    Shades of Reginald Dixon of many years ago, and playing medleys as he would’ve done. Bravo to this modern day organist who has nailed it. 👍

    What sublime Theatre Organ playing by David, and the sound and accoustics are to die for.

    What a cheering thing to hear this grand old organ sing.

      Actually, the organ was installed in 2014. It's a "new" instrument to the venue. The venue was home to a 3/13 Wurlitzer from 1935 - 1969. Volunteers from Cannock Chase Organ Club paid for and installed a new instrument, created from reclaimed pipework (some of it from the original Wurlitzer) and new pipework.

      @@OrganMusicYT It sure looks vintage. How old is that console?

    • @OrganMusicYT
      @OrganMusicYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WarrenPostma The console seen in the video is from the Ambassador Cinema, Cosham. It's a Compton console, which is temporary, built in 1937.
      The console seen in the video thumbnail is the console from the original Empress Ballroom Wurlitzer which is awaiting restoration and connection to the new organ.

      @@OrganMusicYT I am so glad there are people restoring these. I live in Canada far away from here, but whenever I think of England, I think of Wallace and Gromit, and Blackpool, and Organ music. :-)

      @@WarrenPostma the volunteers who have installed it travel from Scotland, Wales and all over England. They even had one chap come across from the U.S to help.

      The Balmoral Blues is a dance, the four tunes used are all pieces of popular music.

    Thank you for sharing. Just last night I was thinking of the Balmoral Blues at the Tower so even better to have footage of the fabulous Mr Lobban playing for it.

      Albeit not at the Tower. How lucky we are to have two ballrooms with Wurlitzers within 2 minutes walking distance!

    I never heard the Empress Ballroom live, only in a lot of recordings, which all sounded "dry" , with hardly any acoustics... THIS recording (to me) sounds beautiful, almost similar to the Tower Wurlitzer . THNX for posting!

    • @OrganMusicYT
      @OrganMusicYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plenty of the original Wurlitzer on here if you search for Horace Finch at the Empress Ballroom, plenty of reverberation present. One or two records were released that had been recorded close to the shutters, but the majority have plenty of reverberation, it's a distinctive feature of the "Empress" sound.

    • @jackraves7363
      @jackraves7363 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      THNX for your reply: when I first "started" listening (some forty years back) I was listening to Horace Finch on two albums, I think these recordings will have been made like you said, with mikes near shutters. The recording I have now been able to pick up were an ear-opener.. 😄

    Why is the console up in a balcony?

    • @OrganMusicYT
      @OrganMusicYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The console is on the balcony because there is no permanent stage floor. The current set up means that when large gigs are on the present stage area is set up as a bar. Placing the console on the balcony was the best option all round.

      David is an organist and has been for the vast majority of his life.
