Kevin Olusola, the beatboxer, is an overachiever. He graduated with a pre-med degree from Yale, speaks five languages including Chinese Mandarin (fluently), plays concert-level cello and performed at 17 on his sax in Carnegie Hall. Oh yeah, and he both sings and beatboxes like a demon with Pentatonix, where he's won 3 Grammy awards. So far.
On top of all that, he's also just a genuinely Nice guy! I met them years ago they where all present and nice but Kevin man. He jumped up shook hands, you engaged with every one and was like locked in.
They're what's called an A Capella group where their voices are the instruments; they've been around for a hot minute, and they're one of the few groups to give the genre more life.
I’ve seen them in concert 9 times. They are 100% the real deal. They sound even better live! They’ve also won 3 Grammy’s so far and most of us anticipate they should win another one next year for The Prayer. You should check it out
The gentleman with the beatbox is truly amazing in a harmony between all the other singers is phenomenal they are truly amazing and I keep freaking out that is a cappella everything is coming out their voice I am freaking impressed they are one of a kind they are the best ever for real
Welcome to the A Capella world of PTX. Next up to react: The Prayer Imagine The sound of silence Hallelujah I just called to say I love you Havana Coffee in bed Bohemian rapsody Can you feel the love tonight Dance of the sugar plam fairy And all of their Christmas music Welcome to the PTX rabbit eargasm musical hole
"Please don't let this be trash..." Oh, I started to laugh so hard at that. One thing us Pentaholics adore is finding someone who's never seen them before react to them. Looking over your playlist I didn't see much in the way of familiar names, but then, I'm a 70-year-old white woman so our interests probably don't overlap much. :D Even so, if you spend a little time in their catalog of songs you're bound to run across something that you'll like. Most of us feel they can't put a foot wrong. And they have something from many categories of music, from Rap to Gospel, with a near total ownership of christmas music. They do a lot of covers (we call them "upgrades") but they also have at least two albums full of original music, "Pentatonix (Deluxe version)" and "The Lucky Ones," plus a scattering of originals on some of their other albums. And I see you've just posted a new reaction to "Shallow" about 2 hours ago - so I'm off to see how you like it. :)
I will definitely be here for more Pentatonix. The three time Grammy Awards winning group. Pentaholics love seeing new people enjoying their remarkable music.
The word you are looking for is ACAPELLA. This group is one of the best in the world. Three Grammy Awards and world wide acclaim can't be wrong. Love this video with all of this great music. Brings back so many memories of the 90's....
Pentatonix (PTX for short) is generally agreed to be the #1 a cappella band in the world for a while now. They have 3 Grammys & sell out concerts around the world. They are excellent at doing covers of songs you'd never think could be performed without instruments plus have quite a bit of original music by now too. They mostly do pop, r&b, edm & gospel/Christmas music but have also done other genres. [If you like country music, then check out a group called Home Free. There are many who love both groups!] They even have done songs in Korean, Japanese, French & Spanish. They are masters of mashups & transitions during medleys. Before watching more, you should know that there has been 1, & only 1, member change. The original bass, Avi, left mid 2017 for personal reasons. Though everyone was sad about that, the band & the fans all understood & now he has a solo career going at a slower pace. The current bass, Matt, who you saw in this video, joined them for the Christmas concerts that year as a trial & officially joined Jan 2018. But also: The high voiced guy (counter tenor) is Mitch & the woman is Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty). Both of them every so often change their hairstyle, they love to try different fashions, & they may be slightly lighter or darker on their tan depending on how much sun they've been getting. (Her family is of Latina origin & his of Italian origin.) Also both of them [& the tall blonde, Scott] occasionally are wearing glasses instead of contacts. So at 1st glance they sometimes confuse people into thinking they're different people. The beatboxer, Kevin, is an amazing genius in more ways than 1 & you will certainly hear many fans go on about him. In short, he was found through a video of him doing "celloboxing", & cello isn't the only instrument he plays. Recommendations to get started: Daft Punk (medley homage to the group, Grammy #1), Evolution of Michael Jackson (amazing transitions), Amazing Grace, Imagine, Water (original), Cracked (original), Run to You (original), Mad World, La La Latch (fabulous mashup!), Jolene with Dolly Parton (Grammy #3), Radioactive (features Kevin on cello & violinist Lindsey Stirling), & last but certainly not least Bohemian Rhapsody!!!
@@wharkkyryhniann8023 Ok, I was typing very quickly & missed 1 p in cappella, but I did do it as 2 words instead of 1 even though most people nowadays squish it into 1, so I don't know what you're griping about. 🤦♀️ When I see someone made a typo or spelling mistake in the comments I don't correct them unless I feel it's really needed for clarity or if it's someone's name.
You really can’t go wrong with PTX they are one of the only artists that do covers that I love just as much as the original. I never feel like they are trying to outdo the original. They pay respect to it. Sound of silence, daft punk, hallelujah, bohemian rhapsody, radioactive w/Lindsay Stirling are some of my faves
You could honestly react to anything that is Pentatonix and be blown away. They don't just do covers, they do upgrades! They also have original content as well as the renditions of other songs. I recommend checking out sound of silence, amazing grace my chains are gone, can't sleep love, and come along, Pentatonix does all types of music!
They have a large catalog of songs, both covers and originals. The do mostly Pop and Christmas music. Everything is incredible. For more like this (medleys) watch their Evolution videos. Evolution of Music, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Evolution of Rhianna, Evolution of Beyonce, Evolution of Arianna Grande. For something unique their Daft Punk Medley (first Grammy win).
I just came across you because I love watching new Pentatonix (PTX for short) reactors. This group is going on 11 years of amazing esa so if you really wanna fall down this rabbit hole, you will have no shortage of amazing covers and fire original songs as well. Someone else recommended New Rules x Are You That Somebody and I second that recommendation SO HARD
Pentatonix has been around for about 11 years now. They are Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, and Matt Sallee. Mat replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017 when Avi left for personal reasons. They are an A cappella group and do most of their covers and originals using their voice only. They do sometimes use instruments but you will see them in the video. Kevin, the beatboxer, is a concert level cellist who has coined the phrase “cello boxing” where he beatboxes and plays the cello at the same time. You can see him play in “Say Something,” Perfect,” and “Thank You.” Any song you pick is a winner, but you should check out “Daft Punk,” “Sound of Silence,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Great reaction. Looking forward to more from you! 😊
The group: Kevin Olusola - beatboxing, cello, tenor vocals; Matt Sallee - bass/baritone vocals and vocal bass (using his voice as an electronic or string bass); Scott Hoying (blond guy) - baritone; Mitch Grassi (tenor, countertenor, electronic effects), Kirstin Maldonado - mezzo soprano/alto. Invisible 6th member: arranger Ben Bram, responsible for a lot of those smooth transitions.
Loved your reaction. I haven't listened to a PTX, Pentatonix, video that I didn't love. They mainly do covers, upgrades 😉, but I love their originals too. You can't go wrong with any of their stuff. Especially their Christmas music... it's all 'fire'!
I was DJ back in the 80s and 90s and they are DJ in their own music I’m impressed I group is Chicago I can’t find adjectives to describe how amazing they are they are freaking phenomenal for real for real
Thank you for listening to them! Pentatonix really should have more exposure & hits. I would suggest New Rules x Are You That Somebody or Evolution of Rhianna.
They do use instruments once and awhile but they don't hide them. There always up front and center when they use instruments. So happy you found Pentatonix (PTX) for short. Welcome to the Rabbit Hole it's a Hell of a Ride.
Subscribed to watch you go down the Pentatonix rabbit hole 😊 You can't go wrong with anything you pick! I love Pentatonix "Problem" (Arianna Grande song) Mitch raps in it and by the way, be prepared to be "Mitch-slapped" 🤣🤣 He can get high!
Same with Love Again. It's amazing how many reactors just give it a miss, but it's another edm beat song that's a great showcase of Mitch's vocal talents.
The only exception to acapella in this is the tribute to Cher in Believe using autotune for Kirstin (known then as the Cher effect) in tribute to Cher. They do use instruments at times, like Kevin playing the cello in Shallow (but you always see the instruments). Scott Hoying (tall blond) is the baritone, Mitch Grassi is the counter tenor, Kirstin Maldonado is the soprano, Matt Sallee is the bass (replace Avi Kaplin in 2018), and Kevin Olusola is the vocal percussion (beat boxer), cellist, and tenor.
Really enjoyed your reaction. There are sooo many masterpieces by Pentatonix. Some suggestions: HALLELUJAH, SOUND OF SILENCE, IMAGINE, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, CHEERLEADER, HAPPY NOW, EVOLUTION OF MICHAEL JACKSON, SAY SOMETHING, BE MY EYES - to name a few. Thanks, I'll be watching for your upcoming Pentatonix reactions!
Hallelujah, sound of silence, daft punk medley, and the prayer are my top. I can't remember the song with Lindsey sterling, but that one is great too!!!
The official type of group is "A Capella" from old Latin for "from the chapel" and Pentatonix may well be the best group of this type currently in existence. You want variety? You can find everything from old and modern Christmas carols to Broadway to electronic dance music to top-line rock music. Not to mention that one of their Grammy awards was for a country collaboration with Dolly Parton for the song "Jolene." They have a few "ordinary" songs and a LOT of extraordinary work. They have multiple platinum albums, three Grammy awards, and when they go on tour, they sell out every venue. Not bad for some kids only about 10 years out of high school, eh?
Thank you for reacting to this fun Pentatonix video. Glad that you liked it. I hope that you will react to Pentatonix videos again very soon. They are incredible. Suggestions: "Sound Of Silence", "Amazing Grace", "New Rules x "Are You That Somebody?", Mad World" and "Hallelujah". They cover all genres of music brilliantly and beautifully. Just pick titles that seem interesting to you.
Agree with all this! "Just Called to Say I love you", And any of their mash ups (New Rules x Are You that Somebody ", and evolution videos are also awesome.. "My Heart With You" and "Thank You" are also super special.... "Coffee in Bed", "Sing" "Are You Happy Now" are outstanding originals..... Honestly though.... this is PTX... everything they do is fire and amazing to watch.... Welcome to the Rabbit hole.. PTX doesn't do covers... they do upgrades... and their Wall of sound is second to none... They're magical to watch.
Fantastic first reaction 😍😍 and I love it wasn't one of their "big" hits! They have been around over 10 years and have a ton of covers of all genres and two albums of original music...plus soooo many Christmas albums 🤣 they don't get radio play except around Christmas time so it's no surprise you haven't heard of them. Really hope you enjoy exploring their catalogue!
Subbed to watch more of your reactions to this fantastic group! Anything by them is amazing, so take your pick. And if you go down this rabbit hole, you will get many followers...us Pentaholics love watching new reactors of this group!
When you make your ptx playlist you got to put this one 1st. I so love 1st reactions. Genuine appreciation for the group and their music is awesome to see. Keep posting and I will keep watching ang liking.
I really enjoyed your reaction and subscribed for more Pentatonix (PTX). This is an a cappella group, but they refer to themselves as a band. With 200 plus songs, covers and originals, over an eleven year career, you can pick any song and it will be a winner. Recommend their cover of Mad World. Beware of harsh copyrighting by their record label.
I love your reactions. PTX fan for over 10 years. Ok my list Daft punk Thank you Mad world Can’t hold us Sing Thrift shop Radioactive Love again. Not PTX Timothy by the Bouys Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald Thank you
Of course by now you know that they are all "A Cappella" (2 words, 2 p-s) yes. No instruments. Their voices are amazing! For this 90s Medley: Be My Lover - La Bouche What Is Love - Haddaway Around The World (La La La La) - A Touch Of Class Better Off Alone - Alice Deejay Gonna Make You Sweat - C & C Music Factory Rhythm is a Dancer - SNAP! Daft punk, evolution of Michael Jackson, Hallelujah(has over 668 million views) . Amazing Grace, Carol of the Bells. They have over 11years of tunes you can choose from. Welcome , I've been told that Pentatonix are like potato chips you can't have just one.
Pentatonix - New rules x are you that somebody, hallelujah, sound of s8lence, amazing grace, the prayer, attention, butter X dynamite, Havana…… and much much more
New subscriber here. Had to subscribe once I realized you are a baby Pentaholic! We Pentaholics adore watching others grow to love this Acapella group! Some of my favorite songs of theirs: Bohemian Rhapsody, The Prayer, The Evolution of Michael Jackson, Shallow, Imagine, Hallelujah, Daft Punk, and ohh Radioactive with Lindsay Sterling playing violin and Kevin playing his gorgeous cello! So so many songs you have yet to experience...enjoy the ride, you are in for some amazing music!!
I loved your reaction! I hope you continue to go down this rabbit hole. You may also enjoy their renditions of Bohemian Rhapsody, Problem, No, and The Prayer. Evolution of Michael Jackson and La La Latch are absolutely wonderful. Greetings from Tennessee 🤗🇺🇸
If you watch other videos they had one member change Avi their original bass left amicably in 2017 and was replaced by Matt (sang believe). Mitch (high voice) and Kirstin look diff a lot but it’s always them. They all have impressive ranges and Kevin, the beat boxer, also plays cello, was premed and speaks Mandarin. If you liked this I’d try an Evolution video. They also have originals.
Pentatonix is the BEST a capella group out there. So happy to enjoy your reaction. Thank you! As for suggestions, please check out their Evolution videos! They do an evolution of Rihanna, evolution of Ariana Grande, and of course evolution of Michael Jackson! Also their cover of Kiira's Gold is amazing, as well as Daft Punk medley, Can't Hold Us, New Rules x Are You That Somebody, A Little Space, etc. etc. etc. Their catalog is extensive and very varied. Please explore!!!
Yep...no instruments! They started out over a decade ago. The only member switch has been the bass singer. They used to have a guy named Avi for 7 years. My favorites with him are Daft Punk Melody (they won a Grammy for this), Hallelujah, and the Evolution of Michael Jackson. They now have Matt, the new bass you saw here, and he’s fantastic! My favorites with Matt are Butter x Dynamite (a BTS mashup), Sound of Silence, Come Along, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Also Dreams is nice...I heard they did that one all individually & apart in their homes because of covid. If you’re feeling Christmas in summertime, Matt has the lead on You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch 🎉😁 Subscribed for more PTX! 🙌🏼
Daft punk They won their first Grammy Havana is just a silken eargasm Can't hold us , and Sing (original) they rap Of course there are there epic covers Hallelujah, sound of silence, bohemian rhapsody, and the prayer Then their collaborations with Lindsey sterling are first rate Radioactive Over the river Papaoutai
Great reaction! Everything Pentatonix has done is incredible. Some of my favorites are Imagine, Daft Punk, Hallelujah and Mary Did You Know. New subscriber and looking forward to many more PTX reactions!
The video you watched is more recent, with the new bass singer Matt Sallee. Matt replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017. A lot of the videos linked below are with Avi (who is also AMAZING!).
The other 4 members have remained constant....Scott Hoying (tall blonde guy with the cool sunglasses you liked)), Mitch Grassi (the guy with the mustache and high voice - he changes his look often), Kirstie Maldonado (she changes her hair color often), and Kevin Olusola (the beatboxer). Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch have been singing together since high school, and they added Kevin and Avi when they competed (and won) on the 3rd Season of the acapella competition show called "The Sing Off" in 2011. Love pentatonix and love your reaction to them hi from ireland Please react to pentatonixnew rules. Cheer leader. Butter and dvnamite. Sing. The sound of silence. Love again. Daft punk
Heh! You ain't seen nothing yet! If you jump down this rabbit home, we'll come with you! They are arguably the best Acapella group in existence, or at least top 5, there are some great ones out there, but I think its safe to say they pioneered a new era of Acapella and totally changed the game. Honestly, they have been doing this since 2012 and have 100's of videos. You might as well throw a dart ar the wall because they have no bad originals or covers (we say upgrades), every style from Pop, to Hip Hop, to Broadway, to traditional, and everything in between, it's all fire. Most people go to "Daft Punk" or "Bohemian Rhapsody" at this point, ("Daft Punk" is insane and won them the first of their three Grammys, and Bohemian Rhapsody got a nod from Brian May himself), but I suggest one of their Evolution videos to get you rolling. My favorites are Michael Jackson, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande.
They are fantastic! Music entirely without instruments is called acapella, and they are the best at it. I also recommend the evolution of Ariana Grande, the evolution of Ariana Grande, and their cover of Charlie Puth's attention. They also have original songs, I love happy now, coffee in bed, and can't sleep love.
So far.
I usually call Kevin our Renaissance man.
Overachiever? Nah that suggests we all gotta compete or something. He’s just crazy talented and has developed his skills.
On top of all that, he's also just a genuinely Nice guy! I met them years ago they where all present and nice but Kevin man. He jumped up shook hands, you engaged with every one and was like locked in.
So glad you found Ptx! You are a blast & I am here for the Ptx journey!!
And the flood gates open!! Welcome to PTX. Enjoy your stay.

Correction: A Cappella (2 words, 2 p-s). FYI.
You are going down the rabbit hole. Keep doing their stuff. You will love it.
Yes , thank you
Agree with all this!
A cappella is what you call these types of groups. Using only their voices is called a cappella.
Aye thank you
New sub for more PTX❤️🔥❤️🔥

That’s dope
Thank you Jacob and thank you for the reaction
I really enjoyed your reaction and subscribed for more Pentatonix (PTX). This is an a cappella group, but they refer to themselves as a band. With 200 plus songs, covers and originals, over an eleven year career, you can pick any song and it will be a winner. Recommend their cover of Mad World.
Beware of harsh copyrighting by their record label.

Lol. I always love watching people discover PTX for the first time. 🔥
My brother they are the truth for real
It's called Acapella. They make everything with their mouth and voices
"A capella," in case a hundred other people didn't already answer your question.
New Rules x Are You That Somebody, Bohemian Rhapsody,, Amazing Grace, ThePrayer...there are no bad chohices. Welcome to the rabbiit hole! Have fun.
A Capella is the art form. You will have to listen to their Evolution Videos, Beyonce, Rihanna, Arianna Grande, Michael Jackson...it's crazy!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If you’re feeling Christmas in summertime, Matt has the lead on You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch 🎉😁
Subscribed for more PTX! 🙌🏼
you'd probably really like their mashup of New Rules x Are you that Somebody. It's fire

I love "The Prayer" and "The sound of silence". Those are my recomendations
They don't have a bad joint. Check their Daft Punk Medley, and their cover of Can't Hold Us.
I'd suggest catching their original songs starting with, "Sing" or "Happy Now"
I love your high pitched WHAT!?? You're amazing at reacting to ptx
Loved your reaction! Subscribed for more.
They are an acapella group(no instruments)
Hallelujah awesome song
Great reaction! Everything Pentatonix has done is incredible. Some of my favorites are Imagine, Daft Punk, Hallelujah and Mary Did You Know. New subscriber and looking forward to many more PTX reactions!
You will love Daft Punk by PTX!

New sub here for more Pentatonix please!
Thank you
More pentatonix please
If you like PTX, give Home Free a shot
They are fantastic! Music entirely without instruments is called acapella, and they are the best at it. I also recommend the evolution of Ariana Grande, the evolution of Ariana Grande, and their cover of Charlie Puth's attention.
They also have original songs, I love happy now, coffee in bed, and can't sleep love.
Correction: A Cappella (2 words, 2 p-s). FYI.
Share should’ve definitely found this at her party left achievement
It's called Acapella and they're amazing! You should definitely check out their evolution of Rihanna and Arianna Grande!! They're incredible ❤️❤️
Correction: A Cappella (2 words, 2 p-s). FYI.
I think you'd really love"hold us"❤😄
They are like an updated more expanded Boys 2 Men from back in the day
