Ooh, horrid conditions. I guess the camera makes forward vis seem a bit worse, but I'd have in mind VFR - clear of cloud, surface in sight.. What alt was the higher ground you flew over? A lesson like that certainly makes you realise you don't want to fly in those conditions, it's just no fun! And you have so little time in a glide from that low height if the engine quits. I'm enjoying the videos, well done!
Yes, it was definitely a challenging flight and as you say, I learnt a lesson from that day! The higher ground wasn't that high, only 768ft with a mast up to 840ft, both above ground. But combined with a low ceiling, there's not much space to move through it! Yes, engine failure would require very quick thinking, luckily the route has lots of fields but at 1200ft - 1500ft you are basically at your low key position ready to turn onto the approach.
