Really great video and a very important topic for choosing the best footwear when hiking. I have used waterproof boots for the majority of my own hiking but after trying out trail runners instead, the heavy and warm boots have really lost their appeal. They're still great for close to- or below freezing and in snow, but for the vast majority of conditions, the trail runners are the winner in my book.

I disagree on the grip: good hiking boots and good trail running shoes have the same grip. The former might even have the better grip because they are more easily bendable. Just compare top hiking boots and top trail-running shoes of Salomon: they have similar soles.
Also disagree on waterproofing and breathability: if you compare goretex hiking boots and shoes, they have similar waterproofing properties, except that hiking boots are higher. Note that membrane boots and shoes will *not* keep your feet 100% dry: they are good if it is a bit wet, but in worse conditions (walking through wet grass) they both suck.
And membrane takes more time to dry.
