Medals awarded to Sergeant James F. Horner, 8th (Leeds Rifles) Battalion The West Yorkshire Regiment.

In addition to the earlier award of the Military Medal, Sergeant Horner was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in October 1918. The Citation reads:
"During an attack, when all the Officers became casualties he took command of the company and, collecting the few men around, he led them forward and captured the objective, where he consolidated. Throughout the operation Sergeant Horner's behaviour was splendid, and he set an admirable example of courage and leadership to all under his command until towards the end of the fighting he was badly wounded in the fire."
