Thank you for this video. You are seeing the results of two years of hard work to bring the museum back from being closed during Covid. We have only just begun our restoration efforts and welcome participation from the community we serve!

Its cool to see how the Sub right night to the Escort sink one of Japan's carrier in WW2, here in Texas. Went to visit the ship last Year it was fun even though about 60% was being worked on.

i would love to work here and just clean around the park or give tours to small groups of people but sadly live like 66 miles away, i can talk about naval warfare for hours and never get bored of it. people these days all go for the big boy battleships but they never realize that these small guys where the ones winning WW2 by protecting merchant vessels and sinking battleships biggest treats.. Submarines.

Some of our volunteers live much farther away than that. Come talk to us about what you would like to do.

If you would love it that much, can’t you move closer to Galveston? If you’ve got a wife who says no, tell her yaw need to do it for your country. Go Navy!

So cool to see since my Grand dad served on the Sellstrom DE-255.

My grandfather served aboard the USS Decker DE-47 as radio operator, the only thing he told was that he hated depth charges. They rattled his head and work space down in the ship

When I was 19, I was attending San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. I would sometimes go aboard the submarine USS Cabrilla. It was at that time located on the Houston Ship Channel. It still belonged the Navy Reserves at that time. It was open for tours when not being used for training. I'm not sure but I think it was still sea worthy at that time.

Took my son there in July and spent all afternoon going through and around both vessels. Just wish the gift shop had more options.

Our dear friend MM2 Al Schar served on the DE-16 USS Edgar G. Chase. After 60 plus years, I found him featured in a DE training film. Al said he was seasick alot. Made cruises into Morocco and other Mediterranean ports , escorted convoys. It was cramped quarters, cold at times. I would love to someday walk the decks of f the DE Featured to get a feel for what he experienced.

This ship is a destroyer ESCORT not a destroyer. A destroyer is much bigger. The ship identifier DE tells you that. You should update the label. Destroyer are marked DD or similar -- but not DE. Thanks from a friend who admires your work!

Grandpa served on DE 156. USS Donnell. Was torpedoed in north Atlantic. Spent next 9 months in hospital. I believe the ship ended up being the power for Sherbourgh France. Not sure I spelled that right
