I also freaked out a bunch about the toxic tampon news but there have been a couple of essays by scientists who have said the study is not accurate - one of the parts that I found reassuring is that in testing these tampons they used temperatures well beyond the temperature a body can reach, therefore leading to more chemicals showing up than would have at body temperature range. there's a substack by Jen Gunter that goes into more detail (it's called Don't Panic about Lead in Tampons) ❤
Thank you SO MUCH Keelin for addressing the sanitary product scandal. I ordered period knickers not realising many brands were also guilty of poisoning us with toxic metals (mainly silver). I managed to find a (hopefully) safe brand to use and this is my first cycle free bleeding. I’m appalled that this isn’t big enough news every person with a period deserves to know!
For anyone getting a period cup, I highly recommend the period cup quiz, it will help you avoid situations like that because that sounds honestly horrific
@@anniem251I would say her experience is out of the norm, they do have longer cups/ ones with a longer pulley thing. You can also measure the depth of your vagina to see if it's right for you. Or if you've had sex you generally know the depth. Sometimes my cup gets a little far up there but bearing down and getting my fingers up in there gets it out
Keelin is my favourite TH-camr period, she’s brill. And this popped up for me and oh my goodness Jordan you’re honestly fabulous. I’m now gonna have to deep dive watch your content. What a brilliant podcast episode. Thanks for this girls! Xxx
Girls thank you, I’m Irish living in London, the same age as you guys, also recently went through a breakup from a 5 year relationship so have been a little deranged. Also trying to figure out my hormones more and wtf is going on with my body. What Keelin said about soul ties actually often being toxic really resonated, I needed to hear that. This felt like getting advice from two friends and was exactly what I needed right now, I wish you both lovely feelings🌸
looooooveeeeee also I’ve been thinking abt water drinking culture in North America vs Europe esp with younger ppl being obsessed w hydration and I think it’d be an interesting video idea
As somebody that doesn’t have social media or consume much news (as I spiral) I didn’t know about the metals in tampons, WOW. Thanks for discussing that. It’s incredible just how much we’ve royally messed up the planet that so much is in the water and soil
This was so great and omg I love hearing the hate for Diary of a CEO. I feel seen ❤ he had someone on about autism before and the misinformation they were spouting?!
30:00 Was this about spontaneous desire vs responsive desire? If so, yeah there do seem to be broadly gendered patterns - though plenty of exceptions of course. Anecdotally, as a trans guy who's been on testosterone for a year, pre T it was all responsive, smushy demisexuality. Starting T it was the same vibe, just with higher libido. Now since a recent dose increase, the spontaneous horn has kicked in which is totally new and feels v undignified at big 35 😂 That one extra pump of Testogel really changed things, wild that hormones can change our personalities like that!
Teaching about periods is 100% on the Irish curriculum. I covered it last year with a class full of 10 year olds. I went through 3 packs of pads the first 2 days because I left them in the toilet for them to practise 😂😂😂😂 even the boys were asking could they bring some home to 'have a proper look'. If it hasn't been covered for your niece, it will be very soon. Its a topic the kids are always really interested to learn about and suddenly becomes not a big deal when they realise the conversation around it is open and factual ❤
Again...... it is on the Irish curriculum to teach body part with the anatomically correct terms from Junior Infants. Not sure who this guess is, she seems lovely, but completely misinformed. The kids are learning all of this as part of SPHE and RSE in ireland from age 4. It's pretty extensive. The only reason a child isn't covering it is if they go to a private school that has some sort of exemption for some reason, but I'd say even then it would be rare.
@@anithabombitaI went to primary school in Ireland and we didn’t have the period talk until after a number of students had their period. Towards the end of 5th class I think. Also I don’t remember SPHE ever discussing body part names with us before that. It would have been “private area” or something similar. I’m 24 now so she’s probably speaking from experience. Things may have changed
@lisax4626 thats really awful.your school wasn't following the national curriculum. I taught it at the beginning of 4th class last year and the correct names should be used for body parts from infants. We use the words 'vagina' and 'penis' in the 'bathing a baby' lesson in infants. Its incredibly important, in case any child ever needs to make a disclosure about a touch, that they have the appropriatel anguage. It's there since the 1999 curriculum. I literally handed out pads last year to play with and there was an open dialogue about it all year. Even some boys took pads to have a look. There probably were some kids who had already had their period but thats why it needs to be a collaborative effort involving parents/guardians and educators, and I had an information meeting at the start of the year about it in case any parents didn't know how to go about it. School needs to cover the scientific side at the very least. I'm so sorry that was your experience. The only schools with any leeway in this area are private schools, so if you were in a public school they didn't teach you what they were legally obliged to.
Hot take, you don't need to rinse a period cup off before you put it back in, it is nice to but in a public setting it's not always possible, also the blood on it acts as like lube kinda lol
@miaadelizi4714 It really should be socially acceptable to rinse it in the sink, shoutout to anyone pulling this baller move already 💪 My tactic was to carry a little spray bottle of water to give it a little rinse in the cubicle, not perfect but for the anxious or those using the gents it's a middle ground to feel cleanish!
Highly recommend reading come as you are (the audiobook is so fun), you'll probably get a lot more information and you won't have to listen to the stinky capitalist podcast
Second. I'm borderline evangelical about this book. I was always someone who felt relatively clued up about sex, but the book goes so deep into issues of desire and performance that I still learned loads. I think it's an incredibly important book that everyone of every gender should read.
This episode is one of my favorites and it’s so relatable: 1) pads smell FISHY what is that smell?! 2) I feel the exact same way about sex and relationships as you Jordan that there is a performance aspect and an expectations I’m putting on myself. I also lose a lot of interest as the relationship goes on. It’s hard for me to feel horny for someone if they annoyed me or disappointed me that day or if I’m tired or stressed. I still don’t understand when is a good time of day to have sex when you live together….. I guess before dinner because after I dinner I feel BLOATED. I also would prefer after showering but then you don’t have your makeup and hair done. I really relate to the not in the mood unless already started 😫 3) I LOVE THAT ITS COMPLETE NOT A FAILURE
started using cloth pads like 10 years ago and never looked back (they don't have any smell either). I did try out tampons and cups before but it was always super painful... idk guess I just can't put them in properly 🤷♀️
I use period undies and nothing else! Tampons hurt to insert and pull out and pads feel like nappies. I pre wash them before I put them in the wash to make sure they're clean. I recommend it to all my friends
Aah, there are way more than two sizes of period cup please please please look up the menstrual cup quiz, they even have a comparison chart of all the different brand sizes!!!!!
my take on why we lose interest in sex when we develop a longer relationship is bc we have more intimacy and reassurance with the partner(s) and we arent searching for that in the sex that often anymore.
Because he promotes hustle culture and individualism. He makes out as if we live in a meritocracy (e.g. If you’re poor it’s bcos you don’t work hard enough , or if you’re rich you work really hard). He just promotes a lot of people who got rich off exploitation (there might be some exceptions like maybe the sex therapist for example) but yeah , Capitalism Ken as Jordan so greatly put it
my two fave internet girl niches coming together like this on a random tuesday

This collab needs to happen waaay more often

Which brand did you decide on? I also didn’t know the undies contain poison!
"pluck a seasponge" thats a living breathing invertabrate animal i am not shoving that in there babes😭

I would but I’m way too scared of getting it stuck lol

And sex education usually occurs in 5th or 6th Class, long before secondary school.
