    "Motorcycle brakes are the life line to your safety on the road". Its your quote Mr.MD, to the conscious of your quote your explanation was splendid. I am from India, your way of approach towards cleaning and servicing was truly professional. Thankyou.

    The old hydraulic systems on my bike have been giving me fits constantly, and every time I get to your videos it really gets the attention to detail that I need to actually fix the problems. I want to make a hobby of restoring these 10k mile gems.

    Thanks for the info man! I've been fighting my 83' kz1100 calipers for a good while... - I cleaned up my entire calipers three times and it was still sticking. Until I watched your video I didn't realize that the calipers were supposed to move freely on those pens, LOL - now everything's in good working condition! You made a lifetime subscriber out of me thanks again man!

    Thanks so much for this video. I've cleaned mine up a couple of times and gotten it to work better for the time being. One piston still sticks and doesn't move as well as the other. Been avoiding rebuilding it and spent hours trying to just buy a new one. Well 1985 came and went leaving us with no new replacements today. So after seeing the video I feel confident in buying a kit and rebuilding mine. Cheers.

    Ive put a front brake lever on my dirtbike and it draged a tiny bit so i thought it would self clear on the pads by boy was i wrong, i didnt consider that brake fluid expands with heat so as the brake was draging it was actually applying more pressure cause even more heat and i went over the bars in about 4-5 mins of riding

      If you lubed them up with a little brake fluid they should flow right in with finger pressure.

  • @AlexKost-tq6bj
    @AlexKost-tq6bj ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you recommend getting the seals wet with brake fluid BEFORE inserting them? I'm guessing you want them to be lubricated on both the caliper body side and piston side? Or it doesn't matter seeing as they'll get soaked with fluid anyway once the caliper is filled with fluid?

I took them out, washed the calipers, and tried putting them back in and it just will not happen. Do I need to get new seals, or is there some sort of method you have to use or something? mongomay1 Using anything harder than the aluminum metal can result in scoring. Brass wire brushes work great. I think a extra stiff toothbrush would work wonders with the right chemical solution.

    Great vid. question On a 85 Goldwing front brake caliper, go to push in pistons to put new pads on and they wont go in, I can push 1 in at a time the other pushes out. so there not stuck. I opened the reservoir as well. I'm sure if I opened the bleeder screw or the brake line it would but not write. Any Ideas ??? Thanks

    • @munter10
      @munter10 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best method to push the pistons in, is to clamp the brake hose and open the bleed screw with a rubber hose connected going into a bottle. Then push the pistons in and they will go in a lot easier as the fluid has a shorter route to travel.

    Instead of using hoseclamp, you can press the brakelever half way in and secure it with with a strip or tape.
    If problem with bleeding, you can bleed it from the caliper with a larger syringe filled with brakefluid. Just make sure no air come in the system at the end. Air will travel up..... Make sure to emty the brakemaster canister first with the syringe.

    A really good product to use on any metal components is Corrosion-X - it binds magnetically and thus shows high resistance to pressure and heat. I haven't yet tested it on my brake pistons, and it may not be a good idea there - but virtually everything else - tools, fork legs, bolts, springs, exhausts, etc... it's even safe to use on electronics and other electrical components. The items will be extremely well protected against any kind of corrosion.
    I can highly recommend that product, which is even quite inexpensive. c",)

    20:33 Your better off not using the seals on this pin . they are a very common problem on these bikes and others that use the same calipers. The seals are not totally water proof and when some water does get inside the pin area the seals actually help to retain that moisture inside and that is what causes the severe rust that will lock it up. With out the seals the water will simply evaporate away and at the most you may only have just a little surface rust that won't lock up the caliper. I use just a very thin coating of water proof grease on the pin to help protect it. I have used this method for more than 20 years and have never NEVER had a customer bike return with the same problem. NOTE the upper pin at 29:11 does not usually have this chronic problem and the seal should be retained.
