K swapped RD1 CRVs have been around for a while. First gen CRVs are based off the 6th generation Civic. A lot of the stuff you can do with the Civic can be applied to the CRV. Typically people use the EK K swap mounts with some spacers. Also those are normally done with manual transmissions. We are using the automatic transmission for this one. AWD autos are so much easier to obtain and usually at a lower price. The plan is to get our swap working and make an CRV specific mount kit for Hasport to produce. We figured that we had a good starting point, but then quickly realized the auto transmission is a different beast.

Yay! More rd1 stuff! Id love to see a kit with the oem subframe but I understand its a pretty bulky subframe. Either way, this would be an awesome swap that ive been toying around with since jdmnugget swapped his!

Definitely doing this for my RD1 .......
It should be a great upgrade. People have done the manual swap before so we've seen how much better it is with that K series power.
@@VTECAcademy with all the extra hood clearance in the rd1... turbo with RDX top mount intercooler? with a manual behind it for me. but if it could be done with all factory components besides the mounts themselves. that would be sweet.
For the sway bar you can use 00 integra gsr end links I just did an awd kswap in my rd1

I have a free crv and need a new daily. Back surgery and slammed cars don't get along lol. Auto with working air conditioning would be awesome.
Seen this swap done a lot recently. Tempted to do it myself soon on one of my RD's Already replaced one with a JDM B20, but the nicer one is still on the OG 280k motor that has snapped 2 timing belts. Compression is decent still, but who knows.
P.S. RD1 owners, Adjust Your Valves! It's a bit tedious, but simple, and will save your engine, and bring some of the lost power back.

Yeah, the 5 speed auto was in the later version and we'll probably go with that on the final swap.
Nice R&D on this… I bought my wife an auto RD1 for her first car in America. Now she has a newer car, I have a CRV sitting around… and I’ve always wanted to do a K swap.

I have an 03 awd 5 speed crv. And a tsx k24a2 swap. Always loved the rd1 crv
i like the second gen crv's a lot. but the rd1's more conventional suspension and what appears to me more engine clearance. seems cool.
given how much room there is above the engine on the rd1. a turbo with top mount from the RDX would be cool!
even if you were just lightly boosting the k24a1. if they'll fit you could use the intake manifold, valve cover, and possibly the factory RDX top mount intercooler.
if another one shows up to the junk yard im going to pull all that stuff and see how it fits up on a k24a1

This is what I’ve been talking about and hasport just uploaded a video 😱 about it. I bought my rd1 auto cause I alrwady have a 5spd integra and tired of driving 5spd. But the awd b20 auto is just too weak. I want k power rd1 auto awd let’s goooo.

In the first part of the video you talked about test fitting the K en the J, but i can't find the video.
Yeah, when Brian said that we realized that we never released that video. Once we locate it, we will get it out there.
somwhere on YT there's a video with honda elements with J series swaps. also compelling. i just hate how cramped a transverse V6 application is to work on.
Should do a DQ250 DSG mounted to it…. It would be a BEAST!!!!
That transmission is so bulky behind the engine. It would probably require some custom parts other than an adapter plate.

If you wait, then you can use a CRV specific mount kit from Hasport. If not, you could use the EK stuff slightly modified.
what engine management would work with the auto trans? i have an auto trans and ecu from the donor tsx i took the motor from..../hmm
We're going to use a second gen CRV ECU at first.
Look at k tuner supposedly works for the auto

is the auto trans you're using the 4 speed or the 5 speed? do you know if they are different dimensionally?
We are using a 4 speed auto, but we don't think the dimensions are that different on the 5 speed autos.
I have a manual
I own an all stock auto 1998 RD1. It's the most anemic thing I've ever driven. An air cooled VW has my get up and go than this thing.
I think we need an upgrade.
@@VTECAcademy I would love to k24 swap mine. It's my daily. Once I find a new daily, it's going to happen, then immediately taking it to the tail of the dragon.
What about the second gen CRV? Would be nice to make the wife’s automatic CRV a bit more “powerful”.
A TSX K24A2 would be a nice upgrade.
Just needs one of the OEM TSX mounts (I think it's the front one). Oh, and an ECU upgrade. Lot's of people do this on Honda Elements. ;)

Guys, is there somewhere I can email some questions? I have a 01 Cr-V that I really want to covert to manual I literally have everything aside the wiring harnesses even the difficult stuff like shifter box and rear seat heater ducts. I’m seeing TH-cam videos with prople converting the auto harness to work but a lot of it seems kinda sketchy. If the auto harness can be modified reliably enough there are like 10 auto CRV’s in the junkyard I can rip the harness out of to modify.
@vtecacademy - For the lifted RD1's using engine and sub frame drop kit, will they still work with these mounts? Or is that something HRG and Aerogenics need to figure out?
This is great, I am going to wait for this.
I advise against a big lift, the CRV kinda sucks with larger wheels. If you want to do more than moderate trails, buy a real 4x4 with lockers and a crawl gear. I suggest a hilux. Been there, done that.
@@nobodynoone2500 my lift is only 1" front and 2" rear not a big lift at all with a 1" engine and sub frame drop and 1" rear trailing arm drop spacer. But this swap would really give the under powered RD1 a much needed pep in it's step.

@@bautroiconnecticut5201 seems a bit high, but depends on the quality of the job, and sourcing the trans. The engines are plentiful.
how do u deal with the ecu and auto controls
I will use an automatic ECU. Probably a 2005 Accord ECU.
