Very well explained..! I have been fishing with multipliers all my life,... Although I do own fixed spool reels, ...but I never use them,... My first choice will always be a multiplier as I have many to choose from or my fly reels if I'm going to Spey cast for trout, salmon, or steelhead,... About the mag install, ... I'm in favor of a knobby mag because I can free up the mag after I cast to get more distance,... I'm not a distance caster but the benefits of a mag on multipliers are amazing..! I learned to cast multipliers when was 7 years old... I'm 63 now... back then, there weren't mags yet... Just centrifugal blocks but I have educated my thumb since then to cast long distances, .. Not that you need to cast that far but it's so cool to whip a lure 200 yards…! Cool video..🤙😎👌
The spools on multipliers do not need to be made of ferrous metal to be affected by a rare earth magnet due to the "spin hall effect." So you could fit them either end but as you say they need to by powerful enough to do the job.
Sorry, should have added yet another excellent video. I enjoy all your videos, even when you don't get the species or results you were aiming for, that's just real life fishing! Your videos about peeler carbs was a real eye opener to someone who just buys frozen. Glad that i kept you subscribed during your break and looking forward to the next video.
Glad to someone put a video how to mag these reels you can also mag the saltiga the same way. I use thinner magnets so I can stack them for more mag or take some off for less mag. Right now I have 2 sets of 4 magnets and I can add 2 more before it starts to rub the spool. Both reels throw amazing without having to touch the spool in the cast and still seeing 150 to 200 yards in the cast when fishing.
I've done just bearings & a complete clean & lube job for a few reels and knobby mag on one, but all of them do the 150/200 show.… my wonderings are, how far do these guys want to cast? 🙃?? I heard tell of a record at the tune of 900’ and change..! Now ain't that some shit...? 🤣🤣 Also saw an ABU 5000c spin for over 8 mins. I guess this person is going to shoot the moon..? Lol 😆
Excellent video mate and totally agree that a static mag is probably enough for general fishing because once it set most tend to leave it. Think you will have saved people a few pounds using static mags. MSSA.
Great vid pal.. they look fast reels out of the box👀 when i used to cast at n.w.s.a id set my abus for a 11/12 second start up time..good for getting a lead down the field but s**t for fishing..i go for five seconds for a big lump and 8/9oz..six seven for a double squid or a joey. .heard you can get a louder ratchet on them.. that's what id be more interested about 😁🤞
Can you do one on how to replace bearings. I have a siezed spool bearing can't work out how to remove the pin that goes through shaft to get bearing off
I've got the Saltiga and Saltist 50 models, which I use for sharks, rays, and larger gamefish. I recommend adding three 10 mm x 2 mm N52 magnets and keeping the white braking blocks for those larger reels. This setup seems to be the best compromise between free-spooling and control.
Good video again always informative on the reels especially. Wouldn’t buy one of these though as I didn’t the fathom either until penn brought it out with a mag already fitted. Lee it up Paul.
As previously commented you are incorrect in believing that a magnet has to interact with the ferrous spool spindle to achieve braking. Although it is rather difficult to believe, a spinning aluminium spool generates a magnetic field, and it is this that the magnet interacts with. If you examine the Magnafuge system on some of Daiwa's casting multipliers you can see that the cylinder thrown out by centrifugal force, bringing it closer to the magnets, is made of aluminium. Also, spinning a spool with your thumb on a test bench is not a useful system of assessing the effectiveness of centrifugal brakes. This type of braking only comes into play during the extremely high revolutions generated during a cast.
A single STRONG magnet will work . I compared some weak sauce amazon "refrigerator/toy grade" neo magnets and they didn't slow my saltist down much if anym even with several . A single strong 12 mm neo magnet from the hardware store cut the spin time in half. Unforutnately, its slightly too wide . I'm going back to see if they have any 10 or even 8mm magnets of the same grade.
if you found this type of content useful or helpful in anyway, please can you help me out and hit the like button on the video , and please subscribe for more content thank you. it helps me work out what i should be doing on the channel direction etc thanks again. th-cam.com/channels/Wbz_u8PCLgYjRRIrE9CDKA.html
Leave the blocks out and fine tune the magnet gives a very smooth reel when done .if you get some 1mm by 10mm magnets you can stack them and get a nice balance between distance and breaking. Iv done a pair of fathom 25N which are a bigger reel than those and they have been faultless for rough ground and big baits
The first multiplier i ever serviced i did with the help of one of your videos. Many thanks Paul.
Glad they helped

Certainly, the mono mag has big advantages over the static mag. Grate Wright up and good reply 👌 thanks.

Thanks, easy mod and works well 👍

Great vid mate been thinking of getting one so this has helped no end
Grate reels 100%
Excellent video .static mag is exactly what I've been looking for on a pair of reels for boat casting big baits when windy .thanks
works great glad it helped

Thanks, and yes there's is a louder ratchet upgrade out there I will be getting that done also soon.

Thanks, I have removed the brake blocks. Completely now and think the reel is fine now thanks
Top reel had mine maged
Very smooth cast and grate retrieve
