@@iamthat Just realised i think it was your blog that (although I could pick up on it from his behaviour and what he said on video) was the absolute 100% convincer about what he was doing. Saw it way before I even knew he’d been arrested for stalking as he sold it to his subs that he was doing the taking people to court. The comparisons Pez made about fundraising he kind of contradicted himself by saying he understands whilst also saying he’s been punished enough. Also comparing the fundraising to AB is disingenuous at best. But that’s my problem with him. He says things to appear balanced but if he’s as clever as he appears or thinks he is, he will know what he is saying is wrong (like how weak using fundraising was). I can live with people who’s views I fundamentally disagree with, but it is that disingenuous part that I think is really concerning. And you have every right to reply, and that’s what it is, which again he twisted to make it look like you were simply attacking people who support AB. It is subtle but to people who don’t have a careful grasp of the English language in an almost forensic way, he knows it looks that way to his subscribers. He could have said there’s no need to waste your time responding to what they say. He’s articulate enough. But those weren’t the words he chose. And this is a very common theme in most videos he does.
@@Toxic-Ology you’re very astute. And yep it was my article that was the first and only person at the time to call Belfield out back in November 2019, before the pandemic, when Belfield’s channel only had 20,000 subs (compared to 400,000 that it grew to.) Before any of these people published videos about him, or were even discussing him. And the truth is, I doubt any of these people would be making these videos if Belfield were here to “defend” himself. They would know he would possibly begin to target and harass them, the way he did to me. I risked a lot by speaking out about Belfield, and lost a lot, but it was one of those sliding doors moments in my life, that I look back on with no regrets. It has brought me to where I am, and who I am, and I would do it all again.
@@iamthat You’re a great example to everyone on how to deal with people like him. Because as you will have experienced, it means you end up suffering much more that you might have done if you did what most other people do in the situation which is back down and do what they say. I know it’s a cliche but at heart people who are like him are cowards, but they also have no empathy so only care about getting their own way at all costs. The problem is, most people enable them by giving in, because it’s simply too much like hard work, and there’s those that actually (which I’m sure you will have done but fought past the fear), believe their threats and claims (e.g. there’s usually loads of lies like “I’ve got a team of solicitors on this” but when it comes to it, it’s just him emailing pretending to be a solicitor etc, but at face value it’s scary). And I know the feeling in the pit of the stomach it gives you. Most people comply and even apologise because they think that’s what has to be done. I recall reading your blog with all he wrote, and I was tempted to reach out, but I think you may have taken it down, or I just couldn’t find it again. But like it is now, it’s very hard to explain certain phrases like “his threats are empty” and how to in a way reprogram the way you feel when you read them, whilst coldly treating it all as just evidence to give to the police. It is just way too complex to have been able to get over in a way that wouldn’t simply add to your frustration at the time. Like I’ve said before I have a zero tolerance approach to dealing with these types of people, and it works because people like this are more than just predictable, they will like night follows day react and say and do things that are exactly the same. But you were in the thick of it, so it wouldn’t have been helpful it might have made things worse. It has taken me years and years to develop my eye for these kind of things, and often (which I’m sure you’ll have faced) people try to rationalise these things, and YOU end up feeling like you’re the one that is in the wrong or being unreasonable or even paranoid, because other people try to think from a reasonable rational viewpoint when your dealing with an unreasonable irrational person. The zero tolerance helps protect against gas lighting and that fear of “wtf he going to do next”. And this is before even thinking he’s got a whole audience to broadcast his lies to and how they might react. Anyway, I honestly could go on and on. But the takeaway is that what all of you who were part of the case have done is more important that I think any of you will even realise, and you all have a very personal experience and as a result a great understanding of it. But the reality is it’s the first step in a much wider issue about what I call toxic behaviour and is filed under “personality disorders”, which I think is something society needs a better understand of, and in the world of psychology is a bone of contention because there are some who treat it as an illness, and others, like me who to put it bluntly say it SHOULDN’T be included among mental health illnesses (there are calls for things like antisocial personality disorder to be removed from the next DSM). Unfortunately in the meantime there is too much focus on the well-being of the people who are toxic, than the their victims. And when you deal with some professionals they think you should change your behaviour to accommodate their personality disorder, which makes life even more difficult especially for people in your situation. Again that’s another thing I could write a book on and takes much more than a comment to explain as it is so complex. Fortunately there is hope as schools seem to educate children about what is toxic and what isn’t but it is still a long way from being effective. I don’t know whether they do now or not, but like we have lessons like RE and PE schools need to have Emotional Education as a staple lesson as it will go a long way to preventing there being as many Alex Belfield’s, and also help children recognise signs where behaviour isn’t just normal behaviour in their household.
