It's not so much forgotten, it;s just that about EVERYONE that worked on Xenogears is no longer part of Square, and made their own Company, Monolith Soft, makers of Xenosaga and Xenoblade. :)

not ashamed to admit it, this made me cry tears of joy to see. i get a bit weepy over Xeno, that was the one mech i always loved the most as a kid. it seems square is paying a bit of attention to gears lately with the Weltall cameo in Figure Heads and now this. given that FF7 which basically was the watered down story taken from Xenogears is getting its remake now, maybe they are sorta dropping nuanced hints that they are interested in a Xenogears remake/update? i'll be realistic and say probably not but who knows. i'd sure love square even more if they did.
No? They were developed by the same team and share a few vague thematic similarities but otherwise they're completely different games. Xenogears was pitched as a sequel to Chrono Trigger during the very early stages of its development, though.

The game was amazing but it had a major potential for sheer greatness if they had more time and budget. Sadly we probably won't be alive to witness that day. Shame.

Well considering that Square Enix has given more love to Xenogears than Squaresoft did the point is moot. But on the other hand Xenogears and Xenosaga were incomplete, Xenoblade Chronicles X had a bunch of story DLC that released on disc in the west considering that dude in the epilogue sequel teaser wasn't in the vanilla Japanese release and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna The Golden Country existing maybe just maybe... it's Takahashi's fault. After all he is the only constant in all of this.

It doesn't have to be an FFXV tier eyegasm either. Just design it like the modern Disgaea games. Hi-res 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds (sound familiar?). Just please no more homages, no more "nods", no more spiritual successors. Saga and Blade are just teases. Give us the real Xenogears story and the real Xenogears characters.
Vittorio Pugliese if only xenogears was given the FF name it would not have been forgotten or overshadowed by the majority of squaresoft/enix fans. Still it having its own identity besides just another FF title is why its such a dear game to me as I chose it as my fav over any of the ps1 ff games as a kid. I do have to at least thank ff8 for including the xenogears demo in the case though😅i remember being to ecstatic as a kid when my eldest brother went and bought the game for us to play because I'd rather play the demo over his ff8 at the time.

Didn't Xenogears have a red chin piece originally? This seems to be based on Weltall's Xenosaga incarnation.
It's absolutely Ω XG, not OG Xenogears. The faceplate, head fin, wing binders and everything else line up with Universitas and Omega Id.
