Making a Rose Gold Ring from Scratch

  • Today's ring is a solid Rose Gold Ring from scratch. Patrick starts with pure gold, silver, and copper. He then weighs it to make sure he has the perfect mixture for this rose gold alloy. Once these are weighed he melts them to a liquid. He then pours the liquid into a graphite mold to make a small bar. The bar is stretched into a thinner wire using a jewelry roller. This straight piece is then hammered into a circle over a bar. I trim off the excess rose gold and use the Orion Laser Welder to close the circle. Then I sand and polish it leaving a beautiful Rose Gold Ring.

    When you laser weld like that aren’t you only welding the surface of the ring and not through to the center? I imagine it would crack at the joint if enough pressure was applied to it.

    • @PatrickAdairDesigns
      @PatrickAdairDesigns  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It’s hard to see, but if you look close you’ll notice I start with the rose gold filler wire in the center of the ring below the surface and build my way up from there. That way it’s solid all the way through.

    Hey Patrick, do you still have this ring in particular? Because I wanna ask if it hasn’t corroded, caused by “galvanic corrosion”.
    This occurs when a base metal like copper is “connected” to a noble metal like gold and silver in presence of an electrolyte like water o sweat, specially in rings.
