  • Turn the down the lights, put your headphones on, and come on a journey with me.
    We actually start building!!!
    In this video, we mill the foundation beams and after 2 years are harvesting our logs we actually screw the first two pieces of wood together.
    This is a temporary foundation for the building process. The cabin will be unassembled and relocated on a permanent foundation down the road.
    This cabin will be built using 100% self harvest lumber for a private woodlot.
    This video is sponsored by Granberg International, the makers of the Alaskan Mill chainsaw mill. They have an incredible assortment of tools designed to turn your logs into lumber, beams, or live edge tabletops.
    Check them out here,

    This video is part of my cabin build series. That playlist is here.

      Trustin Timber 💕🧐✝️. You was smart to wait , for it to turn dark to use your LAZER beam , I think 🤔 they said winter ❄️ is the best to build a cabin ,because you have to strip off the bark , before putting it on the House 🏠 could you tell us in every video that you do , what ingredients your using also , because I really , really want to learn everything I can , and thanks for everything your doing to show us how to build. Sir can you please see. Primitive survival/ primitive living. To learn how to build a underground house 🏠. It might help if we go to war , I discovered there channels. You can use extra room also 🤗. Just a idea 💡 can’t wait for your next video. I’ll tell everyone every day 🧐. I want to live in the forest like this and grow very big crops 🧐. Go hunting , fishing 🎣. Sir don’t you have to burn each side of the log , because I saw in a video they was doing that 🧐

    • @TrustinTimber
      @TrustinTimber  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rhonda Clark this comment definitely made me smile. I’m so happy you really, really want to learn everything you can. That’s great and you can learn it all. If the ingredients you want are the bread I cooked in the pan at the beginning I have a video called “survival bread / bannock” I posted recently where I teach how to make it. As for burning the boards, you probably saw someone doing Shou Sugi Ban which is a Japanese technic traditionally used on cedar boards. I thought about it on my boards but I like the natural bright colours and the natural aging and yellowing that will occur over time. Maybe I’ll try it in the future. What country are you from?

I get value out of this book by getting ideas on what features will work for MY sheds that I design myself. It has terrific photos, all are professional in quality. Book is quality coffee-table style--shiny, thick paper and a soft cover that is also high quality. I like it.

    Are those red pines? Lots of land in michigan full of row planted pines like those. Up until now those slivers of land were not all appealing but you've changed my mind. I've dreamt of building a 'treehouse' since I was a kid. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • @TrustinTimber
      @TrustinTimber  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was the same way. Planted trees don't look very appealing the first 25 years but once you start thinning them out leaving the biggest and start letting some mixed forest grow in you can basically design your own forest. It's exciting seeing all the new life start to grow once you make a little space for it.

    Great video. Inspiring. What's the purpose of charring the logs that are being put into the ground?

    • @TrustinTimber
      @TrustinTimber  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If they are charred it reduces rotting. I'm also doing it to take some of the moisture out of the soil as I pack it in.

    The opening laser light show and music is fantastic. The opening skillet bread makes me want it. Is that just flour and water as a base? I'm going to enjoy the entire series.

    First time watching your channel. Good stuff with the combining of old tech and new tech. One comment though, I've turned my volume up on TH-cam and my computer yet your voice is like a whisper. Please check your volume settings on the recording equipment. It is easier for us to turn down the volume than it is to turn it up past our top settings. Thanks.

      I'm not sure, I asked a member of the Timber Frame Guild and he figured 10 years at least. I had a little worry as I had a wood boring beetle in them at first but I seem to have that sorted and they are feeling dry and strong. If they start to fail before I'm ready I could always jack it up and put in blocks but I don't think I'll have to.

    Hope you threw gravel or stones in the hole before placing the wood posts. The end of the post is the most critical part to protect from moisture more so than the sides. I would have put asphalt foundation coating on the post prior to setting it.

    Okay so I have watched the four first episodes and the last 5-6 episodes (started in the wrong end). Your content is phenomenal. What you are doing is hard work, that is for sure. I am over average big and strong but what you are managing more or less alone impresses me. Have your physique changed in the period you have worked with the log preparation and the cabin building you would say? :-)

      Thank you. I've always been pretty active. I can't stand going to the gym, it feels like a waste of time, so I do this kind of stuff knowing it keeps me healthy. I find canoe tripping puts my body in better shape. I drink less beer:)
