    Walking around these walls
I thought by now they'd fall
But You have never failed me yet
    Waiting for change to come…
Do It Again" is a song by the American rock band the Beach Boys that was released as single on July 8, 1968.[2][3] It was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love as a self-conscious callback to the group's earlier surf image, which they had not embraced since 1964. Love and Wilson also share the lead vocal on the song.🎸🥁🎷🎶❤️

The Beach Boys with Brian Wlson at the helm were musically way ahead of anybody in the 60s. It was only when Brian became ill and a recluse (losing his falsetto and mind) that sadly they lost there way. Having said that the other band members kept the music alive even now in there 50th year! LEGENDS!

    Suntanned bodies and
    Waves of sunshine the
    California girls and a
    Beautiful coastline
    Warmed up weather
    Let's get together and
    Do it again
With a girl the lonely sea looks good
Makes your night times warm and out of sight
    Been so long
(Hey now hey now hey now hey now hey now)
(Hey now hey now hey now hey now hey now)
    Well I've been thinking 'bout
All the places we've surfed and danced and
All the faces we've missed so let's get
Back together and do it again..........
See why Mike Love was so important to
The Beach Boys, what a cool voice.
Mike didn't need to learn a instrument, he
was born with a great singing voice!

Are you sure that Brian is on this?
I'm sure he was not performing live at this time (with his mental health issues)
I did see Bruce Johnson on this playing bass (Brian's normal instrument in the day)
Dennis on sticks with Alan and Carl on guitars
Are you sure you are not confusing Carl and Brian?

Do It Again" is a self-conscious callback to the band's earlier surf-based material. The lyrics to the song, originally entitled "Rendezvous", were inspired after a day Mike Love had spent at the beach in which he had gone surfing with an old friend named Bill Jackson. Mike then showed the lyrics to his cousin Brian Wilson, who proceeded to write the music to Mike's lyrics of nostalgia. Brian has stated in the past that he believes the song was the best collaboration that he and Mike ever worked on. In 2013, Love noted, "I came back from a surfing trip with some high school buddies and said: 'Hey Brian, I just went to the beach and the waves and the girls were great. We've got to do a song called "Do It Again".' He remembers it being at my house. I remember it as being at his house. He starts pounding at the piano, I was summoning up the words and we got a chorus together, which was basically a bunch of doo-wop inspired harmonies. We created that whole song in fifteen minutes."

Great great song! Nice video. thanks for sharing this. The harmonies are so layered on this it creates an aura or maybe the Beach Boys were trying to express an aura on a place and time and do it very very well. There is a time for solemn reflection and a time to just have fun and dance with life. Leave it to the Beach Boys. And hey a group that takes a picture with a beagle gotta be something special (no bias there hehe).

  • @narmer44

Another great one. BTW, the Beach Boys sort of own me; well, not really owe me, but I helped them make it big. Their record label distributed copies of their first or second album to radio stations throughout the country through a network of marketers I was in. They sent me two copies of the album, one to keep and one for the radio station in my college town. They had little holes punched in the corner so it couldn't be sold retail, which was fine with me.

First heard this as a kid on Portobello beach, Edinburgh 1968. Was thrilled by this well-crafted pop record which gave them their second UK No 1. I always wondered what that deep instrument is that fades in so subtly at around 0:33. More than 40 years later, have never tired of this song or any of the music by this outstanding band. Their music makes me feel so good.

This is my favorite Beach Boys song. I remember hearing it for the first time back in the 80s on an obscure late night TV music retrospective. I had never heard the song before, but it struck a chord with me [if you'll pardon the pun] and I instantly liked it.

    • @daveyest
      @daveyest 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Jennifur Sun listened very closely to an instrument only track. That deep instrument sound ( at 0:33) is two bass saxes. One playing sustained notes, the other playing in rhythm. Very simple but so effective. The Beach Boys records stood out from their contemporaries as they always did something a bit different.

That amazing intro streaming from the radio every night and day will always be one of my sweetest memories from the summer of 1968. Just because it didn't fit the narrative of Brian's withdrawl and decline, the critics have never accepted this as the classic it is, right up there at the level of God Only Knowes, Good Vibrations, Surfs Up and California Girls.

They were multi-talented. Do it again was one of the last great recordings from them in the late sixties. It went straight to the top of the British charts!

@mhantholz "held great promise...," yikes, do you have any comprehension how brilliant the coordination of riffs, lyrics, and melody is in this song? You name me one band that could begin playing at dawn and provide exceptional music until dusk. And I haven't even started about the three-part miracle, "Surf's Up."

@ambersstar1 I think he's referring to how the Beach Boys became a cheesy nostalgia band, featuring John Stamos, in the absence of Brian. Obviously, they were one of the greatest bands of all time during their 1965-1971 experimental period. From 1971 on though, not so much...
