- The plaintiffs, a husband and wife, sold a car to the defendant, the wife’s daughter. They say the defendant was supposed to pay off the car, but she only made two payments, so they’re suing. The defendant argues her mom gave her the car and she even gave the car back, so she doesn’t owe anything.

Those daughters were smiling during the tape because they know their mom is a drunk and she'll change her mind and emotions 50 times depending on which phase of drinking she is in.

That doesn't matter as a grown ass adults you need to take responsibility for YOUR actions that's like hitting someone on the road while drunk driving but blaming it on the amount of drinks THAT WAS YOUR CHOICE nobody forced the bottle or rant onto her

Sometimes all you can do is laugh to keep from crying because the whole thing was so messed up. The dress was a disaster and so was the slurred drunken message from her mother. Then the look of hopelessness to her man/meal ticket when things were brought to light. She’s hoping she still gets to keep a roof over her head since her own recorded message was their demise in court. Actually, serves them right. Sheesh

When Maureen and Ron were separated, I belive she gave the car to her daughter. After she got back with Ron, he was upset the car was given away and said to get 1000 dollars. That was a pretty damning recoring. It's so sad, that this was taken to court. They're the essence of "functional disfunction" . I can't imagine having a mother that drinks like that and they view it as normal. Oof.

Me as a mother would just pay the car off for my daughter. Its only $1,000. I can tell the husband is the bread winner and the mom doesn't work. So she has to go along with the foolishness of taking her daughter to court over something so trivial. Even though she seems to drink a lot I can tell she absolutely loves her daughters.

The plaintiff was so embarrassed when the messaged was played. I think she thought if she was drunk when she said that, the judge would let her off the hook, but it backfired on her. I knew b4 the message was even played that she gave her the car.

I think there was a deal to pay off the car but the mom is the type that talks sideways to her husband when drunk and went on a rant on the voicemail and the daughters used that as an opportunity. I think the judge saw it too and called it when they were smiling after playing the voicemail but she had to rule in their favor because the moms drunk ranting was so incriminating.

The parents are a mess, but they've been giving money to their daughter & either gave her a car or sold it to her dirt cheap.
Judge Judy would have considered the two payments the daughter made as proof that it was not a free gift.
Even if the daughter felt it should have been free, what's $1,000 for a car and family peace?
Nope. She refused to make any more payments once she got that recording, then gleefully played it for the world in court. (publicly shamed & embarrassed her mother so she could get out of paying $900.00 more for the car she ran into the ground so badly it had to be junked)

You are correct. You don't stop parenting your kids once they turn into adults. But you have no obligation, and you shouldn't take care of them. You are supposed to raise kids to be independent and self-sufficient adults. Help here and there is fine. Coddling and taking care of your grown child like they are kids is dumb.

I think qhen you said she gave it to her it wasn't she gave it as a gift but that she allowed her to drive it. That daughter knows but now when they need help, they won't get it...she should have paid him his money.
Sounds to me like the stepdad wanted his money and the mother was trying to help the daughter out by saying she gave it to her. Which she didn’t have a right to do bc the daughter was supposed to be making payments. The daughter knows this, I wouldn’t give her anything else honestly. The daughter cares nothing about the mom having peace in her home.

I will miss People's Court. Yes we can see these old cases but Judge Milian's new show is just not the same. It looks staged. And in a lot of cases it's reenactments of real cases using actors.. The mother is obviously an alcoholic. The husband probably enables her. Very sad.

Complete and total fake judgement. In real life that tape can not be used as an agreement because legally to enter an agreement both parties have to be of sound mind. It was cleary stated that she was drunk or frantic when that call was made so it is 100% void. It would not have even made it in evidence in a real court room..

Im baffled by the comments talking down on the defendant. She is 100% the victim. It's clear that while the mom and her husband were separated she offered to give her daughter a car her husband bought for her that she does not use because she does not like it. Once she and her husband made up, he got into her ear and told her to tell her daughter that she needs to pay him $900 for the car. He had no right to do this as the moment he gifted the car to his wife it became hers, and it its registered in her name. If money were to be owed it would not even be owed to him so why HE filed the case is asinine. However no money should be owed as the daughter received this as a GIFT. Imagine your mom giving you a present then your step dad who she momentarily broke up with comes back into her life and tells her to tell you that you owe him for the gift that she gave you.
Sad that this would ruin a family over a now junked car that nobody likes or even wanted.
