    Hopefully these tips will come in handy when I try to recreate some of the sounds from The Blessed Madonna - Happier (feat. Clementine Douglas); the wobbly riser in that song is so good! 😎

    Great content and just love the channel. Far and away favourite in the genre. But ... and there is always a but ... unlike other YT channels where you just consume and mind numbing just watch. I have now learnt that after one of these drop ... I need to wait until I can carve out at least few hours - watching is the easy bit - It's the firing up of the DAW and diving into that rabbit hole that sucks up the time. I am now 48 hours in and counting after the other awesome 'No 1 scientific reason you can't finnish tracks'. Sort of ironic that it was about actually finnishing tracks ... which then lead me to pull apart a few of my faves. Anyway, loving the inspiration that you give. It's all creativity.

    I am so happy I found your channel! It is a hidden gem among all the music channel noise. Big thanks to you! Bought you tea couple of weeks ago.
    You mentioned you usually have a separate sub-bass for control and processing. Is the amount of ducking or compression between the kick and the bass a ‘use your ears situation’ or are there best practices or reference levels on the ducking/compression amount?

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you're going for 'commercial loudness' then the sub vs kick relationship is key to that. Depends on the genre / groove but Typically you want as much reduction as possible. In the bass video i showed using a volume envelope plugin, which completely muted the sub in parts.

      @@BthelickSir B. I have a request for a future livestream if I may! The second song of KiNK moscow boiler room set has some really cool synth chords with a simple progression in it that seem to be modulated to give it a more colour and movement. This was great - feel like I'm learning as always with these videos - it's the details that matter. It'd be awseome if yo could make a track in the style of Maya Jane Coles, I've heard a few people try, but nobody really nails it. 👍

      @KevinArdala01 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea, I liked her older stuff too, 'Parallel Worlds', 'City Lights', or more experimental stuff like 'No Stick'. Her remix of Karin Park's 'Hurricane' has a very nice bass, or Wax Wings ft. Nimmo 'Reclaim'. Or even her Nocturnal Sunshine work such as 'Take Me There' or 'Can't Hide the Way I Feel'. Even her drums sound great...lol.

    You are the GOAT. Any chance you could do a tutorial for the final, heavily distorted drop in Aphex Twin - Windowlicker?

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could take a while. Distortion is the most transformative effect, it's extremely hard to reverse engineer, and hear what the original sound was before it was transformed. I'm not joking when I say you could probably get close to that sound with a single sine wave and the right distortion!. As a guitar player I can testify! Raw electric guitars have very dull, dynamic and almost sine wave output until you put them through and amp.
      Back then it was probably trash distortion by izotope or guitar pedals. It sounds like fuzz distortion. It's just a question a trying lots, or drawing shapes into a good wave shaper, until you find the same flavor.
      Having said all that, I think it's a Reece style bass on the record under that distortion as I can hear detune, and i can hear resonant filter sweeps making the distortion 'bark' occasionally.

    TH-cam is missing good tutorials on using different time signatures for different elements of your track. Like a 4/4 backbone but a 3/16th /bassline. Most youtube producers stay within the 4/4 box. And occasionally use polymeters on their hihats

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes well in terms of dancing to music it's extremely dependent on the type of audience (and drug use) for that to work.

    Can u do a video on the BBE 7days pluck, can’t make 1 I’m happy with. I’m using gadget so if u have anything Korg (M1-wavestation- poly6-monopoly-ms20 ect)can u try do a section on that too after you make it on vital. ( got it too lol) just mostly use my iPad. Prefer the gadgets more than menu diving in Ableton.

      The arp or the lead?
      I won't use gadget I make a point to use something everyone has access to.
      But also I don't really respect the difference between a saw wave on a korg, moog, serum or any synth as the principles are all the same in regards to sound design, so anything I do you will be able to follow on most synths.

  • @michaelsevilla7579
    @michaelsevilla7579 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m not sure if you’ve talked about it before, but can you make a video or a short even about ear fatigue. I feel like when working on a track for over an hour or 2 i get way to accustomed to that sound, and my initial idea gets lost while i add in sounds or rhythms that don’t fit.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I talk about this in my 3 simple steps video.
      th-cam.com/video/JdVP6RlTlnw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DSy2R8QG0a9rixnl
      Also something I haven't yet talked about but believe is important;
      If you have the luxury to treat your room properly, it becomes easier to judge speaker choice. Specifically because you can hear more without clutter, you stop falling for those over hyped top end type monitors that people confuse with "detailed" (looking at you genelec & Mackie).
      I can work on my Adams for 12 hours no problem, I swear by those ribbon tweeters.
      Also I work at a pretty low level. I've wore ear protection since my teens (even to loud pubs haha) so my ears are certainly more sensitive than most, but a well-treated room still means you can hear a lot more at lower levels.
      And whilst helping your hearing regards fatigue it helps your ear health long term too. Also working at lower levels has the benefit of making you mix in a way that forces you to make it sound exciting without it having to be cranked.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If I remember rightly the filter routing was more flexible in surge (vitals biggest limitation) but in terms of day-to-day sound creation I don't have any issues so I don't look for solutions if that makes sense.
      A synth has to really be doing something very different (from subtractive, wavetable etc) to get my attention these days. Like Synplant.
