- The Timbales are one of the key percussion instruments in Salsa music. The basic cascara rhythm ('cascara' meaning 'shell') is played on the side/shell of the drum and is commonly heard in verse and solo sections of salsa music. It is a slightly more complex pattern which moves between 'on' and 'off-beat' (numbers and the 'and' count) accents. This rhythm is fundamental for the salsa dancer to be able to identify and will help the dancer to connect with the timing of the music more effectively.
This video is designed to help Salsa dancers develop their timing and understanding of the instruments, and how it relates to some of the basic steps in Salsa.
