My two teenage boys love Steeley Dan. This was an amazing rendition made on the fly.

Been a 70s Rock fan for 30 years, but never got round to studying Steely Dan until my uncle showed them to me last summer. He died last month. I will carry the torch onward.

The beautiful and amazing thing about watching this extraordinary talent play music whether his 100% originals or his 95% originals.. 😃.. is he just plays his heart out! He's not there to imitate anyone. This guy has his own way and his own path. He's confident in his impressive abilities and he's not afraid to take the chance of doing something "wrong". I've watched dozens of videos and I don't see where he's ever played something wrong! It's Dovydas interpretation and conveyance.. take it or leave it.. and I think everyone who comes into contact with this performer is taking something away from it! It's totally obvious this guy is as original as they come. He's not tied into anything.. any one particular sound or audience. The guy is a hell of a talent!

I love Steely Dan! I’m a 62 year old retired art/music teacher. The music I taught was for K-2 students so very simple. I have tried to learn guitar at 12 yrs, 45 yrs and now taking lessons again since I am retired. Want to be able to play 1/2 as good as you! Do you think I’m to old to learn that much?

OMG! I could listen to him ALL DAY LONG!!! Its hard to put into words how masterful and creative he is when playing his guitar. Add to the fact that there are several songs he has to "learn" first. I MUCH PREFER his versions that the originals...and everything that he adds to the songs sound like that's exactly what should be played in that exact moment in the song...very harmonious and fluid. Its almost magical. His playing makes me very happy!
I would love to see a tv competition that takes all the best street performers and gives them a stage.
Not AGT type of over produced sh*t , but a genuine showcase of all the hidden talent out there.
Once it becomes a TV show then you see over produced content. those people on AGT are the same people like this man. There are so many performers that a viewing audience will watch and the producers will have to condense them all in a pretty little package for a hour of viewing pleasure. Sorry not an hour 40 mins, gotta pay people so we need commercials.

Never heard Dovydas do a poor half-hearted attempt at a song. They have ALL been good quality renditions, very nice. He is never afraid to stretch himself, great musicians are always learning and trying new stuff.

i was thinking he should do "Go Back Jack" - Then halfway thru i realized that that was what he was attempting to do .. lol it was a decent quick learn variation ..... but i think he is at a point he needs more constructive critisizim here... because it isn't just that easy to "get it".. Auto tune cannot cover everything ... lol - The 70's classic needs a lil more practice to perfect them though to tuned listeners ears...

I'm not disputing this man's guitar skills, but if you listen to Do it again, you would realize his version needs some more practice and the singing... let's just say its in need of some fine tuning.

He does his "interpretation" of the song so it can be monetized on TH-cam. It is pretty amazing to me that Dovydas can "riff" off a song and do his interpretation of it, on the fly.

I’ve watched this for literally the past year and every day. This rendition is so great because the lyrics are just great and that chorus is sung in such an awesome and low-energy way. It’s true rock and rolllllllllll
Lyrics were wrong but the music sounds great. As a big Steely Dan fan for years, I loved it.
He was improvising, not trying to recite the lyrics perfectly. That's what makes him such an amazing talent. He doesn't cover songs, he re-imagines them.
When the kid dropped in some money, I was suddenly reminded of the old Melanie lyric, "They put in a nickel and I sing a dollar song." Musicians who are out there busking on the streets are the realest of the real, following their dreams and doing it for passion. But you sometimes neglect the fact of how sad a life it could also be---cause it's not just playing for passion, is it? It's also about pleasing people and their passing whims. They pass by and they hear you, they wanna rest for a minute and listen to their favorite song, so they pressure you into playing it and learning it, and though they don't say it, they measure your worth by your ability to play what they say. If you do a decent job, they cheer and clap, and they leave you some change, and then they breeze on back into their routines and their next thing, and you're lucky if they remember you the next day. Okay, they'll remember you, but only as the roadside attraction. They'll recount it one day as "remember that guy who did a Steely Dan improv? He was good!"; "yeah, he was alright, what's his name?" "David something---with the goatee, Dave Days? I think he was Greek." "Hey, Greek sounds good! Let's get some Feta cheese!"
Of course Dovydas has the TH-cam, and the online business and loyal following, but others aren't as lucky. The reality for most of them is that they go out there to play their music expecting to eventually "make it" if they do it enough, but instead they learn the 50 different ways to sing "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and they become jaded of their own music. Not particularly throwing shade, I love Jim Croce. But my point is just, nobody really stops and asks Dovydas what he wants to play, do they?
But hey, that's the life of it, you go back, Jack, and keep on doing it again until the wheels start to turn in your favor.
Although I think he's very lucky to have a wife and partner who supports him in his art and passion. I think that's important in a man's success.
In fact, that's what I'd be interested to hear next---the music that they both enjoy. What do the Dovydases want to play?
