The Jeff Porcaro shuffle in Rosanna is actually the “Purdie shuffle” created by the legendary Bernard Purdie. I actually had the honor of getting to spend a day with Mr. Purdie and a few other great drummers several years ago in Rochester, NY. Super nice, knowledgeable and incredibly talented man.
Yes it is heavily influenced by the Purdie shuffle but it's actually 3 drum parts fused together. 1) Purdie Shuffle 2) Fool in the Rain 3) No Diddley kick part So cool you got to hang out with with Purdie!
Bonham Rock and Roll, Van Halen Hot For The Teacher , Dream Theater 6' o Clock, GNR You Could Be Mine, Twisted Sister We're Not Gonna Take and the list goes in and on.
My all time drum intro is by drummer Michael Bland on Prince and The NPG's song, "SHHH" from the album The Gold Experience. Go find it IMMEDIATELY and listen to that powerful intro. To me its the GOAT.
The Cure has several really recognizable drum intros. I'll mention two, both by Boris Williams: from The Head on the Door (1985), Inbetween Days; from Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me (1987), Just Like Heaven. Also to my mind comes Style Council's Internationalists, from their album My Favorite Shop, by Steve White.
John Bonham´s intro in Led Zeppelin´s "Rock´n´Roll" is my opinion, one of the best of all times. Also Ian Paice´s intro in Deep Purple´s Fireball is amazing.
Matt Sorums intro to "you could be mine" of guns n roses is one of my all time drum intros. Weather recorded in studio or played live the tempo he plays and still keeping in time is bad azz.
Some of my favorites are Phil Collins : In the Air Tonight, and I Don't Care Anymore ; Detroit Rock City by Kiss; Tom Sawyer by Rush; Take the Money and Run by Steve Miller Band; Wipe Out by The Surfers; Hot For Teacher by Van Halen; Honky Tonk Woman by Rolling Stones and We're An American Band by Grand Funk Railroad.
Honor Thy Father is a fantastic one. Not sure if it really counts, but one of the most recognizable drum beats is Enter Sandman (the tom build up, after the hi hat and prior to the beat). It's not technically a drum intro but i think it would still fit.
Manu Katche - Bad Mans Song by Tears For Fears. Also the very underrated Pete Thomas with his fantastic drum intro to Elvis Costellos ‘ I Don’t Want To Go To Chelsea’
One song I’d add to this list is the intro to Rock And Roll by John Bonham, which was kind of inspired and similar to the intro to Keep A Knocking by Little Richard
Love this Video 😊 Would add Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies, Van Halen - Hot for Teacher, Judas Priest - Painkiller and Iron Maiden - Where Eagles dare 🤘🏻 I'd love to see a video on Nicko McBrains (Iron Maiden) Drum sound. And as far as I know, actually Steve Tyler came up with the intro to Walk this way.
talking about drum intro. can we talk about songs that has drum loop intro which is an electronic drum loop in songs on the intro section? For example: Shadow of the day and what I've done by Linkin Park. Those drum loops on 2 songs are playing throughout the whole song.
I beg of you to listen to the intro of Sorry by Sleep Talk. That intro is probably my #1 favorite intro of all time currently. The ghosts notes followed by the choked hi-hat and then the fill just sounds so good.
I think if you asked every drummer their top 10 intros you'd get a very diverse range and you couldn't argue any of them. I mean how do do pick just 10.
"Dirty Movies", Everybody Wants Some!!, Jamie's Cryin by Alex Van Halen. When The Levee Breaks by John Bonham. Ticks & Leeches by Danny Carey No Excuses by Sean Kinney of Alice In Chains.
The intro to Rosanna, the ghosted notes are much more sparse to start and then becomes more busy as he goes. That is the genius of his Shuffle. Listen closely
Owner of a lonely heart, rock ‘n’ roll, hold the line, ballroom blitz, Sunday Bloody Sunday, the wizard, superstition, Dr Feelgood, Sober, No excuses, Gone away 👍🏼
We're not gonna take it, Twisted Sister. I love it loud, Kiss. Radar Love, Golden Earring. Come on feel the noize, Quiet Riot. Mony Mony, Billy Idol. You can tell I was a fan of Headbangers Ball=LOL
Some of mine: Clyde Stubblefield, I've Got Money - James Brown John McEntire, Diagonals - Stereolab Sly Dunbar, Ruby Lee - Joe Cocker Ralph Humphrey, 50/50 - Frank Zappa
@@HACKERSInc yeah. But someone did a mashup 20 songs in one beat features Michael Jackson's drummer on a video. The under pressure and Ice ice baby part got me.
@@ArtOfDrumming I played in a band called Glucose in and around the time the boys in Billy Talent were starting near Streetsville Ontario.....they won't remember us but I remember them.....lol...
I would add in Van Halen - Hot for Teacher and U2 - Bullet the Blue Sky.
Thanks for the suggestion! Definitely collecting for part II of this video.
@@ArtOfDrumming both of these along with Ticks & Leeches by Tool
Also "Dirty Movies" and Everybody Wants Some!! by Alex Van Halen.
👍🏻
@@kevinwilkins3248 dang you are right! I forgot about those two songs. ;-)
Great job guys on the secret drum into hidden at the beginning 😅😂 Use me as the “Found it” button
🤟😁
👀 I was wondering why no one was saying anything about it. Definitely the most played intro in the video lol

How could you forget to include the most recognizable drum intro of all time: HornPub 🥁
It’s not mentioned but like 0:13 ?
He definitely played it. Cheeky Easter egg
My Hero from The Colour and the Shape is pretty memorable however I believe it is two parts played simultaneously.
My personal favorite drum intro off all times is the intro of Stargazer, from Rainbow. Absolutely legendary
You're right. Cozy Powell never did that intro again when they played the song in the tours but it's an awesome intro.
Bonham Rock and Roll, Van Halen Hot For The Teacher , Dream Theater 6' o Clock, GNR You Could Be Mine, Twisted Sister We're Not Gonna Take and the list goes in and on.
Can't forget one of the most iconic drum intros of all time. Ringo Starr on "Come Together" with the reverse drum rolls across the kit several times.
i love that queen is on here all son accurate
two princes by spin doctor, excellent drum intro
My all time drum intro is by drummer Michael Bland on Prince and The NPG's song, "SHHH" from the album The Gold Experience. Go find it IMMEDIATELY and listen to that powerful intro. To me its the GOAT.
Great one for sure!
Sunday bloody Sunday/ every little thing she does is Magic for part 2
The Sweater Song by Weezer is another example of a simple, instantly recognizable drum intro!
🤟
That's the first one I always thing of. You can sing it.
How does everyone always forget "I want you to wane me' on these lists? probably one of the best drum intros ever.
"Stargazer" by Cozy Powell from Rainbow is also worth to mention.
scentless apprentice by nirvana! idk if i wrote that right but ok
Where the River Goes by STP
Very cool examples😀👍👍👍

Riding on the Wind by Judas Priest
Instant excitement and just awesome drumming.
Yesssss so good to see some more modern stuff be represented! Ausgezeichnet
Over the Mountain. Ozzy. Might be the best rock intro ever
Dani California
Was the go to beat of every drummer since 1970 when warming up or trying someone else's drum kit...lol
John Bonham´s intro in Led Zeppelin´s "Rock´n´Roll" is my opinion, one of the best of all times. Also Ian Paice´s intro in Deep Purple´s Fireball is amazing.
Steve Miller Band- Take the Money and Run!
You guys always have the best drum sound in your videos
Add: "Stargazer" by Rainbow = Cozy Powell - Trust Me - pure Fire !!! oNe LovE from NYC
Wow, you're old like me. Good calls!
Forgot about Whipe out, you're right that's soo great 🙌🏻
Love that you added Dani California my fav song
Here are some intros:
-The spirit of radio
-Smell like teen spirit
-First date

-Never gonna give you up
Thanks for sharing
Sing sing is so good
💯👌
Love all these, I would add in Where eagles dare, Nicko absolutely crushes it
Has to be in any top 10
Life is a highway
I heard that sneaky ph groove in the intro 😂
☺️
The Offspring - Gone Away, super memorable drum intro imo.
Honor Thy Father is a fantastic one.
Not sure if it really counts, but one of the most recognizable drum beats is Enter Sandman (the tom build up, after the hi hat and prior to the beat). It's not technically a drum intro but i think it would still fit.
Nice list, though I would like to add ( a bit harder intros)
Iron Maiden - Where Eagles Dare
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Deep Purple - Pictures of home
Stevie wonder’s superstition is a great example, simple, yet sooooo groovy
That floor tom sounds A-MA-ZING-!
Yes, we love the combo with 16“ Sonor + Remo Coated Emperor.
@@ArtOfDrumming Works so well! Of course, your ability to tune must also be acknowledged. 🏆
Thanks 😊 but this combo makes it easy for us
@@ArtOfDrumming No argument here 😃
Feier ich, dass ihr Billy Talent drin habt :)
I think the most recognizable for me would be are we the waiting by green day. Huge sound and is perfect for the vibe of the song.
My favorite is "Middle of The Road" by The Pretenders.
One of my favorite drum intros, "Ballroom Blitz" by "The Sweet"
Scentless apprentice from Nirvana is a great drum intro
Me, I'm liking that simple Snare intro of Redbone's Come and Get Your Love... Also Two Princess(Spin Doctors)...
Manu Katche - Bad Mans Song by Tears For Fears. Also the very underrated Pete Thomas with his fantastic drum intro to Elvis Costellos ‘ I Don’t Want To Go To Chelsea’
I'm surprised that Sugar, We're Goin Down by Fall Out Boy isn't on the list. The drum intro is forever ingrained into the back of my mind.
there are a lot of tutorials about it, but : Rock'n'Roll by Led Zeppelin is also on my legends list......
Great suggestion 👍🏻 watch out, Bonham will be part of our recreation series soon
@@ArtOfDrumming Very much looking forward to that! Excellent video!
@@ArtOfDrumming hell yes!
"Walk This Way' is my Number One.
One song I’d add to this list is the intro to Rock And Roll by John Bonham, which was kind of inspired and similar to the intro to Keep A Knocking by Little Richard
Not a U2 fan, but Sunday Bloody Sunday is unique.
Bullet the blue sky...
I Love it Loud by KISS featuring the late, great Eric Carr and Painkiller by Judas Priest should be there :)
for me, my favorite drum intro ever is give it away by rhcp😏
I don’t like to criticize or make negative comments, but Rossana and
50 ways are not correct.
Love this Video 😊 Would add Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies, Van Halen - Hot for Teacher, Judas Priest - Painkiller and Iron Maiden - Where Eagles dare 🤘🏻
I'd love to see a video on Nicko McBrains (Iron Maiden) Drum sound.

Painkiller ,Were not gonna take it ..Strutter and we need more cow bell on this list Mississippi Queen !!

Shadow of the day and what I've done by Linkin Park. Those drum loops on 2 songs are playing throughout the whole song.
My absolute favorite: "Where Eagles Dare" (Iron Maiden)
Short intro but so unique: "Spirits In The Material World" by The Police
Saturday night by EWF, Freddie White(Drummer) the youngest brother of the late great Maurice White. Simple intro but Funky as Hell!!
Good list here! I would add:
Prince - Take Me With You
Mastodon - Iron Tusk
Thanks 🙏 - nice suggestions!
Mama weer all crazee now, Quiet Riot, Sunday Bloody Sunday, U2
I beg of you to listen to the intro of Sorry by Sleep Talk. That intro is probably my #1 favorite intro of all time currently. The ghosts notes followed by the choked hi-hat and then the fill just sounds so good.
Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of the all time Classics
Nice selection, another one I could think of is "86" by Green Day
In 50 ways it's the left hand playing the hi hat...At least...That's what Steve does.. 😎
STARGAZER !
Stargazer - rainbow
Take the money and run - steve miller band
Where eagles dare - iron maiden
I think if you asked every drummer their top 10 intros you'd get a very diverse range and you couldn't argue any of them. I mean how do do pick just 10.
A very underrated and never mentioned drum into would be Over the Hills and Far Away originally by Gary Moore
Because that was a drum machine. Gary Moore didn't want use a real drummer in the Wild Frontier album.
@@MarioTorres-vm5dr Well ok then. Fun fact I didn't know.
Check out "Squib Cakes" by Tower of Power as played by the great David Garibaldi.
Surprised there was no Down With The Sickness
"Dirty Movies", Everybody Wants Some!!, Jamie's Cryin by Alex Van Halen.
When The Levee Breaks by John Bonham.
Ticks & Leeches by Danny Carey
No Excuses by Sean Kinney of Alice In Chains.
Mine has to be Ticks & Lechees...Danny smacks those drum so HARD!
When The Levee Breaks?
Literally most iconic intro and drum sound in all of rock
David Garibaldi: Squib Cakes!
J’ai Claqué La Porte from Chromeo uses an electronic interpretation of the groove from 50 Ways to Leave your Lover as an homage to the original
Rainbow - Stargazer, Dream Theater - Honor Thy Father, Led Zeppelin - When the Levee Breaks, Rush - YYZ and many many more
5:44 If you watch Steve Gadd play it, he's actually playing the hi-hat open-handed, i.e. with his left hand.
the One I miss the most is U2's "Sunday, bloody Sunday"
The intro to Rosanna, the ghosted notes are much more sparse to start and then becomes more busy as he goes. That is the genius of his Shuffle. Listen closely
Deftones, Around the Fur
Brilliant intro, I love playing it on drums
Haha hell yes. Love those quick kicks
Playing just the drums part of Umbrella sounds almost exactly like "Take the Money and Run" from the Steve Miller Band.
Awesome video! If you're planning a part two may I suggest Emerald by Thin Lizzy and Radar Love by Golden Earring.
Owner of a lonely heart, rock ‘n’ roll, hold the line, ballroom blitz, Sunday Bloody Sunday, the wizard, superstition, Dr Feelgood, Sober, No excuses, Gone away 👍🏼
'Ballroom Blitz' by The Sweet (Mick Tucker)
LTBD, Teenbeat (Nelson), Quite A Party (Fireballs), Diamonds (Harris & Meehan),Topsy (Cozy Cole)
I could tell by your kit where eagles dare wasn’t going to be on the list 😂

Also Rock of Ages, Def Leppard
Radar Love❤❤❤
How can you not include "Take The Money And Run" by The Steve Miller Band? Gary Mallaber's awesome Intro is an all time classic.
Some of mine:
Clyde Stubblefield, I've Got Money - James Brown
John McEntire, Diagonals - Stereolab
Sly Dunbar, Ruby Lee - Joe Cocker
Ralph Humphrey, 50/50 - Frank Zappa
nice
This was your chance to start the video with never gonna give you up
I would add “Billie Jean” by Micheal Jackson, I mean why isn’t it on the list it’s so famous hahaha
totally, I would recognize Billy Jean one bar in. the list reads like a personal favorites, not most famous. OMG where's Rock n Roll by Zeppelin?
The beat from Billie Jean also used on other songs (Another one bites to dust) and other ones.
@@Rusli1659LPSoldier Yeah true
@@Rusli1659LPSoldier It's just a basic beat any beginner can play you know
@@HACKERSInc yeah. But someone did a mashup 20 songs in one beat features Michael Jackson's drummer on a video. The under pressure and Ice ice baby part got me.

0:14 Thats the best one for shure
Territory (Sepultura)
Painkiller (Judas Priest)
Rain Dance Maggie- RHCP (cowbell groove)
