Packed full of goodness! Amazing find! Still in spec! That beep is awesome, wondering if it’s a dried up electrolytic hiding (don’t fix it). Love the indiglo backlight. Needs a tilt stand though 😮
That indiglo reminded me of my Timex back in the 90s ..same calm subdued display..love it. The beeper is actually performing as expected. I have other Waveteks and Meterman dmms with the same chirping. It's probably my only gripe with the meter! 😅👍
What a beast! It shows all the hallmarks of an industrial meter like the fluke 87, but the interface and software throw me off. Do you have any thoughts on who this meter would have been marketed too? BTW, I am so jealous of your multimeter collection.
Good question! I am not really sure what the target market was for this model, I would say the Professional as well as the advanced home hobbyist. My father who was also into Electronics, usually used Waveteks as they were still less expensive than a Fluke but offered the same robust build quality and input protection. As mentioned, I'll do a follow-up on the software and post it on keepontesting.com when completed. 👍 Thx for the kind words on my multimeter collection. It's always fun looking for that next vintage "multimeter "..😅
It is like the older Tektronix scopes, they just scream "oscilloscope" for me, from the teal back to the knobs. THOSE ARE SOME BIG CLIPS! The beeps sounds like an old timer! EL backlight too, why there isn't more like that (from Indiglo to G-SHOCK illuminator they are everywhere) and also a beauty inside. No threaded inserts for the case screws though, that 9v battery surely won't last that long...more like we party like it's 1999!
It's very pretty. I am sure that my Amprobe 37XR started life as a Wavetek, but I assume a little later. Do you know when the Wavetek/Meterman/Amprobe/Fluke amalgamation happened? Was it in stages or all at once?
It happened in stages, beginning in"98" by Wandel & Goltermann.Hence WWG. Eventually, Wavetek became Wavetek Meterman and would later become Amprobe. Fluke also owns Amprobe after Christian Beha sold his shares to the Fluke company in 2003. It's really a sordid history with lots of Americana politic thrown in for good measure!
OMG! Really in all those years we got little extras like Lithium rechargeables full auto and endless NCV in smaller units at a better price. But soft power switches are a step backwards! Even getting a bluetooth version is hard to find. Now Australia has a comedian technician: Time to outdo his Bobby Dazzlers, Winner Winner Chicken Dinner quotes. He challenges every TV tech to discharge the 400V reservoir caps in the ohms ranges.
Had 2 china fluke , 15 and the new 15B plus max and both has gone defective , china fluka are crap an expensive crap ,,so now its time for at cheaper meter , what can u recommend for a 50 usd autorange multimeter ? min max function available on cheap multimeters ?
I once tried to connect this chirping piezo replacing a walkman speaker, the cassettes songs and music sounded like chirping!
I hate it when that happens 😂

I could've never taken off the plastic film. You're bolder than I!

Can you do a review on new brymen series BM2800? The most barebones one for example is BM2803.
That Brymen looks old school for a new Multimeter, I like it. .. I'll add it to the list. 👍
