I’m a fairly harsh critic of vocalists, but I don’t understand the hate on this. It’s a TV show theme, not a reach for a #1 spot on the pop charts. And, it’s no more cheesy or poorly arranged than the Full House, Love Boat, or Lavern & Shirley themes, and people still slobber on themselves remembering those tunes. I find this quite relaxing. 🤷♂️
She worked with Burt Bacharach in the 60s and he was critical of her voice. Someone described it as the "Cilla Honk". I think the criticism of her is all compounded. Her voice could be absolutely awful, but she was also a deeply unpleasant person in real life. Dionne Warwick for example absolutely hated her. When the brand name is said, the music crescendos to “Surprise Surprise”.

The weirdest shit gets lodged in ones deepest memories. I barely watched this show as a kid and I found it cringy as hell but I was just watching something completely unrelated right now and all of a sudden this song popped into my head out of the blue and I just had to search for it on youtube to remind me about it. I'd say it's amazing the shit that people used to watch back in the days but to be honest the crap people watch nowadays are in many ways 100 times worse....
