i love how on nearly every age of empires music video there are people reminiscing about how they used to play the game, and you can just see the nostalgia overwhelming them, even over youtube. as i move through life, i will always retain a computer capable of playing this game. when my kids are old enough, i will show them it in the hopes that it will be as enchanting and educational for them as it was for me. call me sad, this game is part of what made me who i am today :L
Omg i'm replying a 9 year old comment, but same here. I'm a really huge history nerd, and i would had never fell in love with history so much if it wasn't for when i played this game as a little kid , it's really a life changing thing
When you find yourself doing creative work or something that requires uninterrupted concentration, start your background music track list with this. You'll feel like suddenly your skills have improved +10.
I do that with the original age of empires ost playlist in their fixed order so by the time the intense songs come out, I'm about to finish the day-long task clutch-style XD I'll try it with AoE 2 next time
"War creeps in from the south, where Edward Longshanks, the avaricious King of England has returned from successful campaigns, to conquer Wales and France. As Longshanks turns his attention to Scotland, the shadow of fear settles across the Highlands."
Always love it when this plays right at the start. Dark Age. You start with nothing. You're surrounded by fog of war and can't see a thing. Tension is in the air as you slowly build your eco up.
this song is the part that makes me think back of my earliest aoe2 games and the sounds of the game. villagers shooting a deer or working on a farm. or the sound the knights horse makes. Nostalgia, back when we didnt care about playing a game for efficiency but to discover it ourselves.
WOW talk about a flood of memories when listening to this.. I remember playing this game almost nonstop back in 7th/8th grade. Now I'm 22 and working full time. Car payments, insurance bills, credit card bills, credit card bills... etc etc etc. SHIT, I wish I was 13 again and the only "huge" concern was a 4-page research paper due next week.
I know the feeling. I started playing Age of Mythology in 2002 and i still play it today. I just love it, my favorite game ever. I only had dial up internet when i started playing the game.
My dad brought home our first computer in around 2000/2001 And The computer came with a copy of aoe 2 (The cover in plastic case was Black And white so i Have a feeling it was illegally made of something) And i remember how it felt playing a video game. It was The first game i Have never played And it was awesome. I was about 6 or 7 Back then
22 years of villagers gathering food, wood, gold and stone 22 years of knights and crossbows 22 years of crusaders attacking trade routes this is nostalgia in its purest form
I remember hearing about stuff in history class, then rushing home to make it on AOE, fucking great times, i miss that game, i dont know where the fuck it is,
Great music, great game. like so many other people this brings back alot of good memories. being a kid and having no worries, playing one of the best strategy games ever. When you play this game as a kid you would get so drawn in and really into the time period and all that. now though, if I played this I would get mad every time i was interrupted or reminded to do college work lol im gona buy these games again, so many good memories.
I'll never forget this song, even after 6 or so years of not playing it, when I think of this game this song will come to mind, perfectly. (funny that it's only with this song..)but I can remember some organ music coming afterwords.
This song reminds me of bearding sheep and starting my town hall and fields off from the very start, hour and hours of gathering sheep, food and exploring
I played this on my old Windows XP system when I was little in the early 2000's. This is one of the games that made me interested in history, that and medal of honor
I think I began playing this game when I whas 1 years old untill I whas about 6-8 (Ofcourse I picked it up and played it after but not as constant). I rember my Father playing it and my fathers brother to. So this bring back some really old and really good memories. I think I will beging playing it again.
@kaiserkarlzoso no kidding, this game has been the source of my Zealish like addiction to history and that is why i only get A++++ in school so no wonder why i was the best in History class. and this game also helped me a lot with the small handy wiki inside, can be found in the first AOE but opens in a secondary non FS window but still pretty nice knowledge here.
I remember playing this coming home from school at that specific date on 1999 to 2005. It made me😢 to realize how powerful AOE Franchise or Total War Games has seriously become a bad ass.
@Naruto00122 Short for LAN Party. Basically, you get a bunch of friends together with computers, link them together, and play games. Nerdy, but immense fun.

I like the way that if you just put the disc in you can rip all of the ingame music through a media player. This music takes me back to the days of dial-up.
When the Fall of Rome hits you so hard that your civilization is reduced to four guys and a horse.
GENERAL QENOBI..

When the unification of the Northern and Southern dynasties hits so hard that your civilization is reduced to seven guys, a horse, and, like, no food.
