    i have an original pair of the dxr15's that are about 3-4 years old now.i have them paired with a kw181 sub and wow.as you said,you can then put the switch on back to flat.these speakers absolutely breath well in the open air.i rarely have to turn much more than 1/2 volume even in a gym..i bought them when i was doing some side dj jobs but they are mainly hanging in the corners of my new shop now and are pure overkill..better to have to much than to little though

    But Yamaha are more prices less wattage but more DBS I think that would be a good comparison to do

    I’m interested to hear how these compare to the RCF HDM45A and 945a. My 10 year old DXR15mk1’s have been brilliant. They sound great and I haven’t had a single issue in the 10 years of heavy use! I come across new products all the time but haven’t found anything that can outperform these at this price.
    However, as they are now 10+ years old I’m considering replacing them and the DXR15mk2 is the most likely option but I’m intrigued to hear the RCF HDM45A and 945a as they have larger compression drivers with lower crossover points and higher powered amp modules. Will be interesting to hear how they compare (though they cost at least £1000 more and I’m not sure they’ll sound that much better if at all).

    Hey man, thanks for these videos. I am considering the DZR315 as well as the 15 and 12 model for different purposes. I heard you say the 315 is a stack on top of subs speaker. How do you get them high enough if you aren't flying? Do you always use 2 18 subs a side just for height?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I sold mine because of lack of versatility. They sound great and make a good stack on top of two of the DXS18XLF but I found myself pole mounting a DXR15MKII on top of a single sub more often than using a full stack with the DZR315. But of course there have been lots of changes to my business since covid. I do way more corporate events now. I wish I would have gotten the DZR12's and the DXS15XLF.

    • @thedroid4ever
      @thedroid4ever 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAngrySoundTech My initial thoughts are to consider the drz12's and the 18 subs, then maybe get the 315's later for gigs that would require a further throw. I'm just concerned about how the 12's would perform for full range music. Do you think they'd be loud enough for a few hundred people indoors and out?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are designed to be used as a wedge. Just make sure you flip the switch to the monitor setting as that will reduce the ground coupling of the bass.

    Hey Brian. When you run your Yamaha tops with subs, do you run the D Contour at FOH or off?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I typically run with it off. Mostly because I'm not a huge fan of high end boosts. But one of my DJ's always puts speakers into boost or FOH mode. At your next gig I'd play a song you know and like then walk the room with FOH on and off and see which you prefer. Make sure you listen both up close and at a distance.

    You say soo much yet you dont say anything. What the point of pointing out the same thing over and over and going on about all the features on the speaker that we already know. I'd rather hear about how the speaker sounded, if it was loud enough, comparing it to other speakers and the performance of it overall.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always tell people when it comes to subs I'd rather have one really good sub instead of two mediocre subs. So I would recommend getting a DXS18XLF or DXS15XLF. But in my inventory I have DXS12MKII's and DXS18XLF's because sometimes i just don't want to carry around a DXS18XLF. If I could only have one I think I would buy the DXS15XLF and maybe add a second one down the road but I'm not sure if a second one would be needed.

      Yes, I do like the sound of the DXR MKII series. I used them for a live band the other day and it sounded really good. So I am a big fan of the way theses sound. The one issue seems to be the vibration issue. On the plus side it's not noticeable in the front of the speaker. You can only hear it on some songs and from behind the speaker. Most of my DAS audio gear is gone now. I think I'm down to 7 of the Action 12A's and 2 of the Vantec 18A's. I use the DXS12MKII's with the 10's.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gator makes good cases! I own a lot of gator cases. It really just depends on what kind of case you want. I wanted the ability to keep the case on while using the speaker so I went with the Yamaha cases. But I strongly considered getting some gator cases myself and had I not wanted the rain and sun protection during outdoor gigs. I probably would have just went with gator cases.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You own the DXR12MKII's and are experiencing a vibration caused by resonance? Unfortunately if this is the case I don't think there is much that you can do about it besides adding a subwoofer to the system so you cut some of the lows out of your top cabinets. That seems to help with my DXR10MKII's.

      I would assume the previous generation had the same resonance. They didn't change much with the build except for an updated compression driver. Although there is updated tuning so maybe that could have enhanced the resonance.

      Hi, I had the same issue with the yamaha dzr12 and return them, the "kind of a solution" is to cut the frequency that is causing the problem, get a graphic EQ and just turn down the frequency giving the problem. Anyway, in my opinion ,any speaker giving this type of problem I would return it and look somewhere else.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      QSC makes some good stuff. I used to have the original K12's. At one point I was going to turn my whole rental inventory into QSC but we grew a lot and needed a line array. I had the KLA12's at the time and they don't make a powered version of the Wideline-8 so I swapped brands. Now I'm back to downsizing and sold my line array. Part of what was keeping me away from QSC was that their product lines were getting pretty old. I thought they were focusing too much on their install gear and not enough on live sound. But with the K12.2 and the new sub they're finally beginning to update their product lines.
