Sorry to disappoint but we will not be watching the rest of the trilogy... just want to let y'all know before expecting the rest of the trilogy. If something isn't enjoyable, we will not continue it. Scream 5 is the next movie reaction.

It's an absolute travesty that Andy Serkis didn't get even an Oscar nomination for any of the films in this trilogy. I'm always surprised how much I love these movies, but they're so good.

I've said it before, but Serkis deserves a Lifetime Achievement Oscar. Between Apes and Rings, he trailblazed a new form of acting, and knocked it out of the park while doing it.
Well, the performance is computer assisted. But yeah, they should create a new category.

I remember seeing this in theaters, when Caesar grabbed Tom Felton's arm (Malfoy) and screamed "NO!" the whole theater gasped and went SILENT.

I absolutely respect your wishes and reasons for not going any further in this series... but just the usual fyi here... the second one is quite beautiful (no, not the scenery) and well, phenomenal in it's approach, that we can all just be, and get along. No animal testing b***sh** in the second one, just respect. You don't have to do a reaction vid to it, maybe watch it on yer own time, even if just the first half hour or so. Either way, I'm still a subscriber, always will be ;)

@@NikkiStevenReact Btw, top of my head, maybe also filed under on-your-own-time viewing (I'm not one to tell ya how to work yer channel, lol), but a good animal flick is Anna Paquin's 1996 beauty, Fly Away Home.
Yeah, it may not be for you, but might be worth consideration as the complete trilogy is excellent. It gets better with each film (both the vfx and the story/themes) as well as being more ape focused than human focused in the later films. And if you don't see the second and third movies you are missing some epically great characters and character development with Caesar and Maurice and some funny characters like Bad Ape.

It's a shame too, because it really only seems to be Nikki that doesn't want to watch it.
I also find that weird because she even said she was struggling to connect with Cesaer and the rest as animals because they were fake, which makes the whole "we're not watching it because it makes us uncomfortable" thing kinda strange.
They can sit through war movies but cannot watch this one... It's a shame. I understand tho, this movie isn't my favorite either but the other two are just truly amazing.

This was one of the most badass movies ever! Seeing Caesar evolve from just a very smart chimp to a powerfully intelligent leader was equally shocking and amazing to witness. That "NO!" scene gives me chills every time, it's so damn cool! The sequels are superb as well, and evolve the story and series just as intelligently.
The second film is definitely the best in the entire trilogy and one of those landmark films when it comes to visual effects. Plus it has apes on horseback with machine guns. You can’t go wrong there.
Cesar screaming NO turned my entire theater dead quiet when I first saw this in the cinema. Absolutely legendary
Such a shame you wont continue as a couple, because this is one of the best and most underrated trilogies of the last 20 years. It really is.

He's not gonna watch it solo either he said, because it's not as fun without Nikki. Which makes sense, the reason I tune in is because they have great chemistry with each other before and after each movie reaction.

Oh, the second one is so good!!! We see the aftermath of it all and how it’s just a struggle for survival for both humans and apes. The apes have minds of their own now in the second one, so during the events of that movie and the third, they are capable of thinking and acting for themselves.
You know… now I’m really curious to hear Nikki’s thoughts on the second movie because there’s a lot to pull from it. But, I get it if them don’t want to watch the rest. At least this first movie was a great set up.

Don’t give up on the trilogy. You’re really going to be missing out on a tremendous story arc.
To be honest though, I am surprised Nikki made it through Game of Thrones (which harms children and animals exponentially more than this trilogy) and never would have thought this would be a no from her. I mean it is what it is and I respect your guys decision on not watching the rest.
I think it’s the fact they make you emotionally connected to animal and then you see him and other be super mistreated. Now I haven’t seen GOT but sporadic scenes compared to a whole film based on it is rough. I cry every time I see this film cause it’s hard for me to watch so I get her.
Stopping after watching this movie is like seeing the first Hunger Games movie and deciding not to see the rest, the Apes sequels step it up to a whole 'nother level just as much as that franchise. Missing out on some wonderful character pieces, beautiful filmography, and great direction from Matt Reeves before he did The Batman, but you guys do you I guess ❤

About 40 years ago I was at a zoo in Memphis, Tennessee, in one of the old-fashioned, cement and glass monkey houses. I was standing at an enclosure and there was one very young ape just sitting in the corner against the glass, looking out kind of at nothing and just bored. Just then, a little boy about 4 years old, right about the same size as the ape walked up and the young ape saw him and his whole face lit up. He jumped up and stood in front of the boy, then went and grabbed his ball and followed the little boy along the glass and the family walked past the enclosure. Then, the little boy and his family kept walking and the young ape just stood there and watched them leave, then just sat down and leaned against the glass and looked so sad. I've never fucking forgotten that. Humans don't deserve this planet after all we've done to them and all the other animals, but especially the ones we share the most DNA with.

They did look great in this one but the next two are some of the best cgi that’s ever been made that it makes this one look like a Rankin/Bass production.
The second movie is amazing, especially how the apes are established and running most of the land.
Once I heard Matt Reeves was directing The Batman, I wasn't worried due to the epicness of The Apes trilogy. The first one is more like a prequel. 2 is my absolute favorite. 3 is pretty good.
Same. I'm 100% down for any Batman movie, but I got REEEALLY excited when Reeves was announced as director of The Batman. And that's MOSTLY because of the absolutely INCREDIBLE job he did with the this trilogy when he took it over!
I'm with many I've seen here in the comments... Dawn is the best, War is almost at the same level, and Rise is 3rd.
The first one is the only one not directed by Reeves and it shows in my opinion. Still a great movie but the second and third are on a whole other level.
As a massive animal lover I honestly respect your decision. This is definitely the "happiest" of the trilogy. I feel that you missed out on some really great movies but there are plenty of really great movies out there that won't cause the same degree of discomfort. I appreciate you being honest with your reactions and your feelings.
This series was really well done. I found they got better with each addition. By the way, Steven, I was rooting for the apes.
One of the few times where Steven spoke much more than Nikki... i got the sense that Steven was really diggin' this movie.
Huge fan of the original Planet of the Apes movies. Even though I didn't get the same feeling out of this trilogy I did still enjoy them.

12:04 so there are obviously a shit ton of tests that go into this but a few animals are first in line before chimps. Rats are tested because they have very similar nervous systems to humans. Pigs are tested because they have a very similar heart to humans (so much so that they can transplant pig heart parts into a human heart). Chimps are used for the obvious similarities to humans but they are farther down the list and I assume wouldn't be tested on unless absolutely necessary. Considering how expensive, rare, and dangerous they are.
If you guys aren’t going to finish the trilogy, then you should know that the gas he was exposed to create some thing called the Simeon flu
It basically kills humans
The ones that survive start to devolve and become more like the apes
The apes get smarter while the humans get dumber
That’s how we wind up with the planet of the apes
It’s actually pretty clever

This movie reminds me of getting hospitalized for 6 months and feeling completely powerless can really relate to Cesar and the pain of losing your idea of home and never getting it back and you either build or find a new family and a place to call home.... you guys are gonna love the next two films the 2nd one is definitely my favorite
Don't know if you've been reading the other comments but they've stated at the top of the comment section they won't be continuing the series for Nikki's sake. Shame they won't be able to witness the awesomness that's the rest of the series, but I get it.

This is my favorite trilogy in ALL OF FILM HISTORY. And I'm sad you guys wont be continuing. The first movie is a lot of controversial and sad stuff, and it does get a little darker, but also makes you really root for the apes and exposes a lot of human flaws and what we do when we are scared.

You guys gave a great reaction and i am not trying to convince you to watch the other 2 movies, especially because it is not within your comfort zone. I do want to say that this truly is one of the best trilogies in cinema, it has it's emotional moments but each movie depicts (ironically) a very human story.
So, a little insider knowlage for you both if you are curious to 'why". Testing is traditionally done on Apes because their genetics are the closest in the animal kingdom to our own. Granted, the brutality shown in the film would not fly in a lot of places today. While animal testing is still conducted, there are a lot of humanitarian laws that do protect the animals involved and dictate the proceadures. No, its not perfect and yes, there still stands to be that moral argument "its not right". I am sure when methods do arise that remove the "NEED" for non-human test subjects, then this will phase out all together. But yea, the main take aware here is that there are a lot of rules/laws in place to prohibit several actions dipicated in the movie. A lot of what was done is there to build tension and dramatic effect.
Steven: "So what if this whole thing flips and the apes take over?"
All of us: "That's EXACTLY what happens!"

I feel you Nikki, I say the phrase “I fucking hate people” so much my husband says he should get it put on a shirt. During the recent protest in Ottawa I was watching the news and getting so upset the police horses might get hurt. He said that is their job. I told him that none of them volunteered for that “job” and they didn’t ask to be put in harms way. Someone threw a bicycle at one and I nearly lost my mind. Just wanted to let you know that you aren’t the only one who feels for the animals.
Not finishing this trilogy is like breaking a commandment.
I’m so glad you guys reacted to this film. The rest of the series is amazing. You get to see how the animals evolve and live in their natural environment. It’s quite beautiful. I’m sure Nikki would really love the rest of the series a lot better than the first film❤️
Sorry y’all had this experience, I get it but I *highly* recommend watching the rest of the series, the animal abuse is just in the first film. This trilogy is absolutely up there with Lord of the Rings and my personal favorite of all time. If u could bring Nikki back in and watch I’m sure y’all would enjoy it, all love

As a zookeeper and animal lover I respect your choice of not wanting to watch the last 2 movies. Although as a massive movie nerd I would of loved to sit and watch them with you as they are absolutely amazing movies and at the end of the day I always remember they are just sci-fi movies. I'll never forget the "NOOO!!" followed by the dead silence in the movie theater, followed by me saying "Wow" out load without meaning to lol. That scene was just so perfect
Caesar's story and his character development is amazing. He is one of the greatest characters of all time. The second movie is different from this one and the third one is different from the previous two. Yeah, it's hard to watch because of all the hardships that Caesar and his tribe has to go through but their journey, Caesar's journey is almost... mythical.
So I'm a huge fan of the channel, and have spent countless hours watching reactions. Finally saw Rise, and was super stoked to see the reaction, only to be extremely disappointed by Nikki's attitude during this whole thing. I understand the first scene with "Bright Eyes" made her upset, but even during the happy scenes of Ceaser growing up and being a cute ape, she had a disgusted and uninteresed look. Really expected my favorite reactors to give this great film a chance. Props to Steven for actually seeming interested.
I was rooting for the Apes back in the 70s and I love this trilogy which is actually the prequel, and each movie gets better and better.

They are not animals in the sequels, the whole point of the trilogy is to blur the line between the humans and the animals, which leads to ask ourselves some really great ethical and philosophical questions. This first movie is really just the intro to all of that so it would be a shame to miss those great sequels when you barely scratched the surface. If Nikki really don't want to get into them (I perfectly understand why btw) I hope you enjoy them by yourself Steven, you're in for a good ride 🙂
I once read in a scientific journal that monkeys and chimpanzees can't speak because they don't have a larynx. And that would be the only significant difference between us and them about the ability to speak.
Damn, sucks you guys won’t be reacting to the rest of the 2, the cinematography ad tone alone makes them great films as they switched up the director for the final 2 in the trilogy.

That's the confusing part! lol Nikki DID look like she was hating the people who needed hated, feeling sympathy and sadness at the proper moments, feeling the sweetness and warmth of the happy, emotional moments and CHEERING the apes as the humans get what's coming to them...that all SEEMED like enjoyment to a lot of us watching. lol

I just spent the last 15 minutes looking everywhere for it because I could’ve sworn I saw it there recently and got so excited but I was holding off watching it until a later time. This might be the first time I’ve seen a whole movie franchise be formally discontinued from a YT channel and it’s a shame it had to be the Apes trilogy.

I love the movies, I saw 2 of them in the theaters first week of release. However there was clearly something off for the reactors. So those whoa re mad, literally watch other peoples reactions. The rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever made. Hope you both will continue and finish the whole trilogy someday. Great movies with great characters and great stories. After finishing the trilogy you can watch the original Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston and it feels like a proper sequel to the trilogy.
The next two are amazing. Amazing trilogy I rewatch a ton of times.

I love this film so much (the sequels less so) and I will always remember my reaction to it after leaving the cinema. I was in awe. Experiencing Caesar's iconic line in a theater full of people was one of, if not, the best theatrical experience I ever had.
The second two movies are nothing like this one and they combine to make one of the best trilogies of the last decade+. I respect the choice though and hope Steven reacts to them or at least watches them in his own time. Cheers!
Bonjour, I'm from Louisiana, a hot 🥵 southern state. I recently learned that there is a place called Chimp Haven 🐵 in my state, that has over a hundred retired lab 🔬 chimpanzees there to live a more comfortable life. Though the funny thing is, we also have a lot of chemical plants and humid swamp lands. So, if there's going to be a real Planet of the Apes 🌏 🦍🦧🐵 it's probably start over here.
Maybe you guys could react to the 2 part of the trilogy trailer and see what you think? If you see the trailer you can get an idea of what kind of film the rest of them are. I really think you guys would enjoy it, even Nikki. I myself have such a love for animals and the first movie hurts😭 but I love the second and third so much

They aren't real apes, but goes to show how good the story is. I felt Game of Thrones was much worse to watch.
A little history on GoT - we actually tried watching it back in the day but stopped when Bran was thrown from a window. GoT is not comparable to ANYTHING else and was still rough to get though, if you watched our reactions. Being blindsided by this movie and not continuing is not the same thing.
@@NikkiStevenReact You still revisited G.O.T and gave it another shot right. The Apes movies aren't about dead apes it's much more than that. So there's nothing wrong wit giving it another shot. you both said you enjoyed the movie overall n it was the Weakest one in the trilogy. Some of the best stuff you've watched or start was because a fan recommend it. We recommend ya'll continue if not all good.

This isn't the first time we've not continued something... it's never an easy decision but sometimes it needs to be made.
Damn you Andy Serkis for making me cry over a CGI chimpanzee! Thw movies are excellent and there are tons of easter eggs in these movies.
Awh thats unfortunate. understandable though. but the methods and treatment of apes in this movie is defnitely required for the message to get across, this is what happens in real life.

Love this movie. I got chills too when he first yelled 'No!'. It was insane. In the original movies there's a line that says 'The first ape's name was Caesar, and the first word he spoke was 'no'.' which is why they chose this angle as the origin. that was beautiful to me.
I love how you two clutched at each other at 29:46 instead of just Nikki squeezing the hell out of Steven's arm, it was cute~
If your seen the original then lots of similarities especially how they treat the apes. By the end when they shower newspaper it says astronauts went much ssimg. That's suppose to be the astronauts in the original lol. Plus in the sequels you see origins and rose of Caesar and the apes. Kinda different though lol.
Big surprise here but, it's just a movie, not a documentary. And it's CGI, not real. lol

it's unfortunate that this kind of comment even needs to happen... it's pretty clear Nikki has a certain connection and love to animals and real or not, seeing them harmed triggers a certain feeling. Kind of like when we watched Breaking Bad we received a ton of comments from people talk about not being able to watch that show because of the subject... obviously it's just a television show and not a documentary but certain images triggers feelings. hope that makes sense.
Yes Steven this is how drugs are tested in animals 1st. I live in Baltimore & worked at John’s Hopkins hospital in the research lab for the hospital taking care of the animals. They have chimps, chinchillas, Guinea pigs, rats, & mouse & sometimes dogs & cats to test drugs on before humans or do behavior studies. I’ve seen chimps in a cigarette & diabetes testing regimen where they were smoking to see the affects of a a cure & of course testing a diabetes medicine. So yes this movie is one of my favs you guys are super late but that’s why it’s super relatable!! I’m team Cesar all the way! Especially in the sequel!!
The sequels don't have all the uncomfortable things that happen in this film. THe sequels especially dawn is a masterpiece. Watch them. :)
Caesar is one of the greatest movie heroes of all time. I was lucky enough to see the whole trilogy in 3D at the theater, and while usually 3D feels like a gimmick, the way it was done made me feel like I was in there with Caesar experiencing his story. I wish y'all could see his story through to the end.
