I absolutely love this show and I was born 11 years after it finished!! I used to watch this when it was over a decade old but Knight Rider and The A Team have been 2 of my favourite TV Shows since I was 2 years old!! I've never grown out of them!!:)
This scene used to freak me out as a kid every time we drove down a dark road. I'd turn around and stare into the darkness...looking for that evil yellow scanner quietly watching and following me.

Some modern stuff is pretty good but a lot of it is bad, but then whilst Knight Rider is cool in some ways, I find Hasselhoff way too phoney and cheesy and that car is beginning to look dated. KR is a good kids show, but for adults I need something with a bit more depth to the plot.
To be honest, Peter did a good KARR in the first episode but Paul voiced KARR the 2nd time. ( This one ) but anybody with a good deep voice can voice KARR.

Yep, that blooper was also repeated and the end when Michael dropped John off at his new store. We caught a small glympse of the season 1 & 2 KITT dashboard.
The front of the car, and the wheels, look different, so those can't be pictures of the Knight 4000. That 90s knock off didn't even come out until 1991. This episode came out in 1984. Like I said, there's no way that was the Knight 4000 in those pictures.
It might be just a draw of an earlier prototype, that was at some point meant to become Kitt (or Karr) instead of the Trans Am, but never made it though. They kept it just as decoration on the wall. Well in the 2 part pilot, Michael recognized Kitt as being "his car", so they used the one, they found in the desert with dying Michael instead, because it was easier to rebuild an existing car, than building a whole new from scratch. That would mean, they used two identical cars to the one found by Michael's body. Which leads us to the conclusion, that Kitt actually isn't Michael's original car, but Karr is. Lol.

So, I wonder how KARR knew where to find the Knight semi-trailer. Homing beekin, radar..?? what? Plus it’s really strange how “It” went from being KITT’s identical twin, to it’s kind of Own Model; License plate, Yellow Scanner, Different voice modulator or Voice Box. Stuff like that.
KARR was a prototype of KITT. It was meant to serve the exact same purpose as KITT does except KARR had a selfish personality. Therefore, it was placed back into the garage and a new car was replicated as KITT. Only this time, KITT has a compassionate personality (care for human life). In a previous episode, some burglars broke into the garage and released KARR who later gets into a fight with KITT as KARR ended up falling down a cliff onto a beach where it was buried into sand which created a dune. A season or two later, this guy (the driver in the video) finds a buried KARR on the beach and is brought back to life to seek revenge against KITT. Only this time, the sand/minerals have turned KARR's scanner from red to yellow; plus, he has a much darker personality.
No, see "Trust Doesn't Rust" (season 1, episode 9). Sorry I spoiled the ending. And "KITT vs KARR" (season 3, episode 6). A scene from the latter is featured in this video. Plus, somewhere in the episode KARR talks about wanting a new look to separate himself from KITT.

Again: Poor Writing. Next, I doubt very much that the "sand/minerals" would have anything to do with turning Karr's forward scanner from red to yellow. Since it is protected by the Bonded Shell that covers the whole car in general as stated by Bonnie in Trust Doesn't Rust"... Once again: all poor writing. And are you saying that the Sand/Minerals made a new License Plate & a different voice?...as others have stated. And this New Look as you put it, was ridiculous to begin with. The Bonded Shell that covers both Karr & Kitt would prevent a new paint job from being applied to it as it would probably just orange peel, & start chipping off anyway. Not to mention that it would really get some scratches without it being covered in the Bonded Shell that the rest of the car is. so it all amounts to what I said: Poor Writing by the staff.
It's just one of those things where you have to suspend disbelief. "protection oneself at all costs (even if it costs lives)" is very selfish as KARR was such with his interactions with others. KITT was the total opposite. KARR was seeking revenge on Michael and company for being locked in a garage for so long and because KARR was jealous of KITT for being "the chosen one" for Michael. Even though KARR or its LED lights might be protected by the molecular shell, it wasn't completely fail proof. And KARR's new paint job from black to two-tone Black and Gray wasn't exactly your average Maaco job. And on top of being locked in a garage for so long, KARR was buried under a makeshift sand dune as well. Tell me that wouldn't give you a serious case of cabin fever. The writing might be poor or amateurish; but it's fun and it's not meant to rival Shakespeare.
Now now, don't go ragin' on William Daniels. He had the perfect voice for KITT. Much better than Val Kilmer in that God awful "Knight Rider" series remake with that lame Mustang a few years ago.
