    Those who are trying to do this in 2019 or 2020 by importing the package in unity and not getting animations here's how I solved the problem
    1. Right click on player and show in explorer
    2. Open the .blend file in blender 2.8 (I used blender 2.8 idk if it will work for other versions)
    3. File > Export > as .fbx
    I didn't needed to check any boxes or anything, Then blender exported the fbx in same folder and I got all the animations with it inside unity

    Just posting this for anyone else having the same issue that I had:
    If you can't press the "Configure" button at 0:50 because it's greyed out, even after you've hit "Apply,"
    just change some of the settings in that area, then hit "Revert"
    for me, once I reverted, it allowed me to press "Configure."

    This is a really helpful tutorial. If you want more animations besides just the running one, though, there's a place called Mixamo where you can download them. I watched this tutorial a year ago and I didn't use advanced animations because I couldn't find any and I didn't want to have to make my own. Anyways, if there any versions of my past self out there wondering the same thing, I hope this helps!

    Just a note for people who run into this problem. Do NOT create the PlayerAnimator script in the script folder. Make sure it is made inside of the Assets project hub. Otherwise it'll throw an error that the parameter SpeedPercent does not exist.

    In case anyone's having trouble around 3:05 - In 2018.3.5f1, I could not see the Motion fields right away;. You have to click on the Blend Tree node in the main window and then the correct fields show up in the Inspector. (It looks like it went there automatically in the version Sebastian is using, which is why I got a bit confused!)

      Solution from someone else:
      - Solution to issue importing the player animations-
      When you import the player to your assets, double click the player to open the file in blender.
      Once in blender, go to file -> export -> .fbx and you need to make sure the checkbox "All Actions" is selected. You can find that checbox on the right menu, at the bottom is a dropdown called "Bake Animations".
      Import that file on your project and you're ready to go :)

      @leknubb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@retroman7581 thanks for the reply. I saw that comment as well, but when I open with blender and go to export the file as fbx, the all actions option is already checked. I exported the file anyway, and I can finally configure it in unity but the only animation I can see is the one for scene. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, thanks anyway. :)

    If your animations won't play, try making sure that
    1. The parameter (in the animation component) and variable (in the code) names are not different (like "SpeedPercent" and "speedPercent", don't put any spaces in)
    2. There's no spaces in the name of your script
    3. The character model is under the Player, and the model is in the Avatar slot of the Animator component...
    4. ...and the Animator component is directly on the model, and the Animator isn't on Player or Player Graphics

    If any of you have a problem with the fact that the object Player does not have component Animator, but have Nav Mesh Agent and Player graphic have only Animator. You can fix it, aatached script CharacterAnimator to player and change one line in start method.
    Instead of animator = GetComponent(); , insert
    animator = transform.GetChild(0).GetComponent();
    This way you get the transform of the first (zero in number) child of the object Player => Player Graphic. Just keep in mind the object Player graphic then must always be the first (null) child otherwise you will get an error.

    quick check here for anyone who use maya instead of blender(I think that's why I have problems with import and everything)...I use maya and I can't load .blender file in Unity even after I downloaded blender for some reasons. When I tried to load .blender file, a maya output window pop out and doing nothing basically(at least for 2 hours). My solution is just using python to unzip the player.unitypackage, then opening the file using blender(free to download). And then I output the file as .fbx. It gives me a .obj file, which works fine when I import it. Then I follow the instruction of Sebastian, but the animation was not working properly. Idle was fine. However, when the avatar runs, it was floating with its leg spilt. Then I found out that I should toggle the loop time in the animation. Then it works.

    • @monkeysaur4305
      @monkeysaur4305 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply! I have tried this and it helped a bit, but my character still moves a fair distance while changing direction, having played with it a bit I think it might need extra animations for what I want to achieve which is a more sharp turn around, so the model begins facing the direction he intends to move in before he starts running, but I think it might need some kind of sharp turnaround animation for when changing direction >90.
      I have also noticed that my player never actually arrives exactly where I clicked, there is a small "buffer" so the player goes to a point which is slightly above my curser and the "hit.point". My player character is zero'd to the parent object so there is no offset problem there, any idea why it's slightly off target? It's not a massive deal but am I making a slight mistake if that's happening or is it normal?
      Thanks again!

      If your character's turning radius is too wide, like if you press to move into the opposite direction and they take a very wide turn, ensure your player shape(?) , that box with the circle inside it we set up in E01, is still inside your GFX. I had to reposition it, and it fixed the wide turning radius.

    When I import my character and go into the Configuration there are green beams coming out of the hands and pelvis that are stuck in the center of the ground in between the characters legs also both the lower arm, upper arm and shoulders are red. When I force the T-pose the fore arms and hands are drawn towards that same spot and completely messes up my mesh. Any ideas?

    I have been following along with the playlist for creating the character blender model and the animations. but in my unity project my character moves with wasd and not with clicking the mouse button. So I do not have a nav mesh agent. I am trying to set the speedPercent correctly so the animation doesn't start until I press the buttons to move. When I currently hit play the animation starts right away while my character is in place before I use wasd to start moving around. Can anyone help?

      All the classes and namespaces from Unity Scripting API are already referenced in the .csproj settings. I think your problem is coming from opening single file instead of projects. If you are using VS it should open when opening .cs files, but otherwise just double click the .csproj file in the Windows Explorer.

    First of all, this playlist is great! I'm learning so much. I have a slight issue with the character's movement, though. When pressing play to test it in play mode, the character's hands and legs seems to be pretty shaky (maybe jittery is a better name for it) during movement. • @SebastianLague

      If you created the animation after importing the blend file to Unity then it won't be there by default. You'll have to select your model asset and go into the animation settings window, and there press the plus icon at the bottom of the clips list to add a new animation. With that clip selected, go into the 'Source Take' dropdown and select your pickup animation. Then apply.

      Try debugging.
      Put this in your Character Animator script, under update.
      if (agent.velocity.magnitude > 0)
      {
      Debug.Log("Agent is moving");
      } else
      {
      Debug.Log("Agent stopped.");
      }
      This is to make sure the velocity is being set right.
      Comment that code out once you have it figured out.
      For example, if you were to control your character through the movement keys instead of following the tutorial, the velocity would never update, the character would never even animate because the character is not being given a velocity.
      Also, I would check that your animations work properly in the first place, go to the player graphic and view the animations under him.
      Press play to press the animation.
      Chances are the mistakes were made when you imported the blend file, so just following this tutorial again and re-importing will help.
