My ears feel comforted. High frequencies kind of hurt. This sounds really warm instead of harsh. Before I played bass, I played a fair amount of fingerstyle guitar. I wonder what some of those tunes would sound like an octave down. I never really considered the Bass VI because "it's not a real bass", but hearing it played more like a guitar is ear-opening.
This is so good, man! I've never been satisfied playing guitar, but it's tough to break out a bass for single-instrument singalongs. I've been looking for a video of a bass player handling that guitar. Thanks, Danny!
It would be cool to make a bass vi stereo and run the neck pickup to a bass amp and the bridge pickup to a guitar amp. Ideal for 2 piece bands [guitar and drums].
Ebay has bass VI necks super duper cheap. I bought one, slapped it on a hardtail strat body, screwed a bridge into the right place, routed a new spot for the bridge pickup, cut a pickguard out of cheap plastic, and screwed it all together. For a pile of trash with a $60 neck, it sounds incredible. It makes me wish more scale length options were available in general.
Strictly speaking, its a bass since the 4 lowest strings are identical to a normal bass, tuned to the same exact pitches. However, the string spacing is definately guitar-like which is why I sold mine after 2 months..i can’t play guitar.
I think my next bass wil be a 5 string and i will make the 5th string a C above top G. (rather than the usual low B) I will work on learning to play chords in the upper neck register. For me I’ll get the best of both worlds.
One of my favorite videos of yours to date! I bought one of these fun little things during pandemic like everyone else I have found, adding the state trim, bridge and much heavier gauge strings into a new nut to yield wonderful results as well. Play the.BEHS ya dipstick…
Great playing! Idk man I tried one out at guitar center bc I wanted one (I'm a huge Beatles nerd) and I freaking hated it! I thought "who is this for" and apparently it's for Danny sapko!
Yeah they really do kind of suck with the stock strings. They're too thin and floppy, makes em hard to play in tune. Try one with a thicker set and you might like it better.
Obviously AI!!! No behs player has THAT MANY fingers on their right hand!!!! In all seriousness, that was exceptionally and pleasantly done, sir. Cheers from Nashville!
Been thinking a lot about how great a band with someone playing one of these instead of a second guitar would sound. Bass, bass 6, guitar. That could get some awesome sounds spanning three octave ranges like that. Especially in metal. Forget baritones and down tuning.
