I will admit, its nice to see a Smilodon acting more out of curiousity and not out of needless bloodthirst.
Yep, remember prehistoric creatures were not blood thirst but they were regular animals living like a animal
@@salvador_69.11
🙄😒 I’m sure Hollywood made “ Bad impressions” of prehistoric creatures before, but paleontology was done first, then we had a little fun. Of course, there’s more to a prehistoric creature that meets the eye. Some of us see it both ways
These guys were pretty much like any cat, their playful curious and yes will bite ya. Heck I would not be amazed if these guys at times used these big armadillos like scratching post for their claws
ye
He’s going around making a list of prey that’ll be easy to kill for future reference. Or he just wanted to hitch a ride
1:38 he is, after all, a cat. If he fits, he sits.
True relatable thing about cats 😂
😂😂😂I've 10 cats in my house, and they made these things too when I sat on the chair.
@@geralkay3012 BRO HOW DO YOU CARE FOR 10 CATS!?
@SpinosaurusEnjoyer I didn't care, but my sisters and brothers care too much.

Somilodons aren't actually related to wild cats at all actually..
They are cat 100%
@@-draco-469well yes they are cus they are still cats but they are a different branch than all living cats but they are still related just way further out than most people thought
@@-.__.447 I saw it that they aren't related to the newer wild cats
@@-draco-469 they aren't closely related they are very far off but nonetheless they are still cats so they are going to have some sort of relation regardless although it is probably a decent bit further out than we would be to the great apes
Doedicurus is a giant ancient relative of the Armadillo, though it weighs almost 300 times as much, about the size of a car. It’s spiked tail club, alone, can weigh 40 kilos, as much as a cannonball. Although fearsome defensive weapons against predators like Smilodon, the males often use them on each other, to batter rivals into submission, during hormone-fueled jousts for a mate.
That is definitely from walking with beasts
Indeed, because that’s where I first saw Doedicurus, but never again lately, until now.
Doedicurus isn’t ancient from an evolutionary or ecological perspective. It’s modern, because it evolved and lived at the same time as most animals alive today.
And is very good at harvesting stone
@@bkjeong4302 That's true. It would almost certainly still be around if early humans hadn't hunted them to extinction.
I love how the Doedicurus’s armor is portrayed as being sort of fuzzy
Just like their modern armirdillo relatives.
velvet
Design-wise ] for an animal it would make sense.
Looks ike a cat toy if you think about it
Hairy armadillos also have fuzzy armor.
Even if you don't like this documentary, you have to admit this segment was pretty well done.
How do you think it is? Worth watching?
Yeah i liked this one. TBH other than the dinosaurs the rest of the animals got nice designs. The CGI needed more time to be pollished though, specially in the feathers/hair department.
@@nachomiranda589 how does it look compared to the prehistoric planet?
@@mehmetgurdal terrible lol Prehistoric Planet set a high standard for future prehistoric documentaries and reconstructions. You can tell that they tried to stay as accurate as possible on this one (for the most part, since Allosaurus is just Godzilla basically) but the technology for Prehistoric Planet (and probably the bugdet and time invested on it) is way superior.
@@nachomiranda589 OFF 😁 than I guess I'll hold my expectations low
A young Smilodon climbing around those massive Doedicuruses. Doesn’t he realize this isn’t his typical playground?
*Doedicuruses.
@@touremuhammad5983 Fixed
Right? Half expected a Disney orchestra to start playing.
Everything is a playground to a cat.
Get that Smilodon a counter to knock things off of!
I'll admit, this was the most adorable scene I've ever watched when I first saw it.
without it humanozing things uncessarily.
What game is your profile pic from? I loved that can't remember it's name
@@bigirononmyhip3812 Turok:Evolution
Is it just me or do the mammal and mammal like ancestors in this series just look particularly good compared to the other prehistoric animals in this series? Like it’s really clear that mammals are the animators real area of expertise?

It might also be partially because we tend to know how dinosaurs look better, since they're more popular. But maybe not. Maybe you know a ton about extinct mammals. If so then if you think the mammals look better, I suppose that they genuinely DO just look better. But I mostly know how dinosaurs looked, so I'm mostly guessing with the other animals!
From what I can tell, all the synapsids looked better than the reptiles did. Even the lystrosaurus and gorgonopsid looked good. I actually loved the gorgonopsid. First time I've seen it depicted on TV with obscured fangs. I never really understand why they're often represented completely exposed since they're not that long compared to the length of their chin. They should be easy to cover unlike a smilodon's fangs.
"So, there were these rocks... and I swear, I managed to piss a couple of them off. Funniest shit I ever seen."
It would have been funny if the Smilodon started sharpening his claws on one of the Doedicurus' shell. They would have been able to feel through them, like how modern armadillos can, so a Smilodon scratching on the shell would still hurt like a motherfucker, which would have warranted a thwack with a tail club, or getting bucked off.
The last moment is very fun.🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Smilodon : No no no move aaaaa no jumping
Big amarildo : Eeee weeee.
With how much big cats act like domesticated cats even in the wild, would it be a stretch to say smilodon would sit in a cardboard box if they could?
I guarantee that if you put a fridge crate in front of a smilodon they'd hop into it after a brief inspection
Doesn't matter if it's 800 pounds with swords for teeth, a cat is a cat, and he will enjoy a nice cardboard box.
hehe kitty
Except that Smilodon was unlike any cat we know today, they were from a different lineage entirely. Despite being depicted as very cat-like and even living in prides in almost every form of media, it's believed that Smilodon, particularly the largest species, like Populator, were solitary and may have behaved in a manner similar to bears, typically slow, lumbering animals but fast as lightening when they needed to be.
Knowing how my cats act, there’s a non-zero number of smilodons that would have eaten the cardboard too. 😭
I like them pertaining smilodon as a curious animal as others big cats like, instead of a bloodthirsty monster.
At the end of the day, a cat is still a cat.
A cat is a cat
Even if it has canines of 11 inches, it still wil behave like any other cat
@@markdebruyn1212 just a Big kitty

Can’t believe cameraman was able to capture such a moment!
1:40 I do the same when i want my cat to move from my knees.
I love how they act as animals. Yes, they might be a bit bigger and toothier, but this is simply very big cat. Curious and probably looking for breaking up the boredom. Also models are more than decent! I´ve seen the very first CGI back then and blown me away. Every paleontologist can use to certain extent his or her own imagination how they looked like. And I like this one!
The whole scene was hilarious! I absolutely adore the author´s sense of humour!
He's just a big kitten.
0:12 a smilodon 😀
😀
😀
I’m glad that the Doedicurus actually have an armor-plated “helmet” on the tops of their heads, which was bizarrely missing in the model from Walking with Beasts (2001).
Love how the smilodon acts like a normal cat instead of a bloodthirsty killer.
I don't know if you noticed but they made sounds like a cougar to this smilodon.
which ironically is correct because the ability to roar is unique to pantherines and smilodon is not a pantherine
"Don't play with your food"
Me:
Females in cats and fish display a lot more curiousity than males who usually are more fight and mate. Beautiful curiousity. These were on the Island of Trinidad and Mastadons, even giant sloths, wonderif Smilodon was aswell
Sounds like a load of misinformation
I have to say that the smilodon model looks much better than the ones we saw in the first episode
Smilodo : Hmm, this looks like a good spot.
Doedicurus: get off me!
Smilodon: I’m feeling it, SpongeBob!
SpongeBob: Smilodon, that’s not a ride!
Doedicurus: Get off of me!
Сколько в мире животных о которых мы еще не слышали и не видели созданных Творцом! : "Как многочисленны твои дела, Господи! Во всём видна твоя мудрость. Земля полна твоих творений."

Doedicurus:STOP I DONT LIKE THAT!
Cats and Hippos will do daring things--that is true.
This is the BEST Doedicurus design ever
I prefer the JWTG deodicurus (nostalgic)
Whoever did the animation really know cats. I can imagine a catzilla doing exactly the same. Also, the kitty probably thought 'why is my new warm nap rock moving!?' At the end.
"Every angle" it's a BALL
It’s like watching those videos of Lions Tigers & Leopards playing with a cardboard box, they just look silly trying to figure out what this is.
Smilodon doesn’t know what these giant Armadillos are.

While this documentary is a bit lackluster, this is my favorite scene.
Even if the documentary had some HUGE inaccuracies
Some scenes were pretty good
Just a cat being a cat
Modern cat playing with small toy ball
Prehistoric cat playing with hard big ball
Cats will be cats, no matter how big, small, or ancient.
Смотрю на эту красоту

What I learn from this is that smilodons are very FUN PARTNERS no matter what your race is.
I think they nailed smilodon but failed with doedicurus large herbivores can be pretty blood thirsty especially with young around.
The Smilodon looks so cuddly I want to hug it so badly
They used them as cat scratchers.
The funny thing is that the armadillo can 100% feel the scratching, which probably hurts like hell and will probably wants to club the Smilodon for real
This is so cute
Kitten is still a kitten even a several hundred pounds 😊

One of the good parts of this documentary.
lol glad to see an animal like that just acting out of curiosity loved how he just crawled all over them
When doedicurus looked like Ankylosaurus when in dinosaur
Finally a Modern Documentary with realistic Animal behaviour 😂
Only in this scene, there are tons of examples that are the exact opposite of this in the show. Lystrosaurus being portrayed as a Permian equivalent to the dodo bird, Smilodon hunting a Phorusrhacid, a singular Cave Lion taking down an adolescent Mammoth.
For as cool as it is to see these animals be portraited as apex bloodthirsty predators in media.
I love shows that remind us, that they're just animals. They're curious, inquisitive, strong and oftentimes, very adorable
Imagine your this Doedicurus just going about your day when suddenly, a massive cat with fangs that are disproportionately huge comes along and starts playing with ya..
I’d be so confused and probably a little scared
I think that smilodon is a subadult. An adult smilodon wouldn't get to close to the adult doedicurus.
This exactly shows sabertooths weren't bloodthirsty killers, they are well big cats, like our kitty cats, they are curious abt anything, but being bloodthirsty when needed
he's working his mobility :)
Megantereon cultridens.

life on our planet was a very fun and good documentary
i hope they continue it
If the saber tooth had half a mind to just flip the young one over on its back it would get a easy meal or a easy belly rub depending on its mood.
The smilodon is so kind
Bro ignored those tails like nothing, one smash and he did be over
stumbled onto this channel for the first time: how did you get Morgan Freeman as narrator?
This is one of my favourite scenes in the entire series
Buzz off, big cat!
Oh they are best friends!
I loved a life on our planet but the cgi needed some work with some of he fur and feathers
Imagine Smilodon use it as like a ct scratcher thing😂
I’ve seen these guys before, they’re really good at gathering stone
Thanos : Should've went for the head.
Def nailed what a cat might do in this situation.
Everyone: smilodon was a terrible giant predator that k!lled eveything on it's path
Smilodon actually:
What the cat doin'!
Even the old cats, are still cats ^^
Homotherium??
At the very end when giant armadillo was trying to knock the Smilodon off, the cat made 8.
And this began feline's fascination with balls.....
This is such a cat things to do.
They got the cat mannerisms down pat. Btw, it's interesting how this recreation of a smilodon looks rather hyena-like, with the spinal mane, the spots in its fur and the similar posture. I wonder if that was on purpose.
As crappy as this documentary was… it did have some awesome moments like this
Curiosity bested the cat
A car's a car, curious and silly no matter what size or era! :3
Prehistoric Park (2006)

Something that popped into my head was: “Why the Smilodon so fat?” 💀
That's extra thick bones and muscles than modern Bigcats.
