Love this idea but I am having trouble actually working out how to put something on the pop up - do you have any photos of a finished card using this please. the arms on mine want to fold at right angles - not to the top.
Sorry to hear yours doesn't work. All I can really suggest is that you try making it again and pay special attention tol where you make the diagonal folds. You can see the arrangement of folds pretty clearly from about 4.04. When it comes to adding things - extra pieces can jut down below the arms but not above them.

I would just love to see where you put say a FACE - that part seems to be inverted - thats why I was asking did you have a card that you have made with something STUCK to the pop up. I am trying with a frog - but the part that pops out is more his tummy and his face is inverted in the hollow.
You could extend the top and then cut out a wedge to shape it (Tutorial 13). Or - again you could extend the top section a bit and add an extra fold so that the head goes back more (tutorial 8 at 7.45)..
Can this technique be used on birds too who open their wings? Im not good with math but I try to recreate a bird who opens its wings open when book is opened

This has been very informative. It's taught me alot. Do you have any tutorials on how to attach 3d kirigami pieces? I love assembling them but don't know how to attach them so they unfold properly
Kirigami is a complex form of Counter-Fold (Tutorial 22). Attaching extra pieces to a pop-up is looked at in Tutorial 8. Attaching 3D Kirigami pieces to a pop-up should be easy just make sure that the central crease of the Kirigami piece is built right tight into one of the gullies on the pop-up. Make sure you understand which way the gully is going to go when the pop-up base is closed - some gullies fold closed (these are the ones to build into), some fold out flat (obviously these are the ones that won't work).

I think you could use it to make a bird - Best to just try it. The design can't extend above the top of the "arms" but it can extend below them.
