exact but with the elevation changes in Afghanistan. No ammo is ever going to match any BDC exactly. Gotta shoot and learn holds
@johnj8840 it's got adjustable gas, super fun to shoot against ARs in matches because when other competitors see me, they think I'm shooting some clunky AK, not a fined tuned 5.56 with muzzle brake zero recoil rifle
Good video. Shame about the Potato Digger, but not all soldiers are gun guys. Btw, my hero was a Nam vet called Pops Johnson in 1/508. He had a stuffed rabbit he'd talk to.
Why 6arc over 6.5 grendel? 6.5 grendel is more available in the European theater, is there logistical reasons or performance reasons to choose ine over the other?
Thanks for finally saying what we all knew about the afghan fighters. It was a crime that we tried to force our political system on them. They simply werent capable of maintaining it.
The question pertaining to kinetic warfare with a modern neer-peer adversary (like Russia or China) .....is a VERY UNCOMFORTABLE question for honest Americans to answer...this question is uncomfortable because the TRUTH is we are not near to Russia's technology....AT ALL. If an American company or battalion were dropped into Ukraine right now...they would be VAPORIZED. there is NO Air Superiority....we would NOT have Air Superiority.....because America does NOT have SUPERSONIC MISSILES. We as Americans could attempt to send ANY amount of ATACMS or anything else forward in advance of AirForce etc......but we would be COMPLETELY DISABLED with one or two ""Oreshnik"" Supersonic missiles... there CANNOT be conventional kinetic warfare with Russia.....we must face this hard truth as Americans. Please stop watching or listening to ANY mainstream media....they are lying to you....Ukrainians are dying at the rate of tens of thousands per day sometimes....all for a LIE. AN ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY OF A LIE.
I know drones serve a valid purpose and when you’re losing, you do whatever you have to. That said, I find sitting in your building killing people miles away is cowardly. Maybe I’m just an old fart, but that’s my feeling. I know they’re here to stay, so there’s that.

@vgt i have not been tracking it. Would be cool addition but don't see it being issued in huge numbers, maybe like Scar heavy, 2 per ODA
@@ModernTacticalShooting Hello Jeff! The MRGG has just been awarded to LMT. ....with their 14.5 inch 6.5 Creedmoor variant.......it looks GORGEOUS....and seems to perform FLAWLESSLY. 6ARC is still to come as well....hopefully
@@QuitYoJibby-JabbinFoolwhere are you seeing this? I don't think it's been decided yet
@@Merk21 Yeah, it hasn't been decided yet. That guy probably saw M110 SASS Actual's video on the LMT and got a little too excited😂
I think 6MAX looks very promising.
What Unit and when were you in Bosnia? Operation Joint Endeavor?
@sambarnes9520 we might have still been 3/325 or 1/508 at that point. I was second plane in behind 10th SFG at Tula airfield.
That's a sick skateboard. You skate/used to skate?
@pewpewbbqs skate? Nope but it does look great.

6 arc is the dirtiest round I’ve ever ran in a DI system by a LOT, this will be an issue that has to be addressed before it gets widely adopted

Do you personally use suppressors? I never see you using them in your videos
@@Varrylickers no I'm too cheap
Watch check?

@ModernTacticalShooting one idea I'd like to float by you is that the point of the M7 and 6.8 is to get adopted. That's it.
Getting adopted means near-peers for the US now either choose between giving up on body armor or severely encumbering their soldiers with something that can stop 6.8. If they start issuing armor that can stop 5.56 then it's easier to roll out the M7. If they don't issue armor, 5.56 lives on. It's 3D chess instead of picking the best rifle.

What is the reason you choose a m90 over a Ar?
@johnj8840 it's got adjustable gas, super fun to shoot against ARs in matches because when other competitors see me, they think I'm shooting some clunky AK, not a fined tuned 5.56 with muzzle brake zero recoil rifle
@ModernTacticalShooting Thank you for the response. Your insight is much appreciated.
Good video. Shame about the Potato Digger, but not all soldiers are gun guys. Btw, my hero was a Nam vet called Pops Johnson in 1/508. He had a stuffed rabbit he'd talk to.
