At least for the 20 years I was in as MP not one cop owned a firearm outside of their issues duty weapon from the armory. Most servuce personel don't purchase firearms until after they've been discharged.

My mum passed away now but when she was around, those last couple of years on planet earth, I was like her guardian angel, I would not let her out of my site. "I wonder how this young man is affected by his mother leaving him? I wonder if he will also follow the family tradition, only God knows."
