  • This video illustrates person-centred counselling with a client, Martha (portrayed by an actor). It presents a full session with no commentary.
Martha, in her mid-20s, has come to counselling because she is feeling low: mainly centred around problems she is having with her boyfriend. Josh. She is not sure if she wants to continue in the relationship and is uncertain what to do. Martha loves Josh and finds him fun and exciting, but also experiences him as 'flaky', unreliable, and immature. This is the third session.
The therapy being practiced in this video is person-centred, but with a more 'experiential' focus than a classical, 'non-directive' approach. Empathy, acceptance, and congruence should all be in evidence here; but Martha is also encouraged to connect with some of her deeper feelings and experiences in relation to Josh. A description of the different currents in the person-centred approach can be found at mick-cooper.squarespace.com/n... Of course this is just one approach to person-centred therapy and different person-centred therapist may understand, and practice, the approach in very different ways.
You may find it useful to consider the practice in relation to person-centred competencies, a contemporary detailing of which are available through the 'PCEPS' form: www.bacp.co.uk/media/5752/pce...

It sounds like the coworker gets overwhelmed with his own personal life and would rather work through the overwhelm in a safer environment, considering her malice towards him and her being aggressive towards him. I had a boss like that and that was the worst workspace ever. A very toxic environment

It sounds to me like there is a trust issue between her and her bf.

She looks regretful taking about her frustration with her colleague. “Guys are so far behind in years of maturity” - not every person would react well to this comment if male or even if you are not a feminist, wonder how I would feel if male client said this to female therapist about women. “ I’ve apologised, mistake erased” (my response “To this guy apology equals accountability - job done - I’ve said sorry”). “He apologised , he is nice but yet I am disappointed” (response: a part of you is generous and that other part of you is not having it).

@@sallymander8579 Why call their opinion "weird"? That isn't very open minded of you. Who defines weird?
