Lin and I have camped in CNM for over 50 years off and on. We even took the Airstream in the last time. The lights of Fruita glowed in the distance. I ruined my left knee on the trail down to the valley floor and back up again. We had to go to SLC to find a hotel with a jacuzzi to treat my knee. ~GH

I camped at Saddlehorn for 5 nights last summer and loved it there. There are some fantastic campsites. Where you actually park your RV is close to the road. But the sites come with a picnic table back off the road and just a few steps further takes you to the cliffs across from which you can see the road and tunnels headed up top side.

I CANNOT BELIEVE how good Brodie was during his grooming. My dog won't stand still for much grooming. He is an miniature Australian Shepard and we have to trim his britches once in a while. That is always a small battle, but we get it done. Your pups are great!!! I enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoy seeing you guys. Take care.

He is a VERY GOOD BOY! Just the most sweet natured goofy happy boy. We spent a ton of time training our Brittany, Madley, and when we adopted Brodie he picked up her good manners. We consider ourselves very lucky to be their humans 🥰 Thank you, we hope you’re doing well.

@@EmbracingDetours Yep, I just love those pups. They are so cute. That's one reason I like your videos so much. The last one started off with Madley looking out the windshield with her head on your shoulder. A dog is an animal that will love you more than you love yourself. We sure love our boy Gus.

We rarely plan our trips with full on reservations etc, so I have to admire & I guess just enjoy that you are so flexible and are ok with being at a KOA, boondocking and/or where ever you end up and are still smiling. We totally do the same and end up having a great (or sometimes not) amazing experience! That road wow! And I never have room in the footwell of our truck when we travel either!

That part of Colorado is so wonderful. We did a number of summers working as camp hosts at Ridgway SP near Montrose/Ouray during our RVing days. Hope you got a chance to stay there for a while in September. The color would have been awesome. Nice job on the dog grooming!

Love Colorado's National Monument. In 2010 for 25th Anniversary we took a trip from Nebraska out west with Vegas as our main destination since we've never been there. Our 1st night we stayed in Grand Junction and happened to come across it when we were looking for something to do. We saw 3 amazing National Parks in Utah Arches, Bryce & Zion and can't wait to go back to Utah someday! From Vegas we took a day trip to see the Pacific Ocean at a California state park between LA & Malibu. We saw live dolphins for the 1st time and played in the ocean. Vegas was a nice place to visit but I don't think we'll go back. After Vegas we saw Hoover Dam on our way to see our final National Park the Grand Canyon which was mouth dropping spectacular and amazing! From there we stopped by 4 corners and Pikes Peak. Our 25th anniversary was the best vacation ever! Stay safe and keep Embracing Detours love your videos! ❤

What a truly spectacular 25th anniversary trip, you guys saw some incredible sights on that trip!! We also can’t wait to get back to Utah, Zion has been my favorite park yet and we didn’t have nearly enough time there. We feel the same as you about Vegas, but some of the sights outside of the city (Red Rock Canyon & Valley of Fire) are amazing and well worth a visit. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

Hello, So glad you made it to Colorado. Like i wrote before, the big fire in the Fruita area was out, so no smoke in the air and the Aspens are in full GOLD. Being a Colorado Native I visited the Grand Valley many times in my youth, when they grew large amounts of fruit orchards, produce, cattle-horses. I also lived in Grand Junction for 22 years until 2013. The Monument is a hidden gem because it is not a National Park, however it receives 600,000 visitors annually. The Monument and a very large area surrounding it: (McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area consists of approximately 123,430 acres which includes the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Study Area, more than 75,000 acres, two miles southwest of Fruita. Included in the the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, is the second-largest concentration of natural arches in North America, Rattle Snake Canyon. Just to the south of the Monument is Part of The Old Spanish National Historic Trail. The Domínguez-Escalante expedition traversed part of this trail in the Mesa County Area. The Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area comprises 210,172 acres of protected public lands, and includes the 66,280-acre Dominguez Canyon Wilderness, which you traveled through to get to Black Canyon NP. In short The Monument is the corner stone of a very large wilderness study area with many wonderful natural landscapes, as you have witnessed. Wile living in Junction I always told my visitors, or tourist that I met, that the Monument is the top of the Grand Canyon, of course most Geologist do not agree with that statement, however, it is the start of the red sandstone you follow down the Colorado River to the Yuma, AZ Canyon, and deep with in Ruby Canyon inside the National Conservation Area there is the "Black Rock Formation" of exposed black rocks that date to 2.5 Billion years old, that is roughly half the age of Earth. These "Black Rock Formations" are rare and usually hard to get to, like at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. If I may go from Black Canyon NP to the Great Sand Dunes NP. This time of year, temperature, crowds, camping at its best. There are Bison grazing near the dunes!!!

My wife and I just finished a week-long loop through the Western Slope of Colorado. It appears that we have been about a week behind you, and in the same locations. You have already passed it by now, but after the first day for us at the Colorado National Monument, we spent the secong day doing the Scenic Byway across Grand Mesa, coming out at Delta. The next day, it was the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Nat'l. Park (alt. 8,000+) where my wife felt she was oxygen-deprived. Three campgrounds there, but the "B" loop had electricity! (Wow!) Onward to Cotez, and Canyons of the Ancients Nat'l. Monument, Mesa Verde Nat'l. Park, and then Hovenweep Nat'l. Monument on the way home. I am looking forward to see what you took in heading through SW Colorado. Best wishes!

We loved Black Canyon of the Gunnison! We felt like it’s under advertised. We’ve never heard of that monument either but it looked spectacular. I was sort of expecting a Hemingway reference after y’all’s last video😁. Always good stuff that y’all explore 🤙

No Hemingway history in Grand Junction that we’re aware of! Black Canyon took my breath away - I agree, absolutely underrated.

Beautiful area indeed! I was just 'getting in to' the video, when the end appeared! It could have been twice that long with that kind of scenery, albeit I understand the challenges of editing on the road. We still have never been to Colorado, so I"m always looking for such places as this National Park, and other adventures you two find along the way. A big thanks from us Canadians, unable at this time to enjoy the many locations in the wonderful U.S.A.!

Colorado NM is on my list for next time in that area. Awesome scenery footage. Did you ever drive Shafer Trail and Potash Road. Starts at Canyonlands NP entrance and heads toward Moab. Very cool drive in 4WD vehicle. Travel safe.

I have another one for your list in that area that we missed - Rattlesnake Canyon Arches.
      www.visitgrandjunction.com/blog/how-find-amazing-arches-rattlesnake-canyon
4WD trail to get to the arches so much less traveled. Unfortunately, we didn’t learn about it until we were already gone but it’s supposed to be spectacular - it’s on our list for next time.
We did do Shafer Trail in Canyonlands in our friends Subaru and we’re happy to not have attempted those switchbacks in the Monster Van!! It was an awesome trail but tight!!!

Embracing Detours I did switchbacks up and down in Jeep on one trip, then on mountain bike on 2nd trip. Switchbacks are the beginning of the White Rim Trail (100 mile, 4 day MTB ride). Thanks for tip on Rattlesnake. You will enjoy Grand Canyon of Gunnison. Beautiful geology.

7.3L Powerstroke Diesel. 156k miles and TJ says we could always use more power lol. In all seriousness, we're not the fastest up the mountains but she chugs along and always gets us there.

Wow, you’re right! The Monument truly is spectacular 😳 Why is it called the Colorado Monument? Is it a Federal monument or...? Thanks again, guys, for a wonderful video tour. The quality of your productions is so consistently good - we can’t wait to see your next release. Be safe and have fun!

    • @tooligan113

the Colorado National Monument is a Federal Monument, it encompasses more than 20,500 acres, (32 square miles) of sandstone cliffs and monoliths, scenic canyons, and sparse vegetation. The area draws 600 thousand tourists each year and has become one of the most iconic landscapes in the state. Rocks at the foundation of Colorado National Monument date from nearly 1.7 billion years ago, Earth is 4.5 billion years. As recently as 2014, Colorado politicians once again encouraged Congress to designate the monument as a national park. The problem with becoming a national park is what land area would become the park. There are hundreds of thousands of acreage adjacent to the monument designated wilderness study lands. Many want this land included into the national park. Politicians, congress, parties of interest cant come to an agreement. The monument is a part of National Park Service, it is run and funded by the NPS with additional funding from Friends of the Monument. The word monument was chosen because, In 1910 Colorado senator Simon Guggenheim introduced a bill to Congress to create such a park, but congressional deadlock threatened to kill the legislation. So, on May 24, 1911, President William Howard Taft exercised his authority under the 1906 Antiquities Act to create Colorado National Monument.
