This is wonderful! Thank you!! My grandmother Florence knew Rosa from her youth and used to talk about her. My grandma was an English immigrant who played piano and theater organ for silent films & vaudeville in Waterbury, CT in the early 1900's. I am enjoying this biography so much.
What a wonderful biography of the twentieth century's greatest "Italian" soprano. My father, who was very much a Wagnerite, heard her as Norma at Covent Garden and was so impressed that he bought the then very expensive 78s, which I still have. Undoubtedly she set the gold standard for all others to follow. Thank you so much.
This was a labor of love by Elayne Duke, the head of the Rosa Ponselle Foundation. She created the entire video herself. Elayne grew up knowing the great Rosa Ponselle. Elayne duke is the narator. This is a definitive biography directly from the source
Miss Duke oversaw the around-the-clock care of Mme. Ponselle when she was no longer able to take care of herself-and she did so while willingly depriving herself of personal time. During the sad decline of Mme. Ponselle, when she could no longer speak, her famous estate, Villa Pace, caught fire. Miss Duke not only relocated the great lady to the best temporary surroundings, but also oversaw the complete restoration of Villa Pace.
Yes it is. The vhs has about 20 years. Before uploading this part, I mailed, wrote and phoned to the Ponselle shop foundation, to know if they still sell the vhs. I have not any answer. I think this clip in youtube is the less we can do to exalt Ponselle's remind. If I in future know that the vhs is ready again, I inmediately retired the clip. If not, in one month I will upload the 2nd part.jfsanin
