Care to spare some names of notable releases? New Beat is BTW still made by like a dozen producers, but the movement is way too spread around Europe to become organized into regular scene.

New Beat was mishmash of everything best 80s West European club scene had to offer. It faded away because most listeners were worn down exactly because of that sound. Today it sounds fresh again for new generations who were only familiar with 80s mainstream music.
