BOC are just impeccable in their delivery. There is a haunting, comforting nostalgia or deja vu-esque feeling and sound that they just exude. I love the beauty they create.
Great stuff, these guys! I first got on to them off of an Ambient channel on the old AOL radio, circa 2005. I've been very pleased to find some of their material surfacing as "bumper music" on Adult Swim. It's not a genre for all, but I hope more people discover their talent
This is my childhood. Nursery days, watching the Mole cartoons in class and many other NFB sponsored animations. Alot of Canadians don't remember these early synths as children, it was brainwashed away with corporate radio brainwash rock and other sounds. It was an artist Government sponsored initiative to spread a new culture in Canada when these sounds were new; just so happened the classic synths were being made at the time as well. Some people made sounds.
reminds me of being around 15-16 in summertime canada sub urbs late at night when adults asleep chilling walking from friend house to friend house smoking weed and drinking whatever we can salvage from our folks listening to obscure underground music thinking those vibes would last forever towards our adulthood and beyond but sadly I never got those vibes back even after buying all those treasured albums on vinyl and becoming an artist something I always wanted chasing the beast trying to find that peace again as if it has never existed.
Today I realized that I hadn't listened to boards for about 8 months when this showed up in the list. i clicked on it and it's like putting on an old favourite comfy sweater you found in the back of your closet. these guys (along with Autechre and RDJ) will forever be my electronic faves.
I'm 31 and I know, I should have picked my favourite band of all time by now. But I'm pretty sure Boards of Canada are it. How I went about 25 of years of my life never hearing these....
I've been listening to BoC for well over 15 years, and it still hits me so hard every time. Right in the feels. The soundtrack to my brief time here on Earth. It gives me a happy/sad feeling all at once.
reminds me of driving on the #1 hwy between abbotsford and fort langley in my boyfriends convertible vw rabbit smoking vanilla primetime cigarettes and feeling so satisfied in those moments
I hear and read all the time, do what you love. What do you do when you don't know what you love? BOC is a place that helps you figure out what you love.
Yummmmmm! I love all these comments with stories. For me this takes me right back to raving days adventures wandering wild with groups of friends meeting so many people having conversations solely through dancing hopping from after party to after party. So beautiful happy happy
Excellent work mate, love this mix. Good luck with whatever your life turns out to be like. I love you, and everyone else here who's looking for whatever it is.
This mix makes me so happy. Stumbled on it by accident and I'm so glad you didn't start with generic BoC sounds, but with the more obscure stuff that's so much better. I'm at the third song and so far this is exactly how I'd make the mix as well. Thank you!
Bulgaria is at the center of the world, everything left from it is west world, right eastern world, down south and up north . This is true in physical and spiritual space as well, the physical is just a lower spiritual where the true power of the place is weakly felt. I personally love the most far away places which are beyond all imaginary place far, far away, they are so deep that being there makes me fall in love with the feeling they give, living there is total peace, nothing living near at all, only me totally alone floating.
and bulgaria is beautiful, but the people fuck it up... just the way what happens with the whole world.. thus i personally love the places far away from many people... this bulgarian comparisons fit so well, thanks for that
Old school ambient!! Te hace una persona muy inteligente y visualizas muy profundo cada decisión de tu vida eres alguien mas avanzado alguien mas humano y con una conciencia de armonía universal y cósmica 🎶 🎶 🌍 🌌 galaxias en contacto
Having human voices in the background adds to the sad, haunting, quality to this music, especially when you realize that a hundred years from now, they will most likely be all dead.
I don't think that kind of edgy nihlism is what this kind of music is trying to convey. To me it's entirely the opposite; tranquility, introspection, hope and acceptance. At least that's what good music should bring to the table and this most certainly does for me.
I think this band and experimental artists who make darker stuff hit me the hardest in winter of 2016 when I lived in Everett, WA alone in an apartment with a fireplace and a porch.
I started listening to BOC in the fall in North Carolina, my room had a porch looking out into a deep forest and everything was going to sleep. People have since cut down the forest, my only real home.
Nice work. That's about the speed you should be going at for now. When he can sing twinkle little star together with you then let the little star twinkle. My father knocked me unconscious with his bagpipes at that age which may explain some of my behavior later in life. I like loud stuff like drag races.
I'm noticing a distinct lack of Music Has the Right to Children, which is undeniably their best album. And there's no Geogaddi, that has some highlights too.
reminds me of being around 15 and walking in a field and being abducted by aliens. they took me on their ship and were very cordial and friendly and showed me how to fly the ship. then they landed me safely near my home and bode me a fond farewell.
Yes. 2 years at a Buddhist monastery in VA. Thai Forest tradition in the lineage of Lungta Maha Boowa. This was the real deal Buddhist meditation bootcamp on 300+ acres backed up to the George Washington Natl. Forest. I regularly was driving the monks cross state to Dr appointments, Visa stuff, or meetings with other monks. I'd get hit with this huge sadness on those drives because I couldn't listen to music. So I'd think of this band and listen to the ambient droning of the minivan wheels on pavement. A year later I moved to NorCal and lived at an Eastern Catholic monastery for 8 months. My take away was this: having peace within is the goal. Try your best to find it, even if that means letting go of what you WANT.. Peace is what you NEED. I was a monk for only 2 months** Still discerning if God really is asking me to make music. Taking care of mental health in the meantime... As my 4track and rack-mount power amp falls out the trunk of my car onto the road as I pull into the hospital parking lot.. as I've seen: when God wants you to have music gear He will provide in the most amazing ways.
No, they're just arpeggiations. ST having twice as many, and it's ascending and descending. Some of the notes are the same though, but they're very common.
Ads punctuating ambient music should be illegal.
Just use BRAVE browser. I never see any ads on youtube.
not installing adblock on every device should be the more illegal thing.
It's gonna 2019 and adblock has existed for far too long. This isn't a complaint this is an intelligence marker.
Get you a raspberry pi running pihole on your network. It blocks adservers completely. It's a super fuck you to the advertisers
some advertisers doesnt want to harass you tho: carbon ads is an example.
BOC are just impeccable in their delivery. There is a haunting, comforting nostalgia or deja vu-esque feeling and sound that they just exude.

nice summary of the BOC backstory - brainwashed away, along with the social-democratic ethos that went with it
Oh wow thanks for this comment. I learn new stuff every day!
