- Kirstie and Eric Austin's daughter is living with one of the rarest fatal diseases in the world. In 2021, Emma was rushed to the hospital after having a seizure. Genetic testing determined she has Batten disease. Younger children usually don't live more than five or six years after symptoms begin, according to the Cleveland Clinic. "That is the most hopeless, helpless feeling you can carry as a parent," Kirstie Austin, Emma's mother, tells Inside Edition Digital's Andrea Swindall.

This is so sad! My family friend was diagnosed with battens disease 2 years ago and he is 6 currently, but the doctors said that he will likely within a few years. He can’t walk by himself, He can’t eat by himself, This is just such a horrible situation to be in.

Why don't you get help?? Do you live in the USA? I lost a friend to Battens and her daddy had a lady who helped to take care of his two daughters who had Battens and he got disability for them

Very sorry for what this family goes through. But sadly I don’t think they’ll be a cure for Emma in time. But for future generations they may one day have a cure. She’s a fighter that’s what’s important. Living the best life she can!
I pray God heal Emma from Batten's disease and also heal any other child that has it or any child having any other rare disease. I pray that her mother be healed from despair, suicidal thoughts and fear and hopelessness and that God send his healing angels to restore the health of Emma , if it is his will in Jesus name. Amen. I had a similar situation 😞 when my daughter was born with a rare genetic disease. It is tough to explain to family and people our situation. The doctors told us that the life expectancy is a 1-year-old, but my little Frances had five years with us 🙏🕯🎀. Also, I was scared to have another child, but God had another plan. My son was born, and at least he was playing with his sister for a year 😊.
Our healthcare system is a total joke even when compare to the 3rd world. Feel horrible for the family

I believe it’s not God but our own illnesses and diseases and medical conditions that we created by not obeying His will. I’m filthy filthy so I can’t judge. Our ancestors did this to us. But I also believe in reincarnation 😅so we did it to ourselves but in different bodies.
That's a common sentiment. It does seem unfair that a child would have to suffer when God can easily intervene. But without additional context, blaming God isn't entirely fair.
1 John 5:19 says that "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." This at first also seems like it's God's fault for even allowing that. But there's a reason why God allows this.
That wicked challenged God's sovereignty, or his right to rule mankind. His claim is that mankind is better off without God and that he (the wicked one) is a better ruler. Now God could've just easily gotten rid of this rebellious angel, but he challenged God in front of other angels, so if he just does the rebel right then and there, it would make it look like God was afraid of being proven wrong and that challenge would still be in limbo, so to speak. It wouldn't really have answered if humankind is really better off without God.
Now with that said, God won't allow the wickedness to remain forever. He'll eventually one day say that's enough and the question of who really is fit to rule mankind will finally be answered. After that, God will remove the wicked one and then fix everything wrong with the earth, including undoing sickness and death.

I know all this may seem unbelievable, but that's why you need to build faith in God's promises found in the Bible. With that said, faith isn't just simply believing in whatever you hear. Real faith is based on solid evidence. If you really studied the Bible, and I don't mean just studying it with the goal of trying to prove it's wrong, but genuinely trying to understand its message, you can have that real faith in what God promises will come true.

Science says otherwise. Many people who know someone with this disease have prayed and claimed that their god is bigger. It’s not. Unless an incredible breakthrough occurs, she will die by the time she is 20. The only thing that can save her is science. Prayers will not change what is terminal.
