Hey quick question. Unfortunately I am at work and couldn't listen with volume on. Will this work on all types of drapes or just sheers. Secondly - I noticed how high you hung your drapes. Does this make the ceilings look higher or why do you hang them so high :) Thank you so very much!
Just tried this on living room curtains and am thrilled by how simple this is ! Been sewing for 60 years and this method is great. Your idea of moving the ironing board to the curtains so they can stay hanging is the best -- you made a project so fast and simple. Bless you !
Use the piece of fabric that you cut off to test the heat setting on the iron. Be sure that the heat you use will be high enough to make the tape adhere the 2 sides of the fabric together. Sometimes, the heat you need to make the tape work is too high for the fabric you have- so be careful and test first if possible. ALSO- this tape comes in different grades for different fabrics: th-cam.com/video/CvIuzJq0wLo/w-d-xo.html
Love this tutorial and found it helpful! I have a suggestion. If you find that the length of your curtains is uneven, instead of cutting off the amount needed minus 2 inches, just measure 2 inches from the fold where you want your finished length to be. That will give you the same 1 inch hem by folding up one inch and then folding up the 2nd inch which will be at the finished length measurement of your hem.
Hi Christina, this is a fine video and I especially appreciate the no-sew hemming tutorial. Regarding the height of curtains and rods, I choose to hang curtains depending on the variables I'm working with. These variables include the length of the curtains themselves, what look I want to achieve, any privacy concern, and what light I have to work with. For example, in my living room our windows face the next door neighbor's bedroom windows. Plus, our long and narrow windows don't get a lot of light through the course of the day. So, I chose to hang the rods/curtains about a quarter of the way down the window, to allow light through the top. I actually hung H&M table runners as the curtains (two per window), as they turned out to be the perfect length and width for the windows. As a result, we get light, privacy, and unique window treatments all in one.
Although your intro was a bit too long, your your tips on how to measure the hem was much appreciated! Regardless if using no sew tape or if you choose to sew, the "minus 2" trick" is what I needed to know how to do! Thank you so much!😘
NO Offense to Any One But the “ Puddling “ look unkept to me . Just above the floor or molding looks so much neater & gives balance to the window and room. Just me.
thank you!! my roommate and i were in search fro the perfect curtains in our room but all our options were too long! now we can buy our fav curtains and hem them ourselves :)
Thank you SO MUCH!!!! I've been scratching my head trying to find a way to alter my voile curtains without the expense of a seamstress. Love your other videos by the way. Count me in as subscribed!!
I bought my curtains from Ikea as well! Right now the Majgull blackout curtains I have up are too long (same length as Vivan) and your tutorial intrigued me. But I'm a bit apprehensive about actually cutting the fabric. Since the Majgull was kinda pricey for me and felt expensive. :(
I love hanging them high and I don't leave too much at the bottom. They tend to get dirty faster that way in my home, not to mention, they can get trapped underfoot or vacuum . We also have dogs, so I keep the windows with just the shutters and no curtains on the main floor. Only place them upstairs. You have a lovely home. So bright and airy! Love your style. TFW, hugs ~ Josie :)
You are making me want to go out and buy an ironing board for all the curtains I need to hang in our house! I also like to hang my rods up close to the ceiling, hang my drapes, and then "guess-timate" what length I want before I cut/hem. Ikea curtains are the best deal... also because they are super long and I like them to pool on the floor. :)
I want to make curtains for a boat. Each port curtain will be 12" x 4'. If I tape hem the top, is the tape strong enough to hold the short fabric. Thank you, I learned a lot.
You inspired me to change my curtains. I struggle with short length. I can’t put a rod as you suggested, one window has an arch window above and the other has a vaulted ceiling 😒 I know. But I can make them longer so that’s what I’m going to do. I always said I can iron them but felt flustered in how. Thank you!
I doubt this will work on insulated or sun blocking drapes that have more than one thin layer of material. Is there a method for these layered curtains?
reckon this technique could be used to create a rod pocket on the bottom? im hanging a curtain over a door window but the window is shorter that most so no curtain bought at a store will fit it, and i want a rod pocket at the bottom or some other kind of anchoring device so it doest flap around when i use the door.
I'm getting ready to redo our bedroom windows. Thank you for the advise never really thought of hanging them high but it does make since. Great tutorial. You and your family have a wonderful Thursday.
Thank you. Plan to try this. You say you like hanging your curtains up close to ceiling, but would you when you have a window with a half moon window above it?
The issue I’m having is that my sheer curtains can only take a cool iron and my fusible webbing needs something warmer and steam. I’m getting frustrated. I do like how you leave the curtains on the rod!! I think I’m going to shorten from the top though. Thanks for the ideas.
Did you find that the curtain was shorter on the left and right edges of the curtain? Mine are slightly shorter there and makes it weird to make things all even!
I got confused with the double folding the bottom.... 1 inch & then 1 more inch up.... why do that if ultimately you only folded one inch up at the end? Did I miss something lol.
She needed to take off 10 inches. She cut off 8 Inches. (8 inches gone). She folded up 1 inch of the length (9 inches gone). Then she folded up another inch of the length (10 inches gone). If you were shortening thick heavy curtains buy 10-in. You could cut off 9 inches (9 inches gone). Then just fold-up 1 inch only (10 inches gone)
Nice vidio I do a lot of sewing I would do a higher or wider hem I should say to me it looks nicer but that is my preference the bottom and top should be 4.5 in the side him should be about 1 to 1.5 in this is my method I use when I make or when I do altorations but thanks for a nice vidio and sharing your method
Well, curtains are not used for decor reasons in Greece, which is why we keep them closed ,thus decorating the wall, not just framing the window!Too much sunshine for windows like yours😜
Again that is a personal preference. I like to be able to see out my windows. I like to let in light. So if wall space will allow, I hang the curtains rods wide enough that when the curtains are all the way open they will stack back on the wall exposing the entire window. The curtain would just cover the wall to the outside edge of the curtain. Then when the curtain is closed it could appear that the window is about twice the size of the the actual window. The amount of space needed for the stack back depends on the fabric (a heavy fabric that is bulky will need more space than a light weight curtain) and the fullness of the drape (1.5 to 2 times the width of the window, but 2.5 to 3 times is sometimes used when the curtain is more sheer and more privacy is desired.) Don't forget to calculate the stack back area in that width as it will need to be evenly covered just like the window when the drapes are closed.
Happy Wednesday! Hope you find these curtain tips helpful. How do you hem your drapes?
The DIY Mommy I also use that hemming tape in the U.k. we call it Wonderweb!
Sophisticated Momma making a note of the brand. 😊

That's exactly what I was thinking before doing this.😊
Excelllent tutorial! Thank you. I especially think bringing the ironing board TO THE DRAPES is awesome!
Just trimmed my curtains using this DIY method and it turned out great!!

SSG Great points, and the table runner idea is so creative! Thanks for sharing.
Didn't help me I need to have my up so much at bottom cause I have a baseboard heater at floor under them I can't do any of that stuff

I'm offended
I agree. Not to mention the amount of dirt they would collect off the floor
I agree. Just above the baseboards is perfect
Not to mention the cat and dog fur on the floor

Just come across this tutorial! I love it and it’s a great way to hem curtains. Awesome idea!❤
They look really good. The last curtains that I made were out of a dropcloth, Took me a little bit to make them look right.
I don’t hem because I can’t sew. But I think I can definitely do this. Thanks for sharing and I love these tips. Happy Wednesday!💁🏼
Thank you so much! I followed your well explained instructions and I’m so pleased! I really appreciate it.

Thanks for this, I will be doing combination tape and sawing, not sure how tapes will behave in the long run.
Hi! Do this hold up when washing again?

What do you mean? Don't you have an ironing board anyway? If not, 🙌🙌🙌😁
hello! great tip, thanks :) I wanted to ask you if it has any problem in washing, e.g. the glue is destroyed or something like that
Thanks for the tip. You just saved me so much time and money!! :)
Loved the video!
OMG! This is just what i needed. But i have question. If we wash the curtains, would the tape come off?
I want to make curtains for a boat. Each port curtain will be 12" x 4'. If I tape hem the top, is the tape strong enough to hold the short fabric. Thank you, I learned a lot.
I love it! That is saving me a lot of money!

Definitely going to do this with my living room sheers! Thank you!
Can you wash them after using this method?
I’m going to try hemming my new curtains using this method. Would this work with thicker curtains and what do you do if there is lining?
Great tip and instructions, thanks so much!

Nice drapes...hanging them higher looks great 👍
Sophisticated Momma Thanks! I love how it enlarges the space.
Amazing. Very helpful!
Thank you. Plan to try this. You say you like hanging your curtains up close to ceiling, but would you when you have a window with a half moon window above it?
Would this no sew hem technique work on very sheer lightweight fabric?
Great tutorial
I've never used the fusible webbing before, but it looks so super easy!
Do you have any tips for what to do if your radiator is under your window/curtains??
Thank you, this was so easy!
Can you do this with velvet drapes?
Thank you
Love the idea
I am definitely trying this
Hi do you have to cut? Or can you paste the tape to the desired height and iron?
I cut, here are written directions - sometimes they're a bit easier to follow! thediymommy.com/how-to-hang-hem-drapes-no-sew-method/
Awesome video thank you so much
Will this work on thicker curtains?
Would this hem work with heavier drapes ?
The issue I’m having is that my sheer curtains can only take a cool iron and my fusible webbing needs something warmer and steam. I’m getting frustrated. I do like how you leave the curtains on the rod!! I think I’m going to shorten from the top though. Thanks for the ideas.
I know it's late.....but, you could have used a moist thin towel over fabric that can't take much heat.
@@thefamily730 It might have been too late for her - but you saved me today! Thanks for the hot tip.
Great! I am glad. God bless!
Hi whats the name of the hand tape please thank u for sharing thing
Christina great DIY tips. Your drapes look beautiful in your little white studio. Thank you for sharing. God bless!!!👍👏
I am deffinately going to use this method! We are getting ready to move to our new home. I plan to get burlap, birdseye, or floursack curtains♡
You are so super talented. As always. Another great video
Great video! Can you make a video on using flat sheets as curtains?
Rox R Good idea! You could simply hang them with ring clips like I did here: th-cam.com/video/DRT-kaGH1KM/w-d-xo.html
Love this! Thanks!
Does the tape stay on after washing the curtains?
I'm having a time trying to find fabic in large plaid. Looking for navy and white. Or black n white.
Check amazon or fabric.com
The DIY Mommy I didn't think of Amazon. Thank you💛
So helpful! I need to try this! Thank you 💗
I love curtains💖
Rocking Cady Me too!
Did you find that the curtain was shorter on the left and right edges of the curtain? Mine are slightly shorter there and makes it weird to make things all even!
4:00 for instructional portion
Will this method work on heavier fabric?
It should!
Can you hem 8 inches using this 1 inch heat and bond tape?
Sure! Just make the first fold 3/4" wide and the second one 7 1/4"
Love this technique.
I was wondering why I hated my drapes so much. I need to hang them way higher than I have. Thanks for the tip.
Video starts at 3:23
I could watch your videos all day!

brilliant! thank you :)
Thank you. Definitely trying this method!
Is the glue removable?

Gloria Desousa Yes, I also like to do a thicker hem when I'm sewing, but I find this one works best for hem tape. Thank you!
Does this work with thicker curtains?
I've never tried it with thicker ones - sorry!

Is that "ikea vivan" curtains? 😊
Yes!
I BOUTA DO IT
Won't the hem fall apart when you put the drapes in the dryer? I had that happen to a pair of pants and was discouraged from using them tape again.
I’m terrible at measuring 🤦🏾♀️
I also buy net from ikea and want to make with plot
