I’m really not surprised namjoon was/ is afraid of criticism. His life is in the spotlight for everyone to judge and criticise and the public did and STILL DO judge and criticise him because they don’t view him as a human being but a celebrity who “earns a lot of money and should therefore suck it up and deal with that criticism” that’s just traumatising honestly… especially if you’re the type to overthink. I think anyone put in that situation would be more than afraid. I’m so grateful that he was and is able to endure all that for so long. He’s a real role model.

RM reads a lot of books, so when writing lyrics - he used a line from a book cause he thought it was a great line and didnt think much of it.

18:00 well RM's music/lyrics is a reflection of his own story just like what Bang Pd said. _He really is great and amazing for being so flexible and has this continuous character growth._ I relate to him a lot because as a writer, even though I'm just writing these fictional characters lives- it's a personal thing. In every work I did there's a piece of me in there. It's something I spend time to think about, to create. Even though I may not react and lack expressing my anxiety, deep inside I am wary and scared of criticism but that doesn't mean I don't welcome it or just feign ignorance of its existence.
    I'm still afraid no matter.
Same goes for Namjoon since he values having meaningful lyrics that makes you think "so that's what he meant!" and it'll make the song a whole new experience (he mentioned this in a vlive, can't remember which but it's when he's still using his old studio that has his collections in the bg) so working on something that's basically a piece of yourself, something you put feelings for, have such biased and poor criticism without considering what kind of person RM is or his intention or simple empathy towards his works to know that he's not plagiarising, and never claimed it's his but mainly used those out of inspiration. He's a bookworm, a nerd, and he knows a lot of things and has appreciation in various subjects even as something so psychological (looking at you MOTS:7) - he's been doing this so many times, he loves referencing informations that he knew would fit his narrative and making a whole new world around it.
It's nothing uncommon just like in the art world. People take references of other people's photos then create a whole new painting using those references. (I used art for perspective but you get what I'm tryna say about it being common, Just look at Hamilton- did historians claimed Lin Manuel Miranda plagiarised them? No)
Having so many people that didn't criticised him with a neutral open-mind is a huge stab to the heart anyone shouldn't experience. That's why he's afraid of criticism because those work of his that get criticised are his music that he worked so hard on with such passion till he feels like it was good enough to release. Please he's such a precious being, he's so open and doesn't discriminate and when he does something wrong- he owns up to it and apologizes because if he knew it'll upset people- he wouldn't even dare do it.
He said that he wants to be honest and sincere while not seemingly be attacking someone. It's because he's the kind of person that has a lot of haters so him saying anything, locals would think it's directed towards something far away from his initial intentions. Just like the cyphers, we know it's for B-free mainly but they never dropped a name, or RM's Joke. Those are responses they did for the criticism they've got but they're not stirring up a fight simply putting out their thoughts without actually attacking anyone since they're not that kind of people.
TL:DR Namjoon is so precious and kind and appreciates everything you give him so if he knows it's a bad thing, he wouldn't internationally do it in a heartbeat no matter what. And he reflects a lot and continually bettering himself for everyone and for himself.
    18:12 just as he said.

I think all performers, especially as they get more popular, have to have an alternate identity. You may want to be as genuine as you can, be 'yourself' on stage, but it takes a lot out of you to put all of yourself on stage. If you show everything, then there's nothing left for yourself, especially as fame takes so much from you. Even in normal life, we have personas we use in public, that may be more confident, funnier, whatever serves to get you through your day. In pop there tends to be a character that your company pushes on you to fulfill your concept, to make the fans more interested in you, which is sort of what CL mentioned. Or even to just get on stage, you'll be more confident, more outgoing, than you might normally be on the daily. That's kind of what Zico was saying. You see it with Hobi and Jin a lot especially, in that the members have often commented that they are actually very serious people behind the scenes. But Hobi gave himself the bright JHope persona to force himself out of his quieter, darker mindset, and Jin in this video mentioned that he jokes around to make others laugh and feel more comfortable, which in turn makes him feel more comfortable. Stage RM is confident and badass, whereas Namjoon is quiet and contemplative. Same for Suga and Jimin, they can be bubbly and fierce on stage when they're so much softer and quieter in real life. Tae and Jungkook are also quieter, goofier, and much more shy offstage, but as soon as they step foot out on stage they're fierce and confident and you cant take your eyes off them. I've seen somewhere that you have only so much currency/energy of yourself that you can give out daily, and constantly having people around you, having thousands/millions of eyes on you, as you give yourself to them no matter how genuine you try to be, costs a lot of your personal energy. There's a reason why so many performers have issues with their mental health.

Depends on the company but the producers chooses your personality for you. Jin was asked to be silent and mysterious - then years later they listened to him and let him be himself. Jimin was such a bad boy (he admits that he also tried very hard to portray that himself) but then understood that he should just be himself

it always breaks my heart how most of the kpop “community” keeps portraying joon as this horrible person when he’s actually one of the only idols who have actually acknowledged AND learned from his mistakes, and keeps proving that he is a great person. he should be seen as an example of growth, but instead everyone prefers to portray him in a negative light to the point that new kpop fans who didn’t even know kpop at the time still bring up his mistakes without context in petty twitter arguments that don’t even concern BTS. it infuriates me. BTS really only have ARMYs and ARMYs only have BTS. 💜

You never know just by looking at someone what they are going through and what they've been through and their experiences. RM is a good example 💜 of that.

People who are as goal oriented and ambitious as him do tend to be sensitive to criticism or to the overall public opinion of them. (He's also a little bit of a people's pleaser and someone who is constantly paying attention to other people's feelings.) He's also very self critical, people who are perfectionistic already are criticising themselves... Outside voices can add to that internal pressure. There's also the fact that he's a lyricist and when you write or make art heavily based on your own personal experience (rather than fiction), it becomes difficult to separate what people say about your work from your person.

If I were to be a celebrity who’s life is gonna be out there for the entire world to pick apart and judge, I’d rather the whole world see and judge a “fake” me than the real true me, I’m too afraid of vulnerability to show the real me and be okay with the real me being judged and picked apart by the entire world. My mental health would not be able to handle that and I guess it’s the same for most celebrities.

I think it is amazing that you don't have and/or don't feel the necessity to have an alter ego. And please understand, with what i am saying next, I do not mean that you are not struggling or that your life is easy by no means. If yo don't need or feel the need to do so, it means that your family/environment was good enough (meaning you were not going to kick out of your home or killed, etc) for you to allow ALL of the sides of you to be you, which is amazing and I envy a lot. I have an alter ego for my job and I purposely did that because I am unable and sometimes unwilling to be that person in my everyday life.
I've tried to let THAT SIDE of me out and unfortunately in my environment it is a bit too much for people to handle, and I also realised that in order to allow that side of me to thrive, I would have to compromise, and I don't want it to be compromised, so I had to detached it. I think it is important to understand that when people have alter egos, they are not ANOTHER SELF but ANOTHER PART OF A SELF. All the alter egos combines form the ego; at lest in mine and most cases.
For example, Jin, Jungkook and Jimin are the only ones that kept their names and I do believe that their families have been very open-minded in the way their children grew. The others have different names, obviously I don't know them so I don't know the reason why they have different names, but if I may to make an educated guess they wanted to separate THIS life, from THAT life. Sometimes is because of family, or friends, or society, or work, or even themselves.
Sorry 🙏🏾 that was hella long, but yeah, just wanted to put that out there, now I will keep watching the video (please understand this wasn't an attack, but an attempt at an explanation from a person with an alter ego 💜).

True to this. Being able to fully be yourself in all aspects of your life (with work, family, friends, strangers, etc.) means you, in some way, have a blessed life. It's extremely stressful and takes a toll on your mental health and outward relationships to always need to monitor/modify your natural behaviors when you're in an environment that doesn't allow you to be yourself.

I don't get why yt would block these...Aneesa runs them all through to check for copyright violations before she posts them. Yt is a pain!
I can't agree with you about celebrities being transparent. BTS wouldn't resonate with so many people if they stayed on some pedestal. No, we don't know everything about their lives, and shouldn't, but the fact that they share their thoughts and emotions, they show they are vulnerable and struggle, is what makes the bond between them and ARMY so strong.
When Hobi says "Thanks, Mama" at the end of the song I tear up every time. That's something every mother wants to hear from their child.

I disagree I think it's an aura of fakeness that is equal to Celebrity so if you mean Celebrity aura is fake I would agree with that because you are seeing very little of the real personalities. What I love about BTS is you get a look into the personality too and you care about them more because you see they are human.

He used a line from poet Eun Oh in a song. The accusation came from another artist who used the same exact line in his song too. Tell me, does that deserve getting bullied by other fandoms to the point of severe depression and anxiety?! RM is right, how much does he share without seeming weak or defensive... Anyway, during voting, this fandom needs to remember the traumas these dudes have gone through. No mercy!
