It would have been really great if the answers by the audience (students) were loud, clear and understandable.

Becoz their wives prefer it there & don't let them return... Besides income is lower in india; & their love fr motherland is not yet felt; corruption, poverty, disparity, moral, ethics, envy still exists.

Nice session which gave some prominent time to the audience right from the start.
I am wondering if any of these people (whether speaker or audience) will actually go ahead and DO something about anything. Most of these "think-tank" sessions result in more thinking without any actual "DOING".
Without actually people putting their career on the lines, in small or big terms, NOTHING will ever change. Not in a country like India, not anywhere else.
VSC could instead conduct more sessions which are DOING centric. Who are the swamis who will make the audience DO something for a change? Bring them. Let the attendees not simply pass time in thinking more and more. Enough thinking is there in the country. Think and have a plan of action items and DO stuff. Follow up on a monthly, or a quarterly basis. Then analyse the actions and continue or change based on the results.

Regarding the discussion abt brain drain:
In India the superlative students are "kept down" - this is only partially true. Lets be very honest here. Even if there are similar opportunities intellectually in India, students will NOT be willing to pursue things here. It is just that premier institutes abroad are simply better connected to world-class research, almost all the major conferences, journals are themselves located abroad, a large chunk (say 80%) of the talent in ANY field (whether students or faculty) is in Europe and America (most of which are English oriented), the ease of living is just superior to any Indian city, and post-PhD/MS opportunities are more. Its a positively blessed cycle. In India everything is the other way round.
And can we also say - in India the responsibilities of having a family and maintaining it is quite high.
Institute of blaming academicians in India, fixing some of the above will help. Governance without corruption, plentiful government funding, patriotic and inspired academicians and students, general public (improve civic sense, keep cities walkable, clean, welcoming, easy!) - all these help. Above all - these + TIME+CONSISTENCY!

The word "education" is from the Latin words "ex + ducere"..."ex' meaning "out of" as in an "ex" wife/husband somebody out of your life and "ducere" means to lead forth, to draw out of the student, that which is dormant, which is "the Light within". The job of a teacher is to tease out, to draw out that light from within the child. This is the purpose of education. Sadly, most education is a force feeding of information, then a regurgitation of said information in what is called examinations.
In this system, if you remembered more, you scored higher marks.
This is a memory test, NOT a test of intelligence.
Intelligence is questiong what one is being taught, consulting other sources even outside the syllabus, then critically analysing, discussing and debating the topic ad infinitum...
Most education systems the world over is a "brain washing". 🧠 💧
Education has become corrupt, it's certainly not about spreading enlightment, rather it's about crass profiteering, a preparing of the majority to be little cogs in the world-wide economic circus.
