Given how old this car is & how minimal its refresh was a few years ago… it’s a testament to Mazda’s design ethos that you’d probably never suspect this design came out so long ago. It’s aged really well.

Exactly, Mazda takes their time and designs it right so it lasts long time with just tweaks ...complete opposite to Kia and Hyundai doing redesigns every 2 yrs and all their work looks rushed and weird so Kia and Hyundai does not age well but affects resale value that is already pretty poor.
      Mazda is exact opposite

We bought the exact same year Carbon Edition like this with the red seats. We were fortunate that it came with everything, the Bose stereo, the power liftgate, heated seats, etc. and that nothing was deleted due to the supply chain shortages. It was difficult from an enthusiast perspective going from a Challenger Scat Pack to an SUV but we needed the ability to haul larger items, drive in all seasons and the insurance and gas costs in the Dodge were killing us. This was our choice over the Subaru Forester and others because we felt it was much more luxurious inside and we don't trust or enjoy driving anything with a CVT. We couldn't be happier with the Mazda. It is proving to be a great vehicle that we hope to keep for at least the next ten years.

  • @Michael-ur5qb

This vehicle has aged so well. I think they could pull a Subaru and just tweak and streamline the design and people would be happy. It’s a full 6” shorter than the CX-50 so I think they could keep both around. Maybe continue on with the compact size on the CX-5.

My CX-5 (2019) is as reliable as it gets, really comfortable, and I do not find any issues with the steering feedback at all. And I’ve owned VW GolfGTi, Audi A3 turbos and a BMW 3-series. The looks definitely have aged well, and the interior quality and look is awesome.

I just bought a CX5 last month, the same polymetal gray. Quite satisfied and enough for a family car. Because it is made in Japan, the tax rate for imported cars in Taiwan is really high, about 60%. So I spent about 35,000 dollars on the car I bought a CX5 2.0, which is quite close to the annual salary for a whole year. The annual insurance and taxes are about 1,500 US dollars. I don’t know whether it is high or low.

As an owner of a CX-8 (stretched CX-5 sold in Japan/Australia and other APAC markets), I initially was reserved about the non touchscreen.
But after living with it, I would not go back to touch (although Mazda should give an option).
The reason is simple. With the command knob you can select most things by muscle memory while looking at the road. And even when there are many scrolls, it require no dexterity whilst using the touchscreen requires both dexterity and taking eyes off the road.
So basically if you haven’t lived with system it sounds terrible but living with it’s good.
The steering hasn’t always been vague off centre. Sounds very unlike Mazda. But worth noting various countries have different steering tune. The US tune was done in the US by Mazda USA from US feedback. The Australian tune and Japanese tune are different but both have no vague centre.

Nice review. I've had this exact vehicle (including, unfortunately, the power liftgate/Bose speaker delete because of the chip shortage) for about 10 months and it's been fantastic: I still get a kick out of it every time I drive it. The one thing in the video that surprises me is the criticism of the steering and the comment that it has a lot of play on center, to the point where I wonder if your tester had an alignment problem or was a thrashed press car.
Before the CX-5, I had a 2017 Fiesta ST, a car with exceptionally sharp and quick steering. And while no, my CX-5 doesn't turn in or grip anything like the ST did, I find its steering as tight and sharp on center (no free play) as the Ford's--and it has a bit more road feel, surprisingly. In daily driving, I prefer the CX-5's steering to the ST's. Needless to say, on a twisty backroad, the FiST is FAR better. But for a "compromise" vehicle like a compact crossover, the CX-5 is plenty fun to drive.

I’ve had my ‘23 Eternal Blue CX-5 Signature since March, 2023 and enjoying it very much. It’s a huge upgrade over my former and unbeloved Lexus NX.
I wish Mazda would upgrade to wireless CarPlay. Only annoyance: every time I start it the radio comes on whether I want it or not.
Regular fuel performance is perfectly adequate and will never use the faddish and needless paddle shifters.
I have an aversion to fingerprints on a screen, so I’m glad I have to use the rotary dial for the infotainment. Voice recognition is very helpful.
Pano sunroofs squeak and rattle with age, so I’m glad I won’t hear that again. (Repeated trips to the dealer never addressed the problem even under warranty)
I talked a friend out of a ‘23 Rogue and he, too, loves his new CX-5.
Overall, very happy with my decision. This is a keeper!

Might be unpopular opinion here but the pre-face lift CX-5 signature headlights and taillights look better than the new ones. The new ones are more generic looking, too similar to new BMW ones, and the back on the face lifted CX-5 looks similar to the new CR-V. The angular outlined version from before is definitely more unique, has an older gen Audi feel, before Audi lighting design style went generic.

Moving to LA, I was considering a CRV or RAV4 Hybrid. But I really like the Mazda CX5. Am I a fool for thinking Hybrid might suit me long run living in LA or justified in that thinking, thus eliminating the CX5 as an option

I think this is a beautiful car, inside and out. No wonder it's a best seller for the brand. However, when driving these, I've never been able to get comfortable in the front seats. They are too hard and the lower cushion feels like it tapers off too abruptly , providing inadequate support for my thighs. I feel the cushion needs to come out closer to the back of my knee. I'm only 5' 6" so I don't need a lot of space. I found the same lack of comfort in the CX 50. However the CX 30 has a different seat, and it feels sublime by comparison.

The only two MAJOR problems with the CX-5 is the lack interior room and lack of good outward visibility. If they can just raise the roof two inches (2") and make it slighty more boxy - that should fix those problems.. But Mazda should keep everything else exacty the same!!! Especially keep the more traditional dashboard and traditional shifter.

Can't speak for the bigger/heavier CX-5, but the same non-turbo 2.5L engine in my smaller/sleeker 2022 CX-30 Carbon is plenty fine, & no worries about the more troublesome nature & reliability issues of a turbo engine in-genera, as well as the gutted MPG a turbo brings.

@@dystopia-usaThe cx30 is 350-400 lbs less than CX-5 so NA 2.5 engine is fine. But on the CX-5 only the turbo will do. It's simply amazing with the turbo.

I'm just shocked as to why there still isn't a hybrid CX-5 using the RAV4 hybrid system. I know the CX-50 is getting it, but not until like late 2024. I'll be dead by then. I do wish the CX-5 headliner was black, especially in this Carbon trim. All headliner should just be black or dark grey at least. Tan headliner is a sin.

    • @BrandonG8Man
      @BrandonG8Man ปีที่แล้ว +1

Because Toyota can’t produce enough hybrids for themselves let alone for another manufacturer. That’s the same reason the hybrid 50 keeps getting delayed.
