The Senna set is a great tribute to an incredible driver. Already pre-ordered it.
I just remember the race which he was lapped down because of a first lap incident then how he managed through the field to finish first by 15 seconds lead, like yesterday. I don't remember which one was it but surely you will find if you google it as Senna 15
I was excited, until I saw the way too skinny rear tires. Need to find a solution for that before I get this one,
It looks okay, but the wind shield is ugly and not to mention the tires...
@@LegoGBlok I want it just for the Senna minifig so the build doesnt bother me. It's good for what Lego can do without making tons of new parts
@@Sonderax That is the part of it though and i wouldn't mind owning that myself. As a kid, Ayrton Senna was one of my heroes, it was a big thing for me his death, i watched that race live from tv..
so excited for the MP4/4
Probably have to get the McLaren MP4 and the Speed Champions McLaren F1 as well. The polybag looks great for its size too. I heard about a rumored F1 Aston Martin set as well, can't wait for that in the second part of the year.
So, Lego created three new types of tires for three different sets with f1 bolides, all of which are less desirable for f1 fans because of rear tires, instead of making less sets with better tires setup. Good work, lego! BTW all lego technic motorcycles are getting different front and rear tires, somehow.
It's not like creating some new wider tyre moulds would have limited use as pretty much every sports and racing car has wider rear tyres. Just looking at my own Lego collection there are so many cars whose looks would have benefited from having wider rear tyres.
racing brick is a very under rated youtuber i enjoy watching the big and interesting builds

Lego actually did already release two different sizes of the same model before, talking about the Claas Xerion, as it was available as a huge motorised set, but was also later released as a much smaller, but still awesome set!
Great coverage as always, but that ugly bulge on the big Mercedes and the horrendous prices did sadly surprise me.
Good catch with the Xerion!
There was also a 10€-sized Unimog around 2014. I really liked it because despite its tiny scale it had a working steering.
They also had a smaller cherry picker I believe around 2009-2010.
Yes they really need more f1 cars
Would be cool a double set for each team or even the polybag version instead of the full scale since they would be a lot of sets tbh..It would be so cool to have like a miniature scale F1 set for all like the McLaren It still looks pretty good for me
Racetrack for the polybag-sized formulas.
As a lego and F1 lover, I see this as an absolute win
So excited to pair the Mercedes W14 with my technic McLaren F1
Same here, Add the Speed Champions Mclaren (I have the Speed Champions Mercedes Pack from last year)
rb19 would have been much better
Yeah,I don't want two F1 cars in my room 😂
It's gorgeous IMO
@@NLShArKNL nah w11 would have been much better.
The suspension in the rear is pullrod rather than pushrod, so at least there's that!
What's the difference between the two?
I love the look of McLaren Speed Champions set, but why didn’t they include the driver numbers like they did for the SC Mercedes F1 set?
as much as i hate to say it, that MP4/4 model looks genuinely terrible, it's not just the tyres but the everything from the sidepods to the the entire nose setup just fails to capture the square stockyness and straight lines of the actual car
The prototype was produced in 1988
I'm glad it's not just me. It looks horrendous which is a shame.
I think they mistakenly put MP4/4 on the box where it should have been MP4/8. It looks more like that car.
Try the Tamiya model of the MP4-4 friend, this set includes a LEGO Ayrton Senna, with his HELMET!
@@zonoskarit look nothing like the mp 4/8
I like the set, and I’m glad LEGO is doing more F1 stuff. I will definitely design and 3D print wider tires for it as soon as I get it though.
I really like that there are so many options for LEGO open-wheel race cars. I'm not even a Mercedes fan and I like the look of those cars.
Speed Champions the best theme in Lego ever !
I'm afraid I have to give that to the discontinued racers line.
@@jkliao6486 That, and I'm also partial to Belleville and Fabuland.
Great video as always
Wooh! I’m super exited for the Mercedes F1s, and just can’t wait for your awesome detailed reviews!!😊😊
My nephew is a huge Formula 1 and AMG fan, and my brother is a huge "not paying 200+€ on a lego set" fan
The smaller amg is a godsend to both
Thanks Balazs for these great contents !
Looking forward to watching your video with the amazing Chris Stamp detailing all the speed champions released in March :)
Maybe what I said was easy to misunderstand, sorry. I'm working on doing a Speed Champions interview, but it certainly won't be with Chris Stamp unfortunately.
@@RacingBrick my mistake, it was perfectly clear in your vidéo. I misunderstood it !
Even the 1987 or about Model Team F1 car that was clearly based on a McLaren ever had wider rears. Yes 3 stacked but still. Maybe two fronts stacked in the rear can solve this very strange look.
I wish they produced the Senna version in Technic (Mercedes F1) condition. Senna is timeless, whereas F1 cars change every year.
Why they don't start a new franchise based on F1? Like they did with Star Wars or any other brand? It should be incredible to have not only the licensed cars, but also the pits with the mechs, and maybe even the recreation of some simpler circuits as Redbull ring and Monza.
Aw the Baby McLaren, so cute ❤
I wish the MP4/4 was better.
The nose is quite bad. And the rear tires are wrong. And I honestly think they should have made this a Speed Champions set. This year’s Speed Champions selection isn’t great.
Will it be available in physical stores or only on the website on March 1st?
Really looking forward to the MP4/4. If only they could do a black and gold Lotus to go with it
The MP4-4 is legendary winning 15 of 16 races, the JPS lotus was not an icon like the McLaren.
Maybe not an icon as the McLaren but definitely an icon for the sport
And it definitely looks awesome in that gold on black livery.
Black and gold never fails!
I might get my hands on the MP4/4, but as a French I wish there would be an Alain Prost version 🇫🇷
Someone will probably create a sticker set for this model with the Marlboro advertisements as well as a Prost sticker set
Some really nice sets!
Well there goes a few bucks this year on the lego car collection 😂
@ps2gaming001 I just go to my local store in Malaysia I don't like online but that's just my preference.
Some absolutely cracking looking sets. I cannot wait to add them to the collection. Speed champions in particular are great value for money. They’ve obviously gone to town now they’ve made them 8 stud wide
2:34 Would love to see WRC themed sets like this one for McRae, Burns, Sainz, Loeb and even some 80s drivers like Michelle M. Maybe a bit more difficult to replicate the cars compared to 'barely there' shapes of F1 cars. Minifigs would be so cool with each set!
aww, kinda sad you couldn't get an interview with Chris Stamp, i really do love those, but understandable. hopefully next time!
Why is it understandable?
because the man was probably busy@@idonjohnson6999
Great reviews like always
Definitely looking forward to both McLarens! should we expect the W14 technic to be in the same price range as the previous McLaren technic?
man, real MP4/4 looks so badass with these huge tires and MARLBORO across its spoiler...
It says Mclaren
There is no Marlboro
i said real one)
@fyo_music oh yeah, you did, my bad
welp I’m gonna be broke this year💀
I really like speed champions mclaren because it has more details than mercedes formula 1, and this fancy looking spoon rear mirrors are fantastic!
Need that big merc
Also Lego 42170 Kawasaki H2R gonna be great Technic set
Agreed
That looks sooooo coool.
Ooh i cant wait till racing brick releases his detailed build review!
With these new sets, is it possible that the next big technic car is a 720s or AMG One?
Ayrton Senna I think this is the first set ever with something related to Brazil. It's funny, growing all these years, we get so many sets like Architecture based in London, New York and Beijing, but never anything related to my home country. It's nice to finally have something a bit familiar to me.
I wish the smaller Technic set had HOG steering or even as alt model for the set with some additional parts. It's another good looking model that'll be tied to pull-back limitations.
In some pull backs (maybe in all) you can choose not to build the pull-back crap into it.
This year it will be 30 years since we lost Ayrton, so I think I will be buying the MP4/4. I like the big Mercedes, but think the smaller McLaren also looks pretty good 🙂
I’ve been watching the 88’ season on F1 tv recently and regarding the livery on the MP4, it does look similar to the one they had for the British and German Grand Prixs since they must’ve had some kind of international tobacco sponsorship ban for those ones. There was a barcode looking decal instead of the Marlboro and the rear wing was just blank, no McLaren branding like the model here. Regardless, I’m sure there will be custom stickers from third party vendors available to make it more authentic. Waiting on my pre-order to get filled now from Lego.
speed champions my beloved
They need to make more modern rally cars
I'd love to see a blue and gold Impreza
Could you compare the McLaren F1 car to the W12 Mercedes car in terms of size on your review?
I wish they would have gone with the w11 for the technic Mercedes
Definitely getting the MP4/4 for aryton senna and those awesome stickers, and im getting the mclaren speed champions too. The mercedes w14 id love to get being im a huge mercedes fan but id have to see about spending the 220 or hust settling for the smaller one for 27. Ive been waiting for that senna set since the second i heard it was really happening
the 2023 mclaren f1 is the best set in my opinion, i like f1 cars.
The speed champions mclaren looks absolutely incredible, even better than the bigger models. If I was an f1 fan I would buy that in a heartbeat
I was not expecting Lego and the shell company to do another collaboration, I'm a nerd for legacy Lego sets (heck I have all the legacy sets, el dorado fortress included), And if it's supposed to be a reference to Lego and shells past, I'm definitely gonna get it (I'm still gonna get it anyways bc it looks good)
also excited for the mp4 but i cant find the poly bag mclaren f1 anywhere
The Senna with working steering should have a HOG-Steering-Option. Maybe the big Benz will make the Game at the alternate Market for less than 200,- bugs.❤
So, same model different size is not a new thing Lego has done (as pointed out by another comment), but this is probably the first time different sizes are released at the same time. Lego might be doing some experimenting here I think
Dammit ! I work on a Honda Formula Project (MP4/4 and RA300) at a similar scale for several years now with Honda's blessing, and LEGO Decide to release a MP4/4 Set using the McLaren brand. Having old fomula one is quite rare so I am happy that LEGO release this to a tribute to the great Senna, but I don't like the mold-seam on the tire, no rubber and the same size for front and rear obvisouly. The nose is quite strange but this is a compormise at this scale I think (I also made compromise on my version). The white background of the stickers did not match the LEGO brick white which is unforgivable from a company like LEGO when particular can have a 99% match. As is often the case, enormous potential wasted by questionable choices. It will sell a lot for sure but it could have been so much better...
Hello Balazs , would you consider doing a review of the Redbull rb-19 from 'Rastar' ; it's 1;24 ,fully licenced ,printed tyres and the strangest sticker placement i've seen yet.
Spoiler alert Rastar will also release RB19 in 1:8 scale this year ;)
Would love to see some WRC (modern or older) cars as Technic sets. Even as Speed Champions would be really nice (I know we already got 2 rally cars)! But 27 euro's for a Speed Champion?! 😬😫
That small pull-back actually looks better what the bigger one... lol. Better proportioned model, the bigger one looks strange to my eyes, yes the slick tires are a cool addition but,.. it still doesn't look like the real deal, where as the smaller one.. kinda looks. what was that pull backs prize? and if that smaller one had slick tires too...
im so excited for the mercedes, mclaren ,mercedes ,sennas car im gonna get them all
I agree about the tires. Chinese brand CADA have a licensed Alfa Romeo F1 car that have the wider rear tires and it looks better than the LEGO McLaren. It's a shame that LEGO is unable to mold wider rear tires. It's a dealbreaker for me I'd rather get the CADA car.
Despite being a really bad race car and overall slowest car since the start of 2023 season, McLaren made some dramatic turnarounds mid-season since the Austrian Grand Prix, and became regular competitors for pole positions, podiums and even race wins.
Not using Marlboro logo is a shame 💀
If they did it, this set would be forbidden for sale in most countries of the world.
Is there anywhere we can find the full picture of every scale of the models that is shown at 1.40?
3:33 i am guessing the mclaren mcl60 is 8 studs wide and 20 suds long?
it is like sailing ship with towels instead of sails.
Its a dream come true for me
Finally, a new era f1 speed champion car the mclaren is finally revealed (still sad there is no wheel guards but those are hard)
DID LEGO FINALLY USE SLICK TIRES FOR THE MERC? (funny how it took em so long to add slick tires and when they did they didnt print on hard tire or soft or med)
As a new formula e fan, i like the mclaren model
FINALLY THEY ARE BACK
I still have my silver champion from like what, 24 years ago? omg...
I would buy them if they had like 50 stickers more. With only 15 stickers I will not get it. A sticker is such a great adult display set accessory for home decor.
i love the sarcastic take :)
do you get anything special for pre ordering legos? specifically the senna set?
The nose bulge on the big size W14 is such a let off omg
I know!!!! Its a disaster. It went from looking very forward to finally purchasing in March to not sure it will look good next to my huge collection of Lego F1 cars…
Even discouting the rear wheels debacle, The McLaren MP4/4 nose looks wrong to me: the real car had an almost perfectly straight wedge going down from the front of the cockpit to the tip of the nose and that was one of the defining feature of the aesthetic of the car. The Lego version has a sudden drop just after the front axle line that makes the car immediately to look like, if anything, the 1993 MP 4/8. I understand that probably they couldn’t have fitted the steering mechanism while retaining the correct nose shape, but I would have rather had no steering and a straight nose.
DAMN no fat rear wheels !!! gonna wait for custom ones to come out and only then get the model
The new McLaren F1 car looks so cool but the wheels look a bit small
(the mini one is so cutelol)
And I love the Ayton Senna tribute!
if I would buy the mclaren formula one speed lego speed champions, i would test every speed champions set and mocs I have to see if the slick tires are really faster than the original ones.
I'm super happy for the Speed Champions McLaren and the Icons one. Its just a shame with wheels. Are there any companies creating custom wheels for lego?
Maybe 3D printing them? 😢
5 F1 sets + F1 Neon
The Mercedes has pullrod suspension similar to the Peugeot on the rear
im getting the mclaren 2023 car and the rb18 ideas model if they approve it
Absolutely gonna get both Mclaren's! They're my favourite F1 team and the minifig scale Speed Champions set looks amazing despite all the stickers
I really look forward for the Senna car! I already got the huge mclaren 2022 f1 car, and the new offroad mclaren car, and I preordered the Formula E car and Senna car now! 😍😍
the mercedes 1:8 have pullrod on the rear !
That mercedes f1 w14 e performance that costs 220 dollars lego technic one looks so cool
McLaren from Speed Champions seems to have bad proportions on box, looks a bit like Indycar or Formula E car. But on promo photos it looks better. Still I think Rastar 92300 Alfa Romeo has better shape and details but it's also slightly bigger.
Thanks for a great preview. The large scale Mercedes is disappointing: The nose fairing looks ridiculous. The MP4/4 aesthetics are really affected by those skinny rear tyres. I anticipate 3D printed custom rear rims will appear soon and perhaps two tyres can be cut and welded together to form a wider single. The Speed Champions McLaren is the highlight
If Mercedes bigger and smaller version are the same time of cars, why the look so different? The small one looks weird to me. On the bigger one just the front as you mentioned.
The slicks for the smaller cars look very plastic- I really hope they're rubber
Maybe I´m in the minority here, but to me the 42169 Formula e car is the sweetspot in the new formula car linup. We get decent size and proportions, a mixed tire set (lack of slicks is a downside, but technically correct for Formula e), the interesting combination of pullback and hand-of-god steering and that for a fair pricepoint. Am I missing something?
We must protwct speed champions as all cost
I'm disappointed the Lego Technic Mercedes F1 car (42171) does not seem to have that many functions. But the rear suspension of the set might be interesting.
Hey, it already has more than the previous one! :)
The little mclaren speed champion f1 is cool and im ok with the same size wheels for this one. Slick tyres are sweet. For the technic merc f1, having 4 equal sized wheel is a big turn off however.
Since you mentioned the CaDa Alfa Romeo F1, I want to give my personal take:
The McLaren was a really bad set, wasn't either a good display piece nor a good playset. So, it is great to see that with the mercedes LEGO tried to address some issues of the previous F1 model.
They replicated the correct suspension geometry, with pull rod on the rear, I'm really curious to see how they made that. Plus they included (finally) slick tires. Yes, they uses the same measure on the front and rear, and have no printing, but I guess it is fine and those tires will be included in future sets (although I don't see which other sets they could do other than F1s). They also chose to hide the engine, and simply make so that the engine cover can be removed like in the Peugeot 9x8. They made bad paneling choices seemingly for the sake of including new molds.
The CaDa set however shows that other brands can offer LICENSED sets with new pieces, 4 printed tires of 2 different sizes and 2 different wheel hubs each different from each other due to the printing on them. Sure, it's more of a display piece and aims at a different (narrower) audience, but I'm truly impressed at how CaDa manages now to make LICENSED sets, with great details, and making them original (i.e. not simply stealing MOCs from rebrickable independent designers).
Again, different audiences, different products and different companies with different dynamics, but still I am happy to see that fans can see that good 3rd party brands exist and that LEGO sometimes isn't doing as much as they can with their sets.
It's interesting you addressed the build quality/experience with LEGO, by calling it a bad set, but forgot to mention it for the CaDA F1 build. That one has lots of advantages with the correct and specialized parts, but let's be honest, it has also a lot to improve from a building experience perspective. Instructions are challenging to follow, some connections are forced, and the end result has quite flimsy and fragile areas.
@@RacingBrick Szia Balazs. I have to disagree on that. At least on the licensed sets that CaDa made. The AMG One and the Alfa Romeo C42 are two of the sturdier models I got to build. On the contrary, the McLaren had poor rigidity, and a tendency to flex over the middle of the model.
It is definitely true that CaDa instructions are difficult to follow for an unexperienced builder, but that's (partly) addressed by having a different audience, but I agree on that point.
I agree that CaDa sets USED to have a lot of flimsy parts, in fact the "Lamborghini Centenario" from CaDa (or whatever that set was called being unlicensed) is one of the worst sets I've ever build, I admit it. Also the recent Viva Hypercar (Ferrari LaFerrari in disguise) isn't that great.
But let's be honest, the two (so far only) licensed sets, that weren't originally MOCs but are original designs specifically for CaDa, are great. Very sturdy and I believe some actions were taken to make instructions more easy to follow.
But to make my point, my complaint was mainly towards the McLaren F1 car and partly this new Mercedes F1, which seems better but still implements some weird choices. Maybe I'm too harsh because I'm both a lego and an F1 fan, but the McLaren was really a delusion to me. On the contrary the Peugeot 9x8 is one of the best technic cars of the last years, if not the best. It is packed with content, has barely any empty area, tries to replicate actual features of the original car prioritizing functionalities, but at the same time manages to be also good as a display piece.
I think we both agree about the LEGO McLaren F1 car, which had a poor concept, very simple execution with no sophisticated engineering and no special parts, but I talked enough about that in my review video when it was released.
Don't get me wrong, I like CaDA's approach, how they cleaned up their parts portfolio to acquire the Mercedes-AMG license, how they're innovating with parts like the printed slick tires, and I really hope they continue their journey with all these improvements. I just don't think they're "there" yet, mainly because of MOC-level instructions and design decisions. Even if we consider experienced AFOLs as their target audience, I find that the two licensed sets don't even come close to the aforementioned Peugeot 9x8. The Mercedes has interesting areas, but the cable management is a nightmare, and the motorized features don't really work in real life, I shared my experience on the other channel. As for the F1 set, besides the things I mentioned, if you touch any of the brick-built assemblies on the sides or on the top, they'll fall off instantly.
As I said, I really hope CaDA keeps getting better with their future sets, but (as with LEGO in many cases) there is still room for improvement, you cannot say any of these companies is clearly doing a better job than the other.
Compared to the Lukas design F1s in 1:8 the official sets are very disappointing style wise but I’ll still get it regardless
Thanks :)
Is that a new 1 x 3 curved slope with the 45º cut (in orange and black) that I see on 76919?
Yeah and what about that black sloped piece on top/end of side pod with that vents sticker? Or maybe that’s the same piece on another plane.
Theres also rumours for an aston martin f1 car and f1 safety car for the summer leak
I just hope the 1:8 Super car will be a mclaren p1.
Wish Lego would release Ferrari F1-75 or SF23 (especially in 2023 Monza livery). But anyway it's nice to see more f1 themed sets
I will be getting almost every set
