it’s good ARPG because the combat has a lot of depth and variety. there are so many different ways to play, not just vocations but also the exact skills you equip. there are also so many cool interactions between the player and the world as it pertains to combat, like toppling a cyclops to use as a bridge, or pushing a boulder off a cliff onto a big group of hobgoblins. the soul of this game is really in its combat, I had much more fun exploring the world of Elden Ring and the combat was more *challenging*, but DD2’s combat is just more fun.

You made an absolutely great point about the microtransactions, the analogy of eating fast food, watching porn, hell I'd say even going to a supermarket engages in practices that inspired and created microtransactions. Has anyone ever noticed how the candies, chips, sodas and all sorts of junk are always by the cashiers? They're there to prey on the dopamine depletion you have by the time you've chosen all your groceries, it's a great idea as at that point, a buck or two for a candy bar or a soda doesn't seem much for a treat, does it?
That's called product placement strategies in marketing, anything you ever buy anywhere that is either in a franchise store of chain uses it to get extra bucks out of your pocket, go wage wars on that, that's what started the problem.

Yeah I always talk about the psychology of stores and shopping and people are sometimes surprised how much thought goes into the setups
There’s even a reason why the aisles are so narrow. And it’s not just to fit more stuff inside the stores

I played dark arisen over before 2 came out so i can see the changes clearly and overall it feels like a refined version of the first game almost everything has been upgraded especially the melee combat the fact that I can pin enemies down now rob them then start wailing on them with my daggers while my pawn stomps on them then gives me a high five after feels amazing 10/10 will recommend 👍

A reason I've seen that some of the stuff is underbaked (enemy variety, soundtrack, story, optimisation) is that A the game was developed in about 3 years and B the game had 400 credited employees working on it, whilst most Capcom games get 1000 to 1500. The fact it came out as good as it did with half or 1/3rd the normal capcom budget is impressive, and an expansion to add more enemy variety is what I am most looking forward to, besides the optimisation patches

I expected to like this game but was surprised at how much I like it. Not since Skyrim have I experienced a game with such addictive exploration, it's a "stay up way later than I should for just one more quest" game for me I mean I usually hate companions in games like this and almost always play solo, but in this game I find the pawns especially my main pawn, so weirdly charming. I make a habit of never watching guide videos before I've put some solid time into games like this. Just to avoid spoilers but also because of things like this: when my main pawn died, I was heartbroken. I'd spent hours exploring the countryside with her, she'd had my back fighting hordes of enemies, I'd chuckled at her weird sense of humour. It wasn't until one of my other pawns mentioned that I could resurrect her at a riftstone that I actually realised this was possible. I didn't learn that from watching a TH-cam guide, I'd learned it organically by simply playing the game. Any game that can make me care about a companion NPC that much is a winner for me. I couldn't care less about best builds, OP builds, best pawns, "beating" the game, etc. All decisions are made by instinct not strategy, and the game is so much better for it. This is fast becoming one of my favourite RPGs.

I like the game... but it felt like they didn't expand what they created in the original first game. They could've introduced some kind of marketplace system to make gold. (Not buying 100 apples and going across the map to sell it manually thus accidently discovering the whole map) The housing system is usless. Why wasn't a portcrystal added to the homes you purchase a long with maybe a place to put your wins from battle on display. A kitchen to cook foods with the ingredients you find across the land for buffs. The creatures need to be expandeds along with the ones at night. I feel like I just fought goblins repeatedly along with the saurians for some reason.

I played the hell out of DD. I enjoyed it far more than Skyrim. I found Skyrim incredibly bland without mods. Their dragons were a joke and the combat system was garbage. Yes, the drakes in DD eventually got easy, but so did everything else once you're at a certain level, but there were mechanics that made encounters interesting and even unique. I'm glad they improved this for DD 2.
As for the Souls combat system? I've grown tired of it. It hasn't changed much since Demon's Souls. Elden Ring introduced better jumping, but it's basically the same system. Attack, dodge roll, cast magic, and drink Sunny D. None of the classes feel very different. They can all parry, backstab, and dodge roll. DD and DD 2's vocations all feel different, and I like it.
I am sort of bummed that the devs decided to restrict armors and weapons customization in DD 2. I still enjoyed the game though. I also wished Capcom would have made the pawns shut up about certain things once they've mentioned it once or twice, such as ladders that you've already climbed. I believe the devs could have used AI for the pawns' conversations. It would have been more dynamic than recorded lines that we keep hearing repeatedly. You already mentioned all the flaws of DD 2 that I agreed with. Here's to hoping any future content will fix or improve it.

I enjoyed the first game and I enjoy Dragon’s Dogma 2 as well. There’s just nothing else like these two games on the market. I think there will eventually be a DLC for DD2 just like the first game did with the Dark Arisen version. It will bring the same improvements such as an eternal ferrystone as well as another endless dungeon type of challenge

I like pawns in this game. Especially their commentaries. I only have a problem with highfiving being too often. Like literally too often and it locks your character into the animation for 2-3 seconds. I also saw some people ordering their mage/sorcerer pawns to fly to unreachable treasure chests with Go command but I haven't been able to do that yet. I also think that weaponry is too lacking. We used to be able to get weapons with all different elements for every vocation but in DD2 you won't have weapons that belong to certain elements. The armors also have no resistance whatsoever Armors with resistances were end game but we still had them. Last comment would be archers having too small active skill set and like 4 of them being the special arrows. I know the reasoning behind that but there could have been a core skill that uses one arrow type that you chose in bag beforehand one at a time.We used to be able to get weapons with all different elements for every vocation but in DD2 you won't have weapons that belong to certain elements. We used to be able to get weapons with all different elements for every vocation but in DD2 you won't have weapons that belong to certain elements in different vocations.

I wish there was more rpg to dd2... i really wish...
Love the adventuring/exploring part, although at times very railroaded an experience... larger map, more varied environment more enemy types and more pronounced diffetences would have been welcome. At the moment I feel like dd2 combat gets shallow in the behind... i mean... just get better gear / higher level does it. No need for tactics or methods other than a checklist: do you have a ranged character to say deal with fliers? Do you have some form of magic damage?
Game has ok foundations but I think the execution leaves somewhat lot to be desired.
Oh yeah. Quests are comically bad.
And more mix-matching between the vocations too please. Id really want a self sufficient gish set up with say only maxing mage and fighter, instead of having both a mage and a fighter in the party.
    Just my view on it.

I love Dragon's Dogma 2, but my main issue with it is how inexusably repetitive the enemies are. DD2 has significantly fewer types of enemies than the previous game, which is just mind-boggling.
Granted, I'm talking about enemy types in DD1 *Dark Arisen* (which is basically base game + DLC), but that's not any real excuse since most base enemies in DD2 also existed in DD1, so they are clearly willing to repeat the enemy use from the first game. They're sitting on a trove of cool and unique enemy design, and yet 90% of enemies you fight are Goblins, Harpies, Wolves, Lizards and Bandits. If you travel by night, you increase the variety by adding the Undead. Yay.
I have a few other issues with the game, but they're comparably minor (among others, the dumbed-down armour system, as you've already mentioned) and nowhere near on the level of the awfully tiny enemy roster. But other than that, I do really like the game.

I just started it. Im five hours or so in. My initial thoughts are its fun. The graphics are awesome, the world is fun to explore. Very little enemy variety right now. But the combat is so good , that it doesn't really matter. I love the pawn system. Yea theyre a little annoying, but its actually kinda funny and adds to the game. It is kinda janky at times. But its just a fun game. But we'll see if it turns out to be an all time great. And itll be tough to beat FF7 rebirth..but im still early. And it is awesome so far. By no means perfect. But that doesn't really matter,it doesn't need to be. I love the no fast travel. I don't usually fast travel in games anyways . It's not like Skyrim, in some ways it is. It definitely has its own style and feel...not like Skyrim tho. Feels closer to witcher 3 than Skyrim...but its not witcher 3 either. I don't think itll be as good as Witcher 3. Nothing really is. But we'll see. I'm still early... but come on...five hours into witcher and you already knew it was epic. I don't think dragons dogma is on that level...but it is really fun so far. Im far enough to know its good, but also far enough to know its no witcher 3...not yet. And i don't think itll ever reach that level. But I'm having fun , and thats good enough. It has its own style. Which is awesome, it doesn't need to be perfect. I can tell ya now , the story is nothing compared to witcher 3. But games dont have to all be perfect masterpieces. People are to quick to put a GOTY label on a game. You have to play something, beat it. And then wait awhile to know how good it really is. It very well could end up one of my all time favorites. .. but right now im feeling that its a really good game, but not quite on the same level. And generally, my initial thoughts don't change. I knew witcher 3 was great from the beginning. I knew Skyrim was great from the beginning. Dragons dogma feel like it has the combat, but a subpar story.

micro is good specialy when a game is so perfectly complete why not give the devs a bonus and pic a cuple things you like wtf

  • @Blakobness
    @Blakobness 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

People really lost me when they got pissed about the micros in this game. Even some oldguard content creators I've watched for a long time, who I figured would have known better, were reacting to these microtransactions.
You don't need any of them, ever. The game isn't designed to incentivize you to buy them. The game is designed much the same way the previous game was, except fast travel options are even more plentiful; so there's never a reason you should buy a port crystal for real money. You likewise get Rift Crystals all over the place, even if your pawn isn't getting much work themselves; you will never feel the need to spend money for them, or to afford Metamorphosis. These micros are there for whales, who don't need great incentives to spend money in a game, who are looking to actually just minimize time playing it. If you put a button in a game that lets a player buy something with real money, even if they could easily get that thing through normal gameplay, there will be people who will buy it and you will increase the game income organically without having to modify your game to force these purchases. And if Capcom is utilizing this well, this means they're generating more revenue to fund content DLC.
Now after saying all this, I actually do have some issues with DD2. I disagree with the changes to classes, namely the split between Thief and Archer. They just feel a lot less engaging, which is obvious; you have half as many skills available. I think it's rather terrible, and that they should have tried to work it the other way to flesh out the other vocations and give them more options. We're also suffering from a severe lack of Hybrid classes. You get Magic Archer, and Magic Spear; and then there's Trickster out doing whatever. I don't even consider Warfarer as a vocation, it's just a reminder of what we lost from the previous game as to even use the vocation effectively you also have to give up one of your skills just to be able to swap the weapons. This is alleviated somewhat as you still get access to all the weapon's related vocation passives, but I'd still rather have good fleshed out vocations.
The story and the writing this time around also somehow feels worse than the original, which is surprising considering how janky and half-baked a lot of the story beats were. Some pieces of dialogue, like when you talk to Raghnall during the mission to escort the magistrate to Beast country. It felt like the writers weren't talking at all to the scene directors or whatever, it just felt like a really confusing conversation during that quest. Likewise the implementation of the Maister skills felt like it was never really finished at times. You would complete an introductory quest to that Maister and they would just give you the skill immediately. I think maybe the intent was for them to hand it over when you did their escort quest, after their intro quest, but it was scrapped so it was tacked onto the initial quest as a reward.
Talking about the escort quests now too, they can be a bit tedious, but less so in this game considering how common Wakestones are. But you're also seemingly rewarded with a lot less for doing them, it's almost always a bundle of flowers, which is next to worthless in actual functional use, as well as by the time you often get back to town, they've degraded. I still find myself doing them anyway, as I'll often be going that direction to begin with. The only other reason to consider it is for trophy hunting, you may want to do escorts to get 50 NPCs affection up; but you could also just use gifts.
You already covered the layered armor, it really felt bad seeing that announced, and reading the explanation which absolutely made no sense. The claim was made that players would gravitate to certain pieces anyway due to stats, when I'd have to say the complete opposite. In the original game I hardly ever considered armor values for what I equipped, it hardly mattered and you scaled well enough throughout the game as to not worry about armor even into Dark Arisen. I cared more about how much the gear weighed and the cosmetic versatility of the armor than it's actual defense value.
Despite all this negative stuff, the game is still genuinely great to play otherwise. The combat does generally feel more engaging despite also feeling more limiting. A lot of QOL was added, especially in the monster mounting that make it more enjoyable and less frustrating; like holding heavy attack to mount while striking instead of having to time grab during a jump. But for as much things the game improves on and makes a great experience, there's just as many things that make me disappointed. I waited so long and had a lot of hopes for this as a sequel, but for me it's a real mixed bag. I'll still enjoy it, but it could and should have been much better.

I do believe the combat is masterfully done but: the story, the storytelling, the npcs character, the npcs design, the nocs expeession, the teeth, the smiling faces, the affinity creepy smiles/blushing, the low difficulty, the optimization, the lack of ng+ scaling, itemization just from vendors.. are all horribly done and thats the reason dd2 is nowhere near its potential right now, maybe with updates many things will improve, but the story and the npcs boringness will remain the same.

  • @derektodd6650
    @derektodd6650 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    18:35: "why is x mtx okay but dd2 isn't?"
Because its a singleplayer rpg sold to a demographic that's been playing ARPGs like Elden Ring & TTRPGs (or CRPGs) like Baldur's Gate 3. Both never released with MTX. This is a false equivalency that assumes every singleplayer rpg fan has somehow bought every Capcom game and is somehow okay with all their MTX releases.
Negative reviews can be seen as legitimate product reviews or consumer boycotts. How many indie games were caught in the Sweet Baby Inc debacle due to their inclusion of that consultancy agency? Why is that form of negative review okay but its "review bombing" when its DD2? See, I can make strawmans too.

One thing that puzzles me is that just about everyone who has certifiably played this game absolutely adores it, while there's still so much raw hatred for it from people who claim to have played it, but very clearly haven't as there's just dead giveaways that they're lying about it like the soundtracks all being the same or microtransactions being egregious. Like, why are these people so hellbent on keeping this game from success? Keeping others from playing? They haven't even tried it. And if it's on principle, then why not the few hundred games that did far worse than this one that have come out in the past few years? Why this game specifically?
It seems it's just human nature to want to keep the underdog down. Glad to see that DD2 already sold 3M copies.

This game sucks, the map is 3 times bigger than the 2012 title but the variety of enemies is absurd, there are like 7 mini bosses: cyclops, dragon, minotaur, manticore, griffin and ogre, the duhallan is so rare that you even get an achievement when it appears, they removed the beholder, cockatrice and hydra; they criticized the caves and tombs of Elden ring for recycling bosses, but their bestiary is like day and night

i wish i enjoyed it as much as you. In comparison to the first games Dark Arisen version, i found 2 to be GREVIOUSLY lacking in basically every category besides polish. Travelling through the world is agonizing, as you encounter the same 3 enemies actually literally every 15 seconds which are boring to fight, there's nothing interesting to find in the world with all loot being usually generic consumables or garbage armor you can find in the shop, every dungeon is a cave so generic they feel randomly generated with, if you're LUCKY, a single ogre when you already see the things constantly, and you almost never see any of the monsters that actually are any fun at all to fight. And there is NOTHING to do in the endgame.
It's polished to hell and back, i can give it that. But it's so much worse than the original game, the entire game was a complete waste of my time and excitement. 3/10 and it breaks my heart this game ended up being such a substanceless waste of resources.

Dd2 is fun but it has alot of issues. Most clearly caused by greedy corporatism who didnt learn from Elden ring and BG3s success. It coulda won GOTY. But instead they opted for cutting part of the game out to sell as future DLC and rushing the product. Greedy corporate owned titles have no idea how to release a full and satisfying game anymore. And we the gamers are the ones suffering. Its very clear the future dlc will be quick and cash grabby filling out the parts that they should have originally included.

(Edited the 1st comment to better convey what I meant by "DLC".)
I'm talking about the inevitable DLC content that will come in a few months when the initial hype dies so they can revive it and make more money to fix/complete the game that should/could have had the DLC already in it. Almost every AAA game has followed this model for a long time. Gotta pay twice to get the true full game.
Tis why I praise Dark souls and Elden Ring so often. Sure they have awesome DLC but the game didn't have to have it. They are full in themselves. Old games like.Legend of Legaia and Legend of dragoon. The resident evil games. The Witcher 3. I could go allllll day especially with old games. But that's why those games were so amazing. They didn't sell you 7/10ths of the game and then wait a few months to sell you the rest of it... it's a broken model that hurts brilliant games and hurts the consumer. When in reality the corporation would probably make as much or more money if the game was perfectly as its supposed to be on launch.. again look at elden ring and bg3. AMAZING launches and they made so much more money because of the model they decided to follow.
