I'm an Indonesian. The fact that a lot of "tourists" live and work here and not pay taxes. Instead of helping our economy, they steal customers from our locals.
I hope you make 1 minute video calling out these kind of "tourists" behavior in Bali someday.
Maybe Bali should have a permanent residency program with 0 requirements besides registering with a 10% income tax or something. Until then, it's not the foreigners' fault. Also, many of us pay taxes back in the West. Should we pay twice?
@@spicysalsaking791 Dual citizens pay twice so I'm not sure what the issue is personally about paying double taxation since in this situation, the immigrants are from countries where they earn more than the locals and live there because it's "affordable" compared to the locals who don't have conversion rates to rely on and thus getting outsourced. (I think this is the point of the original commentator). Also, the only reason I speak on this is because double taxation applies to me (Dual Nationality).
@@spicysalsaking791 I also believe circumstances are different when looking at foreigners from less wealthy nations going to the west (where lots end up in labor intensive, low paying jobs) to provide for a better life for their families back home vs. Westerners and other more financially capable foreigners (compared to said foriegn land), (whether it is the intention or not) moving to a country such as Indonesia, Philippines, etc. and (disclaimer: not all, but this is an unintentional effect) outcompete locals for a better life.

As an expat living in Indonesia for the past 10 years, I highly recommended staying out of the big tourist spots. People try to act like they've been here forever when they're on a tourist visa, and been here for less than a year. Most go back within three years and they learn nothing about the culrure.

foreigners take advantage of the affordable prices and hospitality making it difficult for the actual Balinese people to live there. As an Indonesian, it annoys me so much whenever i see a post about "spent a year in bali" or "move to bali" because it quite literally feels like modern day colonialization. Adding to the fact that most foreigners also never seem to appreciate the rich culture of Bali and often times disrespect it as well.
