As the clock ticks constantly, stretching the future far ahead of us and more and more and more art is created, our children's children will not have time to experience all of it. Therefore, only the best of the best will be remembered and revered. I feel comforted knowing Shawn will no doubt be in that collection.
Good lord, this song makes me weep. Literally. It reminds me of a relastionship I had in 1993 when I was young. I liked being young in New York City. I liked being young.
Kudos to Larry Klein (bass) & Steuart Smith (guitar) for complementing Shawn exceptionally well on this stunning performance. LOVE IT! Oh, and Shawn is sublime perfection, as usual!
I've been a fan of Shawn's since seeing her on a "Hitchhiker's Music Special" singing from her first album with dyed black hair. But this W54th recording is the absolute best, and having heard this and "Diamonds in the Rough" I would just LOVE to get a copy of the whole show. The whole band is so tight and well-recorded that I would cherish it immensely. That bass is a whole special dimension that we can't get out of her solo performances, and Steuart is the Accent Master.
What an incredibly good live sound! As people have already said, Kudos to the musicians. But I would like to add the person and people handling the sound board and recording deserve some praise.
Perfect melancholy song. This performance is amazing. When you listen to the base, slide guitar as individuals performances, they enhance with such subtle nuances that just fit together. The timing of each instrument fills into Shawn's vocals and guitar playing. The mix is perfect. Everything is at the correct volume level and trio compliment each other perfectly. Feel like a nice pair of well worn jeans. Like a glove!!!
I've always found Shawn Colvin to be an absolute first class top of the line folk singer and top notch folk guitarist. Her phrasing and beautiful-beautiful choice of chords make her extremely special in my opinion. Shawn is unique (in a very good way) just like I find Leo Kottke to be extremely unique (also in a very good way). I would recognize Shawn Colvin's music just like I would recognize Leo Kottke's music immediately. I know that their styles are very different, but I still put them in the wonderful Folk Music categories...and Leo's guitar playing is just on another level. I find Shawn's guitar music to be deep, dark, rich, and just beautiful (to the point of inducing goosebumps), and I can think of no higher compliment to give her. I miss both of the aforementioned artist, although (as far as I know, they are both still with us), I wonder what they are doing musically these days. I believe both of these two musicians are too very-very special to just fade away.
So many fine versions & this is another shining example of just how good she is. Just like her performance of this with Buddy Miller it's breathtakingly good.
I saw her in London at the Jazz Cafe, donkeys years ago, and she was almost drowned out by drinkers at the bar. Probably only 300 there. Commentators saying about the bass player, is it a musician thing? Because you could take him out and I wouldn't even notice. Just Shawn and the other guitarist is all thats needed.

I heard she was having a hard time living among mortals wish I could tell it will get better but we won’t so she’ll just have to pretend she doesn’t mind.
I come back to this again and again! It's pretty perfect!

Of all the bands, individuals that I have had the pleasure of seeing live, I thank Mother Earth the most for Shawn Colvin. Damn what a talent ❤❤❤

I love this song. I remember buying the cassette when the album came out and playing it over and over until the tape snapped.
This song is MONUMENTAL! It’s freakingly beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌷💗🙏
I’m so glad to be alive at the same time as Shawn Colvin
Absolutely beautiful
As soon as Shawn's plays those notes and her voice starts, the world is a better place
Love this
Wow..now this is musical storytelling. What a 😅performance. Masterfully done. Bravo.
The poetry alone is next level.
Saw her in London's Jazz Cafe back in the day - the clarity of her voice and her own guitar was just as brilliant
Colvin's control of her guitar patterns is equally as good as her fellow musicians, the great Klein and Smith.
What a version of this song! The bass playing is extraordinary as is the guitar accompaniment!
Oh the memories. Love this woman's voice and songs. Wonderful 💞
Magic bass playing!
Steuart Smith 's playing is sublime...just incredible!!!!
Seen and met Shawn several times. I love her
First saw Shawn in 1989 at Chautauqua Auditorium in Boulder Colorado. One of those nights you never forget...

The 90's female singer songwriter era was awesome!!

A voice like an angel.
Seeing her in concert is on my post-COVID list of things to do. I just ordered two of her more recent albums.
The sweetest voice. 90s Joni
I caught the magic of the music.
I foolishly looked to see if she would be playing anywhere near me. (It's covid time, you know). May it happen soon!

My goodness, I love this song...and I love this beautiful lady🤗🥰!!!
I didn't think a live version of this song could trump (oh, let me use a different word...) um improve on the studio version, but I was wrong. Bravo!
"Lace from your wedding dress!" Yes such a proud thought of my mom.
Your voice heals me. 謝謝。💖
A jewel.
Love this song. The last verse kills me.
Such a gorgeous, distinctive voice.
Timeless.
Perfect song by great artist ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Are you kidding? The bass is a great compliment to her voice/the lead guitar--this song is just perfection.
And I was at the taping. She’s incredible. And Steuart Smith… bionic guitartist
Lovely version of a beautiful song!

Whatever happened to the Singer Songwriters in America?

Leaps and bounds better than Morrisette!
I fell in love with this song after watching Heartbreakers movie.
