Too Hot for Catfishing?

- Fishing for catfish in the summer is a popular pastime for many catfish anglers. Summer catfishing can be tough if you are fishing during the day in the summer heat. One of my favorite catfish baits in the summer is chicken breast. Using chicken breast for catfish bait in the summer is a good way to catch a lot of catfish. Catfishing with chicken breast for bait works when you are anchored, catfishing from the bank, or drifting in a boat.

I catfish at night from the bank. Get my bluegill around 4pm and get to lake around 6pm and usually don't head back home til 5 or 6 am.
Dieter, I had a really extensive oral surgery 3 days ago and I've been layin' in bed in almost abject agony with over a dozen holes drilled/cut in my head. I've been binging your videos dreamin' about gettin' back out on the water in a few weeks and landin' some fish. You're gettin' me through a really tough time Boss Man. Just wantcha to know I appreciate ya and whatcha doin'. Thanks bud.
I Pray for a speedy recovery. Hope you get to fish soon.
It's very humbling to read post like this because they're a reminder of all the blessing in my like. Love and prayers to you and your family while you're recovering.❤
Only remember ever using my Bimini once for rain. Its strictly for the Alabama sun, even went with a model that has zip in side shade panels. I fish for pleasure and sitting in a microwave is not my idea of fun.
Plus I'm old I don't need extra reasons to be cranky. 😊
Good video.
I work 12hr shifts in a steel mill. 160 degrees all day every day in there. Being conditioned to extreme heat helps, but you always need to listen to your body.
I repair and maintain irrigation for Kansas State University. There's many times I'm in the full sun digging holes sometimes to my hip. Its super important to drink plenty of water and some garteraid. When I'm out fishing, I always make sure I have extra water. You never know if you'll need to share or go through more than you expect. Heat related illnesses can happen quicker than you think. No soda pops aren't a good choice in the heat its best you avoid them. They may dehydrate you more. Great advice and video!
Totally enjoyed watching this morning Dieter. Yep that heat will beat you down gotta take care of yourself.🥵💯
I always learn something valuable from your videos Dieter💪
Yes sir that top makes a world of difference when it's really hot and got to get me one of them lucky horseshoes.....light weight clothing helps a lot too.
I have a beautiful bank fishing spot. We have a large creek system that dumps into the river and a friend gave me access. I get to sit right on the bank where that big creek dumps into the river. On private property, no one to bother me. Huge shade trees. I get there at daybreak, and I can sit in the shade until around noon. I've been hammering the blue cats at that spot. Today I am getting myself a portable cordless fan to carry with me. ;) I might even drop the kayak in the creek and cruise down to that spot for some suspend fishing. Stay cool cats!
I bought a pontoon to fish on just for the bimini top. Definitely a game changer.
I only fish for catfish at night. That's shorefishing. No one is out there at 3 am on a Tuesday.
Almost every channel catfish I've gotten has been over eighteen pounds. The last two were over fourteen though.
That's where I usually fish or I go just down to the left of the power plant near that creek. Haven't had much luck lately. Glad to see you catching right there though
Must have shade. A battery powered bucket top misting fan is great for keeping you cool in the boat. I have a Ryobi version which shares the same batteries as the rest of my power tools. I relocate my bimini top attachment points to give me the most room in the back of the boat for fighting and landing fish.
Great video and information
lol here in texas it’s 95 daily, i go out at 5pm and catch my bait on 2/0 circles and come back at night and catch dinner within maybe 2-3 hours it’s pretty efficient and u dodge the sun
In so Ok, we start at 6 am and head in at 9:30. Usually can beat the heat doing that and still get some fishing in.
I think chicken only work over the mid East or mid west. In California lake, sometimes some lake don’t work. But thanks for the video.
Thanks for the update and views 🇺🇲🇺🇦
Here’s one thing that really helps. Take a towel, every 20 minutes, soak it in water and squeeze it over your head. Or, get in the water. Instant rejuvenation.
It’s so hot that the Mississippi River temperature has been 80+ degrees where I live, it has shut down most fishing because nobody wants to be in the heat. I fished for about two hours and had to call it because I was sweating more than I could replace.
I found me a good place to catch me some good flatheads i caught 3 in about 25 minutes and i didn't have lets say enough weight the river was pushing 8 oz of lead 100 feet down river before hitting 30 feet deep bottom
Love my neck. Aci fish the santee lakes
I’m old and single and haven’t ran AC in years and lived in Texas all my life. Triple digits all week here. Turn off that AC and get used to it. Not an option if you’re married. It’s not the dry heat that bothers me. It’s those days when the humidity is sky high and sweats constantly dripping off you like water. I wear glasses and it’s annoying to have sweat on your lenses. Everything you have to clean the sweat off your glasses is also wet with sweat when your outside working.
Move to SC then. You’ll run the a/c. If that don’t cut it. Go to Alabama 😂 we don’t got no “dry heat” here. I’ve been in Pecos TX 113 degrees nothing like here at home. Promise that
@@pigchasing2633 I worked in Charlotte North Carolina and the heat index isn’t as hot as Texas. Houston has a higher heat index. It was 113 here last summer. 116 in west Texas last week. I worked in attics most of my life. 100 degrees outside feels like AC when you come out of an old house attic.
Damn Dieter. Come across the rover to the Charlotte Yacht Club and have a cup of coffee with me
When have been able to go fishing it has been hit the water around 0400 to 0430 and head home around 0930. By then heat index has been 110 plus and shade has shifted off my accessible banks. its brutal for me and my dog so we just head home and sit in the ac.
Good one Dieter. Does gear ratio really matter when your target fish are 25 lb or less?6.3:1 or 5.3:1 or 5.1:1? Might make a good video if you don’t already have one on it. Thanks
Fish at night .... but I'm from Wisconsin so it can get cold
Another great video. When your fishing for food, what is your weight range?? Just curious.
4-7 pounds is ideal....worth the trouble and the filets are not too thick...
Do blues bite shrimp?
I hydrate by eating watermellon for breakfast. Just watermellon and one egg scrambled.
Dieter what kind of race tracks do you go do work at ??? Oval ? Just curious
Very few of my favorite fishing spots allow night fishing so I don't fish in the summer.
What do you think about the catfish pro combo at Walmart? I was looking at the hellcat rods but 80 bucks for the walmart combo sounds like a steal!
The Catfish Pro rods are a good bang for the buck. Hellcats are great rods, but not everyone has that kind of money to spend. If you decide to buy a Catfish Pro rod from their website use the promo code catfish at checkout and you will save some money, and you can use the same promo code on the Big Cat Fever website.
@@DieterMelhorn thanks boss!
I surf fish until September then catfish when spawning is over
Its NEVER to hot to fish.I be out on the water 8 hours or more when I go and i don't take any drink AT ALL i just wait till i get home.
Its not normal for humans to wake up drinking and eating all day. This is why everyone is over weight you need to work for your food. We use to work for our an you didn't see OVERWEIGHT ppl everywhere.
Us as humans have becaome weak. The type of question "is it to hot" should never be a question just get out there
