I find it phenomenally interesting that Charles' trauma presents as positive, he's always happy, he always finds the bright side of life but it's rooted in such horrible abuse and assault. It's almost a red herring. Trauma with a twist. You see that kind of thing in mental health a lot, people who can present/mask well enough that others don't believe in the level of mental trauma they face on the daily as its so well hidden. It really makes you think.
